[RELZ] Julan, Ashlander Companion

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:14 am

Is Julan supposed to have companion share in the beginning or do I get that option later? Excellent mod so far, by the way.

Visit a major city and talk to him.

I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to finagle my own character ending up with both him AND Aryon, roleplay-wise...

Aryon is probably into kinky stuff. I mean, he IS a Telvanni.

Julan though....I don't think he would want to share.

Kateri, I just finished the main quest with julan and I must say that it is absolutly awesome. It would be awesome to see more dialog added to tribunal and the bloodmoon questlines, their is so much potential. I swear I would gladly piss my pants to see more dialog added. In my opinion ( not the only one ) this is a must have mod for morrowind. Please more! You said you had ideas please implement them into the game. I cant even put it in words how great this mod is. Thanks for inspiring me to get back into the mainquest, we need to see some more of julan! Just great!!

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for this mod. I'm coming to seriously appreciate well crafted MALE companions. I'm a male gamer so I appreciate female companions and all, but when I realize that literally 95% of companions available are female, I feel less like the Nerevarine and more like a cheap pimp. I want an orc with a huge hammer and an attitude, a vengeful wizard, and now I'm definitely going to keep Julan around.

Thanks! I reckon the thing I'm most proud of with Julan is that male players seem to like having him around as much as female ones - he's not a "boyfriend mod", he's a person. Elf. Whatever.

I haven't tried this version of Julan yet (been playing a Dagoth and didn't want to have to kill him) but I'll add my compliments for the prior iterations. When my character and Julan had a shouting match leaving a certain spymaster's house, I was so upset I didn't play the game for several days. I wished there was some dialogue option to shout back at him "But did you notice that I don't WANT to be that and I'd rather you do and save me the trouble!!!"

Making a character so good that I actually wanted to scream at him and not just remove the mod deserves a thumbs up.

On a slightly related note: Shani's diary is hilarious. When I started reading it, I misread her scribe comment as a scrib comment. Instead of a crystal, I thought her pet scrib had somehow been enspelled with the ability to write notes.

I love this mod. One question though...will Julan ever learn other spells by training his magic skills? How does he get more spells, if ever?

But you can scream at him, can't you? I know I always do - he deserves it! :flamethrower: I do hope people realise that it's OK to choose the "negative" options with him from time to time, they often provoke the best responses! You shouldn't worry about being "punished" for it, it's part of the fun! Even if you lose disposition, how many times has HE said something that drops your disposition? A little give and take is normal in friendship, yes? Anyway, there are times he NEEDS putting in his place. He'll thank you for it later. Maybe.

I love this mod. One question though...will Julan ever learn other spells by training his magic skills? How does he get more spells, if ever?

Train his skills higher and sleep in a bed - he usually gains new spells at 25, 50, 75 and 100 skill level. I never train his conjuration beyond 24 - it drives me nuts when companions summon things, as NPC AI is so dumb they'll summon stuff over a rat.

Greetings.
This seems to be truly interesting mod with decent player-companion interaction and relationship. So first of all, thank you for making it!
I do have a small question. For now it was written that Julan has compatibility issues with Great House Dagoth. Yet I would like to know if it's possible to play both mods together in the following way: Play with Julan normally before getting corprus. Send him away. Play through GHD till the point where you can assume humanoid form again. Pick Julan back and proceed with GHD further. Perhaps add several console commands to finish Julan's quest since Dagoth may be alive.
As for role playing... for me it seems possible to convince him to accept Dagoth Nerevarine ang "grey" House Dagoth as it is shown in GHD.

So...Is it technically possible to play in such a way? And if it is, how much content will be skipped?

I don't know. I've never played GHD and I'm not exactly sure how it handles things. You might ask http://morningstarlady.livejournal.com about it, she has messed around extensively with the two mods in terms of playing them both at once. However, she still ended up missing content (though she'd played the mod before, so it mattered less).

I don't recommend playing with both, and I can't help people who choose to do it. Julan's storyline is designed for the vanilla main quest, it doesn't work with the GHD one. The narrative threads get screwed up, and things stop making sense the way I wrote them. Is it so bad to keep the two mods for separate playthroughs?

Cool! I was wondering if he would get new spells at 50 skill. I keep raising his Mysticism, just because I really want to see what he would do with that kind of magic...

I have one minor question: is Julan able to cope with the various monsters you fight in Morrowind, aka does he have enough Hitpoints and spells or do you have to give him restore health potions regularly? I assume he is, as this mod wouldn't be as popular as it is now, but I just wanted to know for sure. Thanks anyway.

No. Not that difficult at all. Just wanted to have a good companion (actually two companions) for both playthroughs. Hope you don't blame me for that? ^_^
Guess I'll follow your advice then. Thanks for the reply anyway.

Julan is as uber as you want him to be. If you train his combat skills and give him decent weapons and armor, he should be fine. He can also cast healing on himself, so training his restoration skill and giving him restore magicka and restore health potions (in case he runs out of magicka) also helps. If you train his skills up, then his stats and hitpoints are adjusted upwards accordingly.

I'm sure this have been asked a hundred times, but how do you continue with Julan's first quest? I've trained him 15 points, what do I do now? http://princess.elricm.net/JulanFAQHZ.html doesn't help much at all, what conversation in Vivec?

If you've trained him enough, he will ask you a few questions about yourself while in Vivec.

Strange, he asked me those questions in Ald-Ruhn, so I supposed there was another conversation in Vivec. Ah well, thanks for the answer.

I think it's any major city...at least Vivec, Ald-Ruhn, and Balmora.

I find it difficult to keep Julan alive with MCA...every encounter is peppered with a few extra added MCA baddies (who are always way stronger than vanilla enemies). During his first quest he kept dying. Also, I might have to deactivate the Flee mod (can't remember if I have fliggerty's fleeing fetchers or something else), because I was in a Daedric shrine (stuffed full of vanilla daedra as well as MCA baddies): we got an enemy fighter to near death, she took off like the wind, and no matter what I said to Julan, he ran after her. Ran right into a den of warlocks and Dremora Lords. Didn't end well.

No, you really DON'T want to play GHD and Julan together, their main quests stuff each other up. If you have Julan, you cant finish the GHD main quest (you slam hard against several incomplete points of the Julan questline, most notably the Cavern of the Incarnate). If you are a member of House Dagoth, you can't finish some of Julan's quests.

Do you know if this mod is compatible with http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1787? Or should I just teleport and warp him to me afterwards? If so, how many quests do you have to do before the ring?

You get the ring fairly early on - train him a bit, follow the next quest and you should get it soon enough. However, if you were running a mod like Improved Teleportation or Companion Teleportation by cdcooley, you could summon him easily, ring or not: http://home1.gte.net/cdcooley/

I think julan is severly lacking in dialouge in alot of things. For example, having to do that little "favor" for curio to become hlaalu hortator. I was expecting something along the lines of..... *Julan Shudders* Ugh, makes me glad that I WASN'T Nerevar........ Or(if you play a male character).......Ok, I did not want to see that, nope, not at all. Another thing, alot of mods, Julan will die in the first battle if you don't raise his hit points. Yns Mon is a prime example. Also, the ring in BR, that allowed you to command your followers with it. Julan could really use one of those in battle. Dialog on the main quest is pretty good though, but the only headware I can get him to make fun of is the indoril helmet. He doesn't seem to notice when you have to escort anyone(such as the woman who wants to go to ghostgate), I was expecting him to say..... "Humph, N'wah can't go anywhere without having a native take them! We should just leave them, then see what happens!"...... And does he have any dialog. Also, where is shani? I told her to go to the Ahemmusa tribe, and now I can't find her anywhere. Curse you 72 hour bug!!! Is she supposed to have her own yurt?

Julan does have dialogue for that scene, or he should. I thought I tested it, but it was a while ago now. If another mod loaded was affecting Curio's dialogue, it may also have overwritten the lines.

Another thing, alot of mods, Julan will die in the first battle if you don't raise his hit points. Yns Mon is a prime example.

Of course he will die if you don't raise his skills, and send him into a tough battle. Exactly what do you think I should change about that? I don't want to create an uber companion to unbalance the game. You can train him to be uber, but you have to work at it. Sorry, but I don't see the problem.

Also, the ring in BR, that allowed you to command your followers with it. Julan could really use one of those in battle.

He does have a command ring, you're just not given it right at the beginning. You'll get it soon if you follow his quest.

Shani usually teleports to the healer's yurt... but if you don't have Julan's ring yet, I'm a bit confused as to why she would be teleporting anywhere. What exactly happened?
