Anyone else think,

Spoiler
That Coldhands is ever Eddard Stark or Benjy Stark
This isn't possible..
Spoiler
Eddard has just died and his BONES are being transported, so how could his body be beyond the wall..
Benjen has just went missing, presumed dead, Leaf tells Bran that Coldhands has been dead for a long time and going by her age a long time isn't going to be a year or two.

She's a sixteen(?) year-old, that's understandable. It's not like the other teen ruler protagonists* in the series haven't done stupid things. I like that she's a flesh-and-blood girl with urges and moments of childishness and not some alabaster ideal queen.

*
Spoiler
thinking of Robb and Jon, are there others?
Joffery for one, Viserys for another - but they're not protagonists they just do stupid things :P

While I understand the basic concept of what Varys means, how exactly does he find the idea of Stannis Baratheon being just a 'terrifying man'? Is it because he does what is lawful regardless?
"There is no creature half so terrifying as a truly just man"
He is found terrifying because he is incorruptible, he does not sway to the tears of women or the begging of men. What is treason is punished, what is his duty he will fulfill. He believes in the laws of the land and does not bent them or break them to suit his needs, he's pretty much an iron rod whereas the other characters are http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRETHU57r_3cY8CEsmp0UNLjKoqbdQzdsgiFT3AunURp6EtqOhH.

There will come a day after a long summer when the stars bleed and the cold breath of darkness falls heavy on the world. In this dread hour a warrior shall draw from the fire a burning sword. And that sword shall be Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes, and he who clasps it shall be Azor Ahai come again, and the darkness shall flee before him."

Is it me or does Joffrey have an IQ of like 80? He doesn't even know when he's being made a mockery of. Other times he just assumes he is. That plus he doesn't know the extent of his power outside of KL.

Also, a question about GoT, in particular, by Varys:

While I understand the basic concept of what Varys means, how exactly does he find the idea of Stannis Baratheon being just a 'terrifying man'? Is it because he does what is lawful regardless?

Because Stannis believes in rigid law, but not mercy. No forgiveness, no redemption, just retribution. Davos saved his life and he cut off the tips of his fingers for being a smuggler. I would be terrified of a man like that.

Stannis believes in law alright, but he sees himself as rightful heir (he is by rights after Robert's death). But if he was such a law abider than he would bow to Joffrey. But no, everyone a usurper to the "rightful" king or queen (when I say this I mean all of the "five kings" think everyone except themselves are usurpers).

Only Stannis and Joffrey thought of the others as usurpers. The others didn't think of themselves as the rightful rulers, just better qualified for the job. ;)

Dany does. But other than her you're right. Dany visualizes Westeros in her own little way.

Guys, spoiler tags for people who may not be on Clash of Kings yet....

Also:
Spoiler
Just got to the chapter where Catelyn is trying to get the Baratheons to form an alliance, wow, Renly is a dikeweasel. Stannis is blunt and honest, Renly is just this puffed up spoiled craven. He can boast he's x,y, and z, but he's obviously fearful to do anything himself.

Spoiler
I'm pretty sure it's Benjen. How could CHands possibly be Ned?

Are you guy's talking about...

Spoiler

The Lord of Bones that the wildlings who captured Jon Snow kept speaking of? My first guess is that it's going to be Jon's uncle Benjen. Looks like I'm not alone on that feeling either. Good to know because all my predictions for TV shows usually prove wrong.

He was spoiled in his upbringing and it is said that he was an idiot, not one but his mother pretends he's anything but mad.

Stannis believes in law alright, but he sees himself as rightful heir (he is by rights after Robert's death). But if he was such a law abider than he would bow to Joffrey.
Abiding by law he would kill Joff, as Joff is the usurper and a creature of incist. By rights of succession Stannis is king so it is right of him to raise his army against Joff.

“Robert was the true steel. Stannis is pure iron, black and hard and strong, yes, but brittle, the way iron gets. He’ll break before he bends. And Renly, that one, he’s copper, bright and shiny, pretty to look at but not worth all that much at the end of the day."

I think everyone here agrees with that, so do I.

But if you want to be technical Joffrey is the king even if heoriginally isn't the rightful one. So Stannis should obey the law of the current monarch. My point is that law is very subjective.

Well, I renewed my Movie Central/HBO subscription, at 50% off for 6 months ($9 rather than $18) and am watching season 2 from the beginning (via Video on Demand) to refresh myself for Sunday. :) (I'd watch season 1.....but they don't offer it through VOD. )

The wait is almost unbearable. *vibrates with excitement*

Time to do a little nitpicking about the title of a certain episode...

Spoiler
Episode 9 "The Rains of Castamere". Honestly I think this title would've fit the Blackwater episode best. A better episode title in my opinion would've been "The Crossing". The titles of the past 2 seasons' penultimate episodes have been locations. They should've kept it this way.

Why? Sure, it was a victory for the Lannisters, but they were saved by Renly's supporters. "The Rains of Castamere" is all about what happens when you betray the Lannisters. I'm not sure I see the thematic connection.

Well, Robb didn't really betray the Lannisters by not marrying the Frey girl. He betrayed the Freys.
