Just had a horrible date...

Your first date should always be a quick coffee, then if it's not going well you're not stuck there for hours.

in fact that is one of the first things i bring up when i do go on the "coffee" date and ask to spend longer together

I agree. First dates with people you don't know can be terrible, like MorrowindFan's was. I prefer to talk over coffee or tea, (though I haven't been on a real date in years.)

 I'm nice, which is the issue. I SHOULD have just said "Well, I need to get going" or something, but I couldn't think of a polite way to break it off.
I'm nice too, and it really svcks sometimes.

Since there has been no permanent damages why bother? When you fail you just try again with a different approach.

Well, I was just thinking, us guys can be idiots no matter what we're doing (I'm sure every female here agrees with that) and maybe agreeing on some do's and don't's would make things go smoother. Then again, really don't know what I'm talking about.

from my experience with dating women that doesn't go all that well.

most of them want you to be able to know what they do or don't like with out being told, as some kind of proof of affection.

Mirglof is right. It's not proof of affection, though -- just proof that you really are "special" / "the one" / "compatible".

Nascent relationships would be easier if we could just talk about what it is that's going on. But if we have to talk about it, then it means we aren't "meant to be" or that we just don't "get them". Or something. I wish I was gay. Dating guys is 3000 times easier than dating women.

Your first date should always be a quick coffee, then if it's not going well you're not stuck there for hours.

Yes.

if you know you're too polite to leave and you date people you hardly know, you're kind of begging to get yourself into situations like this. but when you've done the mistake, it often helps to talk about until you get over it.
i avoid this by not going on dates at all with people i don't know. i like to know what kind of people i'm getting mixed up with before things get too far, and it also feels more natural  friends first, maybe more later if i like you.

Immediately tried to hold my hand, didn't maintain respectful distance during the date (considering it was the first date), tried to put his head on my shoulder while we were just standing in front of the cash register in RadioShack (we went to the mall), and just overall our personalities didn't match. He also asked me well over a dozen times if I was having fun. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but definitely not someone I care to date.

Sounds like he was just trying to show that he was interested, some people are attracted to initiative...

Then my eyes glaze over and my arms become these weird foreign objects just dangling next to me. I start to swing them around and shove them inside pockets, sometimes not even my own.

I didn't know we had an ignoramus on the forums, bravo. (I kid, I kid)

Did you by any chance arrange this date via a dating website? Those are horrible, I'd rather take my chances at a bar or a... non-denominational church.

i wasnt trying to be rude?

But it kind of was.

Morrowindfan, like it's been said. There's younger be a lot more bad dates before you find the one. Just take a day or two and relax and regroup. Play a video game or watch a movie to clear your head.

The situation is dependent on what you were looking for. Were you looking for a long term relationship, or a late night fling?

Like the title says, I just got home from a terrible date. It was so overly awkward that I almost turned into a penguin.

The guy was nice enough, but he... Was sort of obnoxious, to be honest. He smoked, which is meh, but more importantly I feel that he violated my personal space. I just felt terribly uncomfortable the whole time, and considering we met at 2:30 and didn't part ways until 7... I'm pretty drained emotionally.

So... Any idea how to cheer up and learn from this?

Thanks...

Lol I had a date like that last year. It was HORRIBLE omg the moment I left I picked up my phone and called as many friends as I could to spill them the juice. It was totally awkward! the guy was only bragging about how masculine he was to the point where I felt like I'd much rather spend my life with a drag queen than with him. We had 0 things in common and I started to wonder why the hell I even gave that guy my phone number in the first place?!

I came out of a very intense relationship that lasted for almost three years. After that I decided to take it easy and not focus on a relationship or whatsoever for at least a year. So a year passed by and this guy approached me and asked me on a date so I thought "okay why not?". WORST REASON TO GO ON A DATE EVER! I didn't really even liked him in the first place but I just wanted to get into this dating thing again and it was HORRIBLE lol. Worst date ever that lasted way too long as well. I felt exactly the same way as you did, emotionally drained and tired.

And after that you just go on to the next one you know...after that I met some great people on dates but I still haven't found the right one. Sometimes you already notice from the start that it's not going to be a match but what the hell...that doesn't mean you can't have fun :)!

I have a question!!! Is it worth to date someone that had already dated multiple times (3 other people)? This girl really liked me, would constantly look at me. Then I found out about the 3 other guys and I dont like her anymore. Is it fair of me to do that? Call me old school but I want be together forever with the first person I first go out with.

It's more than just unlikely you'll be in a relationship with only one person in your entire life.

Wait, are you saying that the girl is currently dating 3 other guys? Or she has dated 3 other guys in the past?

If it's the latter.....why would you only be interested in dating someone who has never dated anyone ever before? And if you want to be "together forever" with the first person you've ever gone out with, how are you going to know what to compare that relationship to if you've never dated anyone before? It sounds to me like you're looking for a fairy tale romance that doesn't actually happen in the real world.....

If it's that she's currently dating 3 other guys, then I'd say forget it if you're looking for a monogamous long-term relationship, because that's obviously not what she's looking for at the moment.

Why would you compare a past relationship with a current one..?
