Definitely been having the same problem all day long. svcks because I took the day off work to play and haven't been able to at all. Would be nice to know if this is being worked on at all and when a foreseeable patch would be coming.

I think this is the culprit, my video card should be spinning up and heating my room, but it acts like its idling.

Same issue here.

Doesn't matter what my settings are, or what I put in the options, it constantly stutters on me to the point where I can't even fight because the game is too busy freezing and stuttering.

Having the same problem as others. All the FPS problems seem to be human NPC related. Animals and whatnot don't seem to get it slowed down at all. The first large firefight you're in (no spoilers) made my computer drop from about 40-50fps to about 4. Ridiculous. I'm so angry that I pre-ordered this game. Won't be making that mistake again. Specifically avoided pirating this game due to how much I enjoyed the first one. Upset that for my brand loyalty, I was sold a lemon. Joke is on me I guess.

Same problem as everyone else. Downloaded the latest driver for my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 but issue remains. Now the wait for a patch begins....

This will help whatever poor saps who are trying to fix the problems we're having. Posting a few generic things about your system isn't enough. I'm as angry as anybody else but it takes all of 25 seconds to do that. See the sticky for details if you don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm really reaching here, as I didn't spend a lot of time tweaking FO3's ini, but does anyone know what, specifically, "bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen=1" does? Given that it defaults to on in New Vegas (but not, I think, in FO3), and given that one of the possible culprits is facial animations (see earlier reports about it only being an issue with NPCs facing the player), it's worth a look. I'd try the game with it toggled off, but I can't for the life of me figure out which INI files I can change and have their settings not get reset.

I'm also curious if upping the number of Havoc threads from the default of 1 would help.

If all these problems are on a Windows 7 OS, logic states that may be part of the problem.

That said, I hope the people in this thread get it working. It's a rather fun game.

To all the people with the problem, do you have Windows XP? Or Windows 7 only?

As far as I know, just a few people who play a game visit the forums (compared with the total of players who bought the game... is just a few [don't flame me if I'm wrong, just look my first words of this post])... believe me or not there are people who just prefer to play the game as it is or just sit and wait a patch rather than complain on the forum, for example, 30 of my gamer friends only 1 frequent forums of games he play.

In other words... it's possible that there is much more than 10,000 players with the same problem, but looking for a fix somewhere else or just waiting for the patch as I said

Okay, this is likely to get lost in the post storm going on here, but everyone needs to try this right now:


Open the console (~) and type:
toggleEmotions

This immediately bought me 20 fps in the area where I was getting the worst slowdown, from 24 fps to 44, according to FRAPS.

I need to do some testing to see how badly this impacts the facial performances of the characters. Did this function exist in F3? If not, does that mean they've implemented some new code for facial emotion displays and it's not been optimized correctly or somehow left in a debug mode? I'm going to dig around in the ini files and see if there are any variables relating to this funcitonality. It's also possible I've just stumbled onto some unrelated framerate issue, so I want people to test this. If this post gets lost I'll start a new thread, as inappropriate as that may be.

I'm having the exact same problems and not just around the NPCs like some are saying. Everywhere! I am so pissed I gotta deal with this...again! FO3 had the same crap.
