Has Bethesda taken too much flack?

Post » Tue Aug 26, 2008 2:35 pm

I think that some people should remember that Obsidian made the game. Bethesda is getting way too much flack, they're caught in the middle and I wouldn't be surprised if they're as annoyed with Obsidian as a lot of people tend to be with Bethesda.

Will Bethesda be intersted in working with Obsidian again?

Honestly, not excusing poor workmanship, but bugs in a big game are to be expected. They are frustrating at times, but honestly, I'm greatful for the work Devs did, they should have pushed back release, but its still a great game.

I always check my subcontractors work because ultimately I am responsible for the end product, not only is my name involved my reputation as well is attached to the quality of the work.
So Bethesda is just as responsible as Obsidian for New Vegas

Bethesda laid the foundation, which is responsible for many, if not most, of the bugs. The engine just svcks. Obsidian has nothing to do with that.

From what I can tell Obsidian have made some good games in the past, notably KOTOR 2, which I've heard good things about and if Obsidian were having problems, would they really have let Bethesda know the full story, especially if they were under preasure to get it out for the release date?

Yes, i'm sure Bethesda is very annoyed that New Vegas has managed to make $300+ million in profit.

Bad Obsidian! Bad dog!

KOTOR 2 was notably buggy at release.

So what about alpha protocal ? KoToR2 ?

Personally bethesda takes some faults as they laid the the foundation, but that dosent mean obsidian is immune from criticism and its all beths fault.

I havent had too many bugs, and would like to thank Obsicdian and Bethesda for making an amazing game.

There will always be people complaining.
Some complaints are legitimate but sometimes poorly expressed.
Some simply love to complain, and some are only happy when they can flame something.

This is an issue that can be pretty bad on internet forums.

The people whining about something are unfortunately those that are the loudest.

Overall I think both Beth and Obsidian know that there are a lot of people (and I guess its the majority) that liked FO3 and/or FONV.

Bethesda has a reputation for being cheap and clinging to outdated technology, and putting out bug riddled games. That's undeniable truth, whether or not they get flak, they won't change their ways until they... change their ways.

in the end they made their piles of money and thats all that matters to them..the next game they put out will be in the exact same shape if they think they can get away with it and make just as much money..i still dont understand this attitude that some ppl have that it was acceptable for this game to be released in the shape it was..i think it hurts the gaming community as a whole when developers and publishers alike are given a pass for shoddy work being released like this onto an unsuspecting and trusting gaming community...

Oh really, when I start the game I get a big intro screen which has the word 'Obsidian' taking up the whole monitor space. This is on PC, do consoles not have this then?

Yeah, Obsidian does get that one slide that I nearly always skip past. Can't seem to skip past the Bethesda title slide.

If you actually look, Beth are the ones that did all the QA, and they produced it. So they are the ones in charge of Time tables and bug fixing. So any "released too early" and "too many bugs" are on them.

Because it was rushed. The game barely got tested and there was enough cut content to make a full scale expansion. So take it up with LucasArts.

Returning to the topic, my opinion is that the problem lies with Gamebryo. So you can see where I'm going with this...

I say they've taken too little. It's time we fired enough flak to bring it down like a B17 over Berlin!

Seriously though. What flak is Bethesda taking? I've only seen a small group of people on the forums railing on Bethesda and Obsidian...

Isn t LucasArts the one who forced Obsidian to rush the game?
