Maybe they'll put something on the site soon. Hopefully...it's been months!

I'd say late October - Mid November. December at the latest.

They have been working only for seven months on this game, I think they may show us something in the first quarter of 2010.
I would love to finally see some info though.

They are using the same engine as Fallout 3 so they don't need to build that. After pre-production they can more or less jump straight into putting the game together.

Also, we don't know if they've been working on it for longer. They could have started working on it earlier than it was announced.

Aliens RPG was canceled in march, and they share much of the same team including project director.
I hope that you are right though, it would be nice to see something.

Earliest indication of NV's pre-production:

is suddenly reading a lot about Las Vegas.

Also people from AP's dev team might get transferred to NV since AP's development is done except for a few Q&A testers working on the (small) bug queue, according to Chris Avellone.

I really hope they make the SPECIAL directly affect gameplay more. In fallout 3 charisma was basicallly useless, they could fix that if charisma determined how many followers you can have (a charisma of 6 divided by 2 = 3 followers) same with intelligence, it just affected your skills while having no direct affect on gameplay. maybe a higher intelligence could add more argument options to dialogue. And (correct if this is wrong) agility should affect your sound generated and you movement speed. there is some of these factors already applied in fallout 3 but not enough that a a low attribute is gonna change you gameplay pretty significantly

Its fun just knowing they are working on it. :)

I'm curious as to how fast their level designers have become with the GECK, and how robust the quest material will be.

I'm just VERY glad they are using the Fallout3 engine and the GECK to build it, as it adds alot of longevity to the game. As a modder, it gives me alot more time to finish my own work!

I wouldn't be so sure of that. They don't have much time and still have to work with the base FO3 game mechanics I'm betting. All I'm hoping for right now is a better story/dialogue and better lore "correctness" and additions. My blind hope, miracles exist wish would be for a total revamp of the mechanics and them moving away from the FPS combat that pretty much ruined the gameplay.

Better dialogues won't be possible as long as there's the 80-character limit.

Revamping mechanics & moving away from "FPS combat" won't be allowed as long as Bethesda's shadow is looming over the project.

I don't mind the FPS combat. Infact I favour it, even if people think it's buggy and doesn't work well. The exception is Zeta because it doesnt work so great in a linear game but for Fallout's sandbox game it's pretty good.

That is, if you conflate "better" with "longer." Personally, I think there's a lot of room for improvement in Bethesda's writing that could be done without a big change in the amount of dialogue.

Judging from their other projects, I don't think Obsidian would have any interest overhauling the combat even if Beth gave them free reign to do so. Their only original IP is an FPS-RPG.

But it could use a couple tweaks for the console gamers that don't have access to mods.

And that's the reason why fans of hard core roleplay games still game on computers. Consoles are great for many types of games, but not so great on some other types.

It would probably be better to repost the ideas over here as well (with credit where credit's due)

That's fine, but you must respect the huge number of us that Live for modding and don't play without them. I can understand that you don't like them, but in this forum, you'll have to live with us. :)

We don't bite anyway, we just mod the nuka-grenade before it goes off! ;)

What's nice is that by using the GECK and Fo3 engine, we should be able to mod NV once it comes out, but the rules on it's content may be very different based on Obsidian making it?

meh I have nothing against ya if you use mods, just the idea that theres content out there that I'm missing out on because I play on a 360 really pisses me off. I'm not exactly rolling in cash, so I cant afford a nice computer.

They are just mods, though. Honestly, you're not necessarily missing out on all that much. I can't really think of any absolute must-have mods that I absolutely couldn't play Fallout 3 with. I've actually taken a number of them out after awhile, or simply forget that they're even loaded. The very best ones just do subtle things, and I can't say I've really come across a ton of additional content that feels like it would have belonged in a DLC or anything. (That's not a rag against the skill of the modders - I just think there's something to be said for working in a team on a singular vision with a creative director to make sure everything looks like it "belongs" together. Kind of the same reason that I don't generally download third-party content for my Sims games - they might be of high quality, but they often seem to stand out from the rest of the content, which I find jarring.)

I generally buy games like F3 on my computer, and the modding capability is a part of that reason; but I certainly wouldn't say it's worth it buy a whole computer specifically for that one purpose.

Back to topic: For NV, I'm kind of hoping to see some sort of arena deathsport thingy. Something that you could bet on (since it's in Vegas, after all,) and of course join in on.

I could not dis-agree more with this assessment, you clearly have not played MMM, FWE, WMK, FOOK, Foes Reworked, Phalanx, etc. If you had and REALLY played with them, you would never say this.

The big mod kits (several mentioned above) actually make Radical changes to how the game plays, the monsters you see, the weapons they use, the tactics they use, the loot you find, etc, etc. About the ONLY thing that is the same are the quests content/dialogue. But try walking anywhere in the wasteland at night and meet your first band of night ghouls! The weapon mod kits are Awesome, allowing you to build custom weapons and even make ammo. The changes to followers and NPC combat are also Very profound. An NPC that charges you (vanilla) versus one that ducts back and find good cover before laying down sniper fire on out is such a Radical change and improvement in the level of challenge, that it barely resbemles the vanilla game.

I strongly recommend that those who have not used the big mod kits before and have a PC, should try them at depth. They Really Do make the game alot more fun and challenging, and I couldn't imagine playing vanilla Fallout 3 anymore. There isn't anything wrong with nu_clear_day's opinion, but I wanted to make it very clear that this opinion is definitely not common in the mods forums, and people should try the big mods and make their own judgements before believing what is said here.

Also back on topic, this is one aspect of New Vegas that I am very hopeful about - the ability to mod the NV content when it comes out. If it were purely a Bethesda decision, I would be confident that we are going to have permission to mod with NV content. But this is Obsidian, and they may have different rules. We can hope though! :)

Actually, since Bethesda/Zenimax is the publisher and all, I'd imagine they have the final say on pretty much everything - including modding support.
