I'm glad they nerfed Smithing..

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 7:35 pm

Who else agrees with me? So now all of you 'cheaters' can't just spam Iron Daggers to 100. If you want to be good in Smithing.. you have to actually BE GOOD at Smithing.

Way it should've been from the start honestly. I'm finding myself using literally whatever I come across (loot). I haven't even improved my Armor rating by Smithing, or my Weapons really for that matter. I've mostly been using an Elven Sword/Bow until I came across a Glass Bow/Glass Sword now and am using those (non-improved).

Really does change the way you play. But now Iron's almost obsolete because of it, IMO.

What do you guys/gals think? Do you like/dislike the nerf?

But who cares if a person is using something to their advantage in a single-player game?

I agree with Gheart. it's like saying playing on Novice is cheating, if someone wants to play that way so be it. However I agree only to the extent of smithing being more difficult to level. It insures I will create a character that will focus on that next playthrough.

I agree with OP. Makes the game more balanced for ME... I don’t care what others do in SP, but I am glad they balanced this skill a bit more than it was...

Now it is balanced with the other crafting skills. All of the skills are exploitable if you have the patience.

It wasn't cheating how can you cheat in a SP anyway ?. That said I am glad that they nerfed it as it will stop me going the easy route and getting legendry ebony armour for a low level character.

Lol it's taking on the worries of another individual when you yourself have enough worries as it is. Would you carry someones backup when you can barely carry your own? And for how long do you relize it was a bad idea to carry the other persons? These are just metaphors.

How off topic am I, but I was just exaggerating the first paragraph.

I am seriously laughing at the hypocrites that care about the Smithing nerf...

-They hate how the game gets too boring for them

-They don't take into account for ONE second that it may have been their fault. How? WHO KNOWS!?!??!?!!?!?!?!?!!??!?!?!?!? <--- Obvious.

So let's take a step back. If you don't mind using an exploit in single-player, where it won't affect anyone, then go ahead. If you don't think it affects YOU, then you are gravely mistaken.

you have to actually BE GOOD at Smithing.

 Having to be "good" at a crafting skill that takes no skill.

the only way to "fix" smithing is to remove it as a skill that benefits with p erks. This on one hand will make unique weapons and daedric artifacts worth using over anyones godly weapons. Or another fix would be to make improved weapons crafted by blacksmiths able for purchase or to be found, while daedric artifacts just have naturally more damage then these crafted weapons. same goes with armor.

The only change was made in progression... not in ability. The change was in no way a nerf. They made it level differently, to be more in line with the other crafting skills. It has in no way become weaker.

I don’t care what other people do in their games, but I’m happy to have Smithing slow down in mine. I hated leveling up just from playing around with wolf pelts. I like the new way better.

My favorite armor is iron, though, so I won’t have to wait longer to get it. I imagine I would feel differently if I wanted the highest rated armor types.

I never seen it as a "cheat". It doesn't matter how fast you get there. You are leveling as you do it anyway. If not 435 daggers, it will be something else. Players will still grind/train a character to develop skills regardless. So what if takes 45 min instead of 5?

This isn't what I was expecting when I read that they nerfed smithing. Yes, gaining experience according to how awesome of a weapon you made is fine.

because it is bethesda's game and they have the right to authorial control. ultimately it's their brand on the line, and what they deem as balanced within the scope of gameplay says as much about their brand as any one specific gameplay mechanic or feature. we can play it or mod it however we choose, but ultimately, it is their game. i for one wholeheartedly respect the fact that they care enough. it's a rare quality.

They put duct tape on it.

They didn't actually re-weld it.

Um from my understanding nothing is stopping the players from even now on the latest patch to spam daggers to gain levels, the only thing s that higher tier items contribute more to the skill/level

Good point imo.

For me personally it's just about having a sense of a achievement.A lot of people wont care either way but i'd rather feel like i get something out of putting a bit of effort into doing it.I always tried to make it a bit more interesting by only crafting full sets and using only what i found in the game world so any changes dont have as bigger impact on me but it's nice to see Beth reacting to what they see as an imbalance.

a sense of a achievement.

Unfortunately Smithing is the crafting skill that has the least of this because there is no actual work, along with a very small "give and take," involved.

That can be true when it's time to fly for the weekend, I will admit.

But all they did, apparently, was make it so that it costs 50 Iron Daggers to hit level 2 instead of 15.
