Hipster Ponies Thread #-1

I think that Angus and Julia Stone are Hipster music, but it may be too mainstream. I dunno.

I've got a humdinger - The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and their song "Say no to Love". Pure hipster twee.

There's a mistake, though. Hipsters don't dance, they more or less just convulse.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKfwSFI8LhQ OG why do I know so much about hipster stuff arghyaaai am I a hipster? X( X)

Actually I love hipsters. If you have hipster friends, like I do, then you're hip by association but don't have to put all the effort in that it would actually require to be "authentically" hipster.

I'm a hipster because everyone else on campus is a hipster but I'm not.

:bonk:

Anyway, does http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyi7F1yrVTc count as hipster?

I think of contemporary hipster music as 80s new wave revival, meets a hodge podge of other Instruments. Like Ra Ra Riot, or something. Or anybody that tries to sound like Joy Division.

Mike, can I just let it be known, on an official basis, how much I [censored] love you?

Point And Shoot is better

P.S http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcBouB2Lesk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8oM_-K9rXY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7UjoQrnimk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko8SDv0CsiM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfpLlB6egbQ

Went off The King Blues when Itch forced Fruitbag and a few others out the band. That was [censored] low. I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16rlNyaoQEo.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7tqGZv3KlI
Massively underrated band. Jesse didn't get half the attention Matt and Tim did after Op Ivy split up. Last Wave Rockers is an awesome album.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQIaOBQF7uE (yum)
For all the CR7 songs are amusing, I just can't stand Stza. Guy's an idiot. That said, Two Cups of Tea by Star [censored] Hipsters is a personal favourite of mine.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5fhuA-oiZ8
Can't wait for their new album. Likewise with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTRBjxBmUCY.

Speaking of concerts, going to two ska concerts this month! One on the 15th, headliner is Llama Tsunami and all the other bands have pretty awesome names, too. Soooo pumped. Trying to drag people along with me, but I still have empty seats in my car. Lame!
Only thing I've got lined up is Dropkick Murphys next month

[...]
Dude, where the actual [censored] have you been?

haha.. I think he's hilarious. Gonna throw some Stars on now thanks to this post :headbang:

I don't have any idea what makes something hipster, but here's a massively underrated and pretty underground black metal band that deserves more respect. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3yi0jxET9U

The 60s are so 1980. We should revive 40s and 50s slang.

Sick. I am sick. Much innuendo in most of these.

"Cat's meow" is really quaint and adorable, though. Twee, even. If somebody used it IRL I'd just have to hug them.

On the basis that The Decemberists are hipster then:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEZ3lSurNCI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEmy2DBaeTc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz7wKhVa_VE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5w8dy-MPis
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOc1mn-4EzE

Edit: To continue the Neutral Milk Hotel discussion, I was introduced to it as the pinnacle of hipster music and while I don't really agree with that it is some really good music. It's more artistic and unconvential than most music I listen too, so I really enjoy it.
I quite enjoy The Decemberists. I got to see them in concert last summer for free. (The arts council where I live puts on free concerts every Thursday all summer long- it's fantastic). Didn't realize how old they all were until I saw them there though..

Let me flip through my iTunes real quick and see what "hipster" music I can pull up..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C81SyunWMAQ%5DJosh Josh Ritter- Good Man
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcBZb2Kr_yk%5DImogen Imogen Heap- Goodnight and Go
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQvnXM1hVnI%5DHey Hey Marseilles- Cigarettes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzORRh6lzg4%5DBeirut- Beirut- East Harlem

I've got a bunch more, but it looks like there's a pick-up hacky-sack game rolling up at the starbucks across the street.. so... gotta go.

They're very hit or miss for me. I love some of their songs, others are just annoying.

Since when were they considered Hipster? I've never heard anyone call them Hipster. They're not Hipster.

Guess you think you're pretty hip for not reading the OP.

Is Vampire Weekend still a hipster band, or are they mainstream now? What about Drive by Truckers? Anyway those are my suggestions.
