I'm glad they nerfed Smithing..

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 9:23 pm

Who else agrees with me? So now all of you 'cheaters' can't just spam Iron Daggers to 100.

1) as mentioned, not "nerfed", but improved. (Brought into parity with Alchemy - items worth more give more progess)

2) "cheaters"? While some people may have been exploiting the ability to buy materials from vendors and then regenerate them with "wait", that is in no way cheating - they didn't alter the program, hack it, etc. They used the game mechanics as provided. (In a boring, tedious, and powergamey way )

They haven't nerfed it, they fixed it.
This is the way I feel.
Now it levels like the other crafting skills.

But who cares if a person is using something to their advantage in a single-player game?
So much this. While I like what they did with it in the patch, (it's more realistic) it doesn't effect how I utilize smithing in the slightest.

I like the change because it makes sense, but I couldn't care less how others play their game.

Much as i hate myself for saying this, a small part of me(the part that reads the skyrim is to easy so it svcks threads) wishes they'd used a warcraft like crafting system with a separate crafting level and a mandatory player level for certain perks in it. Don't hit me :bolt:

Who else agrees with me? So now all of you 'cheaters' can't just spam Iron Daggers to 100. If you want to be good in Smithing.. you have to actually BE GOOD at Smithing.

Way it should've been from the start honestly. I'm finding myself using literally whatever I come across (loot). I haven't even improved my Armor rating by Smithing, or my Weapons really for that matter. I've mostly been using an Elven Sword/Bow until I came across a Glass Bow/Glass Sword now and am using those (non-improved).

Really does change the way you play. But now Iron's almost obsolete because of it, IMO.

What do you guys/gals think? Do you like/dislike the nerf?

Glad?
Possibly, but certainly not for the same reasons you are.

I dont care about 'cheaters'.
It is their single player game.
I am not going to get all worked up because I did it 'legit' and someone else did it in five minutes, in a single player game.

I am not going to have schadenfreude because people now have to go out of their way to make Dwemer bows (hah!).

Let people play the game as they like.
I have an amulet that gives me 168% resistance to fire, do you hate me for it?

That being said, I do like the new changes to smithing.
They are logical and it should indeed have been a sliding scale all along, as is certainly the case for magic skills, where higher level spells get you more xp.
Huzah for mechanics that make more sense!

But to go 'ner-ner-ner', no, no Im afraid I just do not see that.

Every game has "min/maxers". These are the people that figure out how to get the most bang for the buck. A quick Google search will give you a hundred different ways to cap a skill. 1300 Iron daggers to max Smithing? Guess what? Someone sat and counted.

In a few days, someone will have a formula to max in the fastest way and the cheapest way (not the same, typically). This is what people do. They try to take tedious tasks and complete them (or achieve their desired results) in the fastest, most efficient way. This isn't cheating, it's dealing with crap jobs the best way possible. Unless you're a serious OCD personality, you do the same thing in real life.

Do you honestly think making multiple combines requiring multiple button pushes is "cheating"? It's called "grinding". It's how you get past the time sinks built in to the game so you can proceed to the content you want. Been around as long as RPGs themselves. I never played Ultima, but I did play Everquest for YEARS. From prior to Kunark until after Prophecy of Ro (about 6 years). Min/maxers, grinders and powergamers were part of the game. They always will be. At least this is a single player game so, no harm, no foul.

More realism the better. That's what makes a good role-playing experience.

The only change was made in progression... not in ability. The change was in no way a nerf. They made it level differently, to be more in line with the other crafting skills. It has in no way become weaker.

This. Notice in Alchemy making restore health, stamina, magicka potions give next to nothing in the way of experience. But making Fortify One-handed or Invisibility gives greater experience toward leveling the skill. Now iron daggers are the restore health of smithing and dwarven, orcish, glass, etc... are like the two or three effect potions that give more xp and more value in the end product.

I like how they improved smithing.

Yes, because all these "cheaters" affected you so much. It was a bad move by Bethesda. They shouldn't have been listening to the idiots ramble on about smithing. Did they patch Oblivion when you could just stand there and cast spells to level up? No, they didn't. It's your choice to abuse something like that. Maybe they should nerf people just letting themselves get hit by mudcrabs to level their armor up next, huh?

I like the way it is now, but everyone who used to spam Iron Daggers will probably continue to do so, they'll just need to spam more of them. As for me, I'll keep smithing the way I always have: smith items to enchant and sell and make profit !

I do. And it's not even just the cheating part, on my current play which i started three months ago, i have used smiting a lot using pelts and loot to make some decent money.
Before the patch, my smithing skill was already at 100 and that was without any sort of power leveling cheat.

So, after the patch, i went for the console and reset my smiting skill to 50. It's been going much slower now and i like it that way.

It is not nerfed. Not really. The only thing that hs changed is that people are going to grind other items, like Iron Armor instead of Iron Dagger.

I hated crafting 500 iron daggers to begin with.

This just makes it even worse.

SO BORING! Yet it's hard to survive without enchanting or smithing

This
If someone wants to spam Smithing up to 100 it will be more expensive but then thay will have a use for the money they got from selling useless potions whilst spamming Alchemy up to 100

Um, you realize that this is a single player game and they can just uninstall the patch, right? That's what I do. I don't boost Smithing like all those "cheaters" out there but when I need to raise my Smithing which is about once every ten levels I uninstall that patch and forge a bunch of Iron Daggers. My Smithing reaches 100 at about Lv. 45, usually.

So you're saying that because I want to experience the same content because I paid the same amount as everyone else I can't if I don't like the one option. The elitest attitude of some people is unbelievably pathetic. It's like an MMO people whine because they aren't a unique snowflake when they waste 100s of hrs more than the next person. People actually thinking it's a good idea to force everyone spend additional time leveling up an imaginary crafting skill in single player game is quite possibly the most moronic and pathetic thing I've ever heard.

This is absolutely stupid of Bethesda. Who the hell cares if I level up smithing quickly. Seriously if you don't like how easy it is to level smithing then you spend all your time crafting only jewelry to level. It's absolutely ludacris to nerf a single player game. Especially this late in release cycle. I've already maxed crafts on characters but now if I want to max them again I have to spend more time than originally. Stupid stupid nonsensicle decision by Bethesda. CHANGE IT BACK or at the very least improve the base values on everything making cheap stuff the base of what the original was. I can't even believe this BS because anyone on PC can just max out any skill at any time if they are starting a new character so this only screws over console players. There's no reason I can think that Bethesda put this in other than whiney little brats on the forums were complaining smithing wasn't wasting enough of their time and it kept reminding them they were stuck living in their Mom's basemant.

I like it, I dont want my smithing to shoot up super fast since I like to craft iron daggers just to enchant and sell for many septims.
I've not tested anything but I hope that crafting the most expensive items now gives more experience than it did before the patch, its only fair that it works both ways.

Let the cheaters cheat if they want to. I bought the game so I should be able to do whatever the [censored] I want to do with it. It's mine after all.

And yes, I've cheated on one of my characters.

What I thought was stupid is that smithing leveled 50 times faster than the other crafting skills. It actually works as it should now...higher value items give a bigger boost to leveling the skill. Don't make daggers, make armor.

I know it is a single player game, but if one-handed leveld up everytime you hit something once but 2-handed too 500 hits to level it up one point would you think "it's a single player game, who cares"? The crafting skills should have leveled similarly to eachother. Bethesda fixed it now so that it does.

But that's just my opinion.
