Girls and Skyrim

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 6:55 pm

I'm a girl, I'm more of a gamer, yet no one really believes me when I say I just played Skyrim for seven hours straight (I mean, how could you not?). And I know I'm not the only girl who is also a gamer that plays Skyrim. Also, thank you so much Bethesda for letting us choose to be male or female! It's a pretty awesome feeling not having to be a dude character again. There need to be more games where the lead is a chick (Portal, Metroid) because, and this should be common knowledge by now, chicks play games. And some of those chicks--just like their dude counterparts--are terrible, they're noobs. But others who, like myself, have been playing since they were wee (in my case SEVEN years old) are absolutely amazing--again like their male counterparts that have been playing since they were wee. Just sayin'.

Almost every RPG lets you choose male or female. There are exponentially more guys that play video games than girls, and more male designers and developers than females-- so naturally more linear story driven games will feature a male lead.

Hi and welcome to the forums! Yes, my wife is a gamer too, and ES is cool in letting you be whatever six you want to play as.

Did you get your Fishy Stick yet?

You want the honour?

But I have not ever thought there were no gamer girls or anything. That thought is just rediculous.
But as someone said, the majority of both gamers and develpoers are male.

Well its not a big deal about being a girl and a gamer.
My girlfriend is a gamer and plays Gears of war, halo and skyrim.
The year is 2012 :) of course both males and females are playing video games x)

Cool story sis.
On topic, yes, RPGs tend to be more gender neutral by design.

As far as I know there are no specific genes in the Y chromosome that makes men more able to play video games. Past absence of girl gamers was a cultural thing, now it's more a rule than exception to have a considerable female portion of gaming community.

I believe you. I am a girl gamer, and spent about 10 hours playing Skyrim yesterday! :D I did take the occasional break to eat a sandwich, watch an X-Files dvd, and read the forums, though.

I also echo your feelings about being able to play a female character in a game. I have been computer gaming since Wolfenstien 3D and the original Doom, and have grown so tired of being locked into a sausage that I cannot take it anymore. I will not even consider buying a game anymore unless it gives an option of playing a female character.

I'm a girl too. I was never much of a gamer, until I met Skyrim. Thank you, Bethesta. :)

Skyrim is an awesome game and it's not surprising at all that anyone, regardless of gender, would spend upwards of 7 hours playing it. Glad to hear all the stories of people who love TES.

I've known lots of girl gamers-- rather, girls who call themselves gamers. Mostly she played Super Mario 3 on her brother's Super Nintendo from time to time, and drops in on video games discussions based her vague familiarity with certain games. Playing an FPS usually meant looking straight up at the sky and spinning. This is just from my own observations

I noticed most females side with RPG's and MMO's.

Genuine question - why do alot of female gamers feel the need to announce their gender when using internet forums for the first time?

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but i have never ever felt the need to announce my gender to anyone. And people wonder why so many females attract attention from the letches that frequent most popular forums. Seriously, be sure to make another 6 or 7 "Look at me" type threads as it can only help you blend into the crowd further.

Tried to get my ex gf into fps,it consisted of 15 minutes of screaming "whos shooting me" "how do i duck" "why won't this ##### door open" "f who killed me" "oh its ok i'm alive again"

Those 15 minutes are going to stay with me for life i think...she was awesome at street fighter though.

Was there any point to this thread except flaunt about the fact that you're female?

Sorry if I come over as particularly harsh, I've had my fair share of attention[censored]s on the internet who use their female status to garner "fame" and even items & rank in some games.

Agreed...

Your a girl gamer? Ok... So am i, and have been since i was 5, but i don't make threads to draw attension to me. I don't mean to sound rude, but... It's just silly... Who cares, you know? Are you insecure about being a girl gamer or something?

Seven hours in one sitting only? Lightweight.

I spent a solid 17 hours with my eyes glued to the monitor and my underpants glued to the chair just playing skyrim, wife was not happy about it though.
My daughter is also a gamer & has been playing RPG's & similar games for years now, None of these to my mind denied the experience to a female character & she was able to enjoy playing as her own gender.

I am a girl. I am a gamer. I have two copies of Skyrim and have spent I don't know how many hours but more than is healthy on this game so far. I regret nothing.

My main PC and main console characters are both guys, but I do appreciate the option to choose character gender. I have two girls planned out already. xD

My sis plays as a male bosmer. (same syndrome as the poster above ^).

Anyways, it's common knowledge there's no girls on the interwebs. Nice try though.
