Female Heavy Armor, what's up with the briastplate?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 1:48 am

Arggh! This seems to pop up in every conversation about girls and combat. That is a myth, they did not cut off a briast. That would be stupid and probably kill them.
Indeed. briasts do not get in the way of using a spear, sword or bow. And as you said, hacking one off would cause incredible physical trauma. It is not comparable to something like piercing your ears, nose, or other body parts, or even ritual scarification, that were often practiced by many societies.

If you look at all the sculptures and vase paintings the ancient Greeks made of Amazons, you will note that not one shows them single-briasted. So not even the ancient Greeks believed that story, and they are the ones who made it up!

I'll repeat two points that are being ignored.

Earth history is not Nirn history and vice versa. It is impossible to base any logical argument about armor styles and construction on Earth armor when designing Nirn armor (or vice versa). In other words, the limitations and abilities of one world's armor are not and will never be equal to the other world's. This is also true for Earth when considering different armors in different cultures/locations/periods of history.

Perhaps even more importantly, the perception of what is sixual or sixy and what is not is completely subjective. One person may think that an outfit is sixy, even scandalous, while the person wearing it never considered such an idea. Since we are talking about gaming and feminine sixuality, let's consider the difference in what is considered the most erotic part of the female body between America and Japan. In America, the female briasts are generally viewed as being highly sixual. This is not true for all cultures, of course, and is one reason why you have open briast feeding of babies in many cultures but not America. Meanwhile, the nape of a woman's neck is generally viewed as being highly erotic in Japanese culture. This is merely one example, but I think it is very safe to say that few Americans would say that the nape of a woman's neck is sixy or sixual.

@Kiitan:

As I have stated many times, Eshme's body mod and armor for Oblivion are what I prefer because I prefer elvish, nymph-like nature spirit characters and her design is very petite. You mention practical, but that is only your perception of what is practical and what is not. What is practical for a tall, husky Nordish woman is very impractical for a slight, petite Breton woman (and vice versa). Consider the problem that people have in fining clothing that fits when traveling to countries and cultures different from their native homeland. Having said that, the Elven armors for Eshme's body are quite practical and aesthetically pleasing. NOTE: I do not like the "hefty"body mods such as HGEC and others, including the new CBBE for Skyrim, because they simply do not fit my character types. That's one reason I stopped playing Skyrim for now after 300 hours anolyzing the game. My favorite body mod is Eshme'sand the Type 3 bodies from Fallout 3/NV because the form actually fits my character types.

Oh for the people on PC who this bothers there is this mod.

Yes that’s right a mod for female armours that doesn’t make them skimpy. :ohmy:
But they just swapped the meshes, they didn't redo the female armour so it doesn’t line up perfectly and you gone from briast plates that look a bit silly to having no shaping at all and fitting exactly the same as it does on a man.

Hmm... so why are they flatter than everyone I know in my area, even at highest "weight" settings?

Yes, Steel Plate armor exaggerates the features, but then again, it adds at least another inch in all directions just for the padding, and "rounds out" the form by bolting hemispheres to the chest rather than following the true shape of the underlying anatomy.

Uhhm.... so all the women you know are E+ cup? 100% weight slider is a very generous D-cup from the looks of it.

The steel plate also is one of the most notoriously badly rigged meshes IMO. The way the gauntlets and torso bend about is... very un-plate-like. For both gender versions.

Just look at the upside, folks... At least coverage = armor value, instead of bare skin = armor value. ;)

I know, but since lighthouse brought up Amazons I thought it was a relevant addition to the topic.
