I have a question: I am looking to make a character that mainly uses a one-handed weapon and a shield but sometimes goes to magic or a bow. Heavy armor. Which race would be best suited to these? I was thinking Nord, Orc, or Redguard, but which one?

All of them... But of the ones you listed, Orcs and Redguards have the better racial abilities.

Crap... my dunmer heavy armor mage set-up is ruined. Light armor and sneak? Really? Bleh I'm pissed they lost their one-handed bonus

Imperials actually look to be the best armored battle mage class, but I might just go Altmer now that I've seen the [censored] Dumner skill set. :sadvaultboy:

The initial skill boosts are irrelevant -- any race can do what you want.

Having said that your character sounds like an Orc.

I was originally planning to play a Redguard thief/assassin/ranger type character. This list hasn't made me change my mind.

BUT: I wonder how useful the 10x faster stamina regeneration ability will be, if one is already going to focus on Alchemy? Will this ability become much less useful later in the game, as one becomes able to make much more powerful stamina regeneration potions?

When are they going to realize that once a day powers svck...

I feel bad for the Redguards. Unless the enemy's are going to use poison's a lot... Also feel bad for the Kajhits because there two powers are utterly useless really.

So I guess the Breton 25% constant magicka resistance, 50% daily spell absorption, and magic skill bonuses don't count do they?

For being a better mage? No, it doesn't help. They make them better at fighting mages, but not better at being mages. And besides with 50 magicka you can just cast resistance to magic. Personally I think bretons are one of the worst races this time around, they have a very niche role good against magic. But in the last 2 games it was maybe one in 5 at the end game enemies that were magic oriented most of the game it was closer to 1 in 20, so 2 abilities focused on resisting it is not that awesome IMO and near the end game it it is easy enough to get yourself geared up against magic so it becomes irrelevant. And that is even assuming you need it instead of just easily side stepping almost all magical attacks. Things that focus on improving what you dish out are just superior.

As for the skill bonuses it helps in the beginning but at the end you have all 100's so it isn't that big of a deal.

If all races were like this it would be one thing, but they aren't. It is okay to have all races be balanced and samey, it is okay to go for unique races and accept that balance wont be great it is a bit lame to go for one and then screw it up on 1 race. If they had followed their formula Altmer would have increased magicka regen power and a resistance with maybe some other small bennie.

They broke formula and the Altmer basically curb stomps every other race for almost every role accept those that totally forgo the use of magic. Overall the races work out and fit their balanced formula, which is good. The Altmer stand out in that they aren't balanced.

A lot of those bonuses dont look right. Redguards have a Destruction bonus? Where the hell did that come from. I also find it baffling that Imperials dont get a Speech bonus.
yeah but I like it. I always wanted my Redguards to be a bit better in magic and I was planing on playing a battle mage Redguard too. Sword in one hand with a spell in the other. : ) Luv it

Well, Kajhiit having Night Eye for only 60 sec a day is very disappointing. Them not needing weapons early on - I dunno. Does HtH increase any skill? It seems to me that unless it does, even if HtH does more damage to start with, it would still be better to use weapons. We'll see how entertaining it would be to use brawling to gain iformation, but I kinda wanted my thief to be a suave talker.

Argonians, Bretons, Orcs, and Altmer have pretty nice abilities, though. Maybe Altmer abilities will be superseded by enchantment eventually - but they'll certainly make starting as a pure mage much more pleasant. Also, I noticed that all the enchantment perks refer to _armor_ or weapons. So, it is possible that an unarmored pure mage can't look forward to big upgrades via enchantment. Anyway, it would be a long way till there. Ditto with alchemy.

As for everybody else - difficult to say yet, much depends on implementation. Like, will Bosmer "Command Animal" apply to all animals, including the highest level ones? Then it could be very much worth it.
Will there be enough use for money for Imperial Luck ability to be of any real advantage? Will Voice of the Emperor really have a good application?
A majority of enemies will probably have Frost attacks (like in MW fire attacks were the most common), so Nords will probably be OK because of resistance alone.
Dunmer 8 damage per sec fire aura doesn't sound like much, frankly, because I can't see most fights going on for long enough for damage accumulation. And it is no Diablo either, with huge masses of attackers. But fire resistance ought to be worth something, sure.
Redguard Adrenaline Rush looks like an invitation to go to town with Power attacks, sprint attacks, bashes and other stuff that uses a lot of stamina. Still, Berserk is better, IMHO. Whether poison resistance will make up for that - again, we'll have to watch and see.

Anyway, big thanks to folks who posted the information! I, for one, have been waiting for it for the longest time ;).

I'll enjoy playing Imperial in Skyrim, well, I always do enjoy it, but this time it feels more exciting to be an outsider and hated.

In your opinion. Berserker is better for bosses imo.

60 seconds of extra magicka regen doesn't stack up to double damage and taking half damage.

Yeah, but +50 to Magicka is pretty massive.
