Boston, Greatful Dead and Hey Ocean!

Atleast at my school.
I'm literally the only person who knows these bands at my school.

I liked hey ocean, before MLP!

No, I didn't.

I'm not as cool as you all, but Ihttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abkIjdT0uTk

Edit - That drugstore cowboy bumped off the broad 'cuz she was a flat tire. She had some gams that gave me the heebie-jeebies though!

I'm a hipster because everyone else on campus is a hipster but I'm not.

:bonk:

Anyway, does http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyi7F1yrVTc count as hipster?

Guess you think you're pretty hip for not reading the OP.

I still wouldn't define them as a Hipster band, when compared to other bands. Regardless of their work in Ska, Leftover Crack has never been more than a band for Ska Punks, and other Punks listen to. If they ever were Hipster, the time was short and has long since passed. And even then, they wouldn't have been as big of a Hipster named band, as others that have been listed.

Yeah, how the hell are a grunge band hipster?

Grunge has always been a precursor to the Hipster of today.

A lot of the stuff in here is really good :) But since when is ska hipster music? Meh, your country is weird...

Anyway, since you banned rap and metal, I'm gonna use this thread to only talk about OFWGKTA and Nachtmystium. I reject your hipsterism and substitute my own.

Oh and http://sharkstooktherest.bandcamp.com/album/grounds-for-hearts-to-swell, because they're way underrated and some of the people in this thread might like them. I'm not going to say who, or describe them to you, though... Genres are too mainstream, just listen to it.

Dude, where the actual [censored] have you been?
Partly avoiding the forums for the reason that I haven't played Skyrim and don't intend to until the summer so I don't want any spoilers. Partly because I got too lazy to post and then just ended up reading which eventually ended up with me not even visiting. Partly because I've been busy being a real student (I'm a whole 2nd year now!) and trying to maintain grades with a lifestyle that had any representation of last year (essentially copious beer and fifa) is difficult without internet forums, let alone with them. I actually checked because I was bored when I was procrastinating for my exams the other day...

The previously mentioned Vampire Weekend are good. White Sky and Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa are a couple of my favourites. Lot of memories of walking around various parts of my campus with friends at about 6am listening to them while intoxicated...

Wrote down some of the bands I really liked from the posts here and went to FYE(closest music shop to my house) and none, I repeat, none of them were in stock! The only shot I had was them burning a CD for me. Lame! So I bought some headphones to ease my pain. I'm trying to listen to all the songs posted, now it's even more enjoyable with these headphones.

Speaking of Leftover Crack, check out Citizen Fish*, they were featured on their album Deadline. I also like their precursor band, Choking Victim. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Nk_b0VYbic! Played this super loud in my car once and drove through downtown. Punk's not dead!
*Citizen Fish - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUb304I4aQk & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TJ-hCMX7-4
Another band that was featured on an album, and who I can't find any of their stuff online, is Drexel. They were on Big D & The Kids Table's album Shot By Lammi. Pretty good stuff, better than Big D's stuff (on that album) if you ask me.
While we're on the topic, there's also Kemuri! First heard them on a Less Than Jake album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYjc6y6MpjU, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC_u8o4H5Ek, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00BDcCCrk0s. They're okay, good instrumentals but I don't really like the lead singer's voice.
To redeem myself, here's some of The Slackers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld16mgE579o, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jInfVlaZ_DE, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d35nhhrgumk (a favorite of mine). Suffca promised me he'd go see them live.

True, but if you look at the kids during the Grunge generation, they've taken on the Hipster Persona, bringing along with them, bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, etc.

Not really. I haven't seen plaid shirts and kids smelling like [censored], wearing corduroys in a very long time. Most hipsters seem to buy their jeans from Baby Gap.

I'm too broke to look the part of a hipster, but I try my best.
Started up Pandora and was reminded of a couple favorite ska songs.

I didn't say they brought the fashion, I said the music. But then again, I've seen plenty of people who would/could be defined as Hipster, wearing plaid shirts and things from the '90s.

Im hip when I listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjINMLy3l1E. If Rolling Stone calls them the worst band ever, they have to be hip.

There's a mistake, though. Hipsters don't dance, they more or less just convulse.
 Reminds me of an episode of King of the Hill.

I think I may have been a closet hipster at one point, I recognize and listened to a few of these bands at some point and I used to look up random unknown bands to listen to. But that was before I knew what a hipster was so it doesn't count right? ...right!?

Interpol, Olivia Tremor Control, Apples in Stereo, Dinosaur Jr., Bell X1
Are Modest Mouse hipster? They're kind well known-ish though.

Then there's the semi-local unknowns: Grand Theft Bus, The Jimmy Swift Band and Wintersleep.

Also lol @ the thread tags, I didn't even notice until today.

I wouldn't call them hipster either. I wouldn't call half the bands in this thread hipster. I'm just saying in the OP it says "This thread is for stuff like acoustic music, ska, reggae, old pop, and obscure bands."

It's all hipster music by BGSForum standards anyway. :D

The hipster portion is meant to be a joke. Even though I consider ska not even close to being hipster, people will still consider it just that.

Okay, so giant joke or not, this hipster thing is getting old. Can't we just talk about music without all the useless hipster comments riddled throughout the thread? It's like we're purposefully downplaying the music by slapping hipster all over it.
