Keybinding Issues

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 10:01 am

That would be awesome, I knew I should have just read a few pages if anyone had the same problem. Though they had the same thing in Fallout3. Could't bind pip-boy to anything else the "TAB." You could pop up pip-boy with any key but only close it with the default one X). I don't think it ever got fixed.

Did you happen to remap the keys at all? Go reset them to default just in case and see if you can.

Try your "1st person / 3rd person key" in inventory, works for me as favorites key x).

I think they know about this and it's going to be fixed. There was a developer around here in another thread that was discussing a similar issue with another user. I didn't read much of it though.
Could you please provide a link to the thread containing the dev's comments?

I am yet another player who registered here to complain about this.

As with many others I've been using the numpad in all games for the last 15 years or so.
Only recently has this problem been popping up, never as severely as in Skyrim.

There have been "default button" problems in Oblivion and Fallout 3 along with New Vegas, where you could for example customize a key to open the pip boy, but had to use the default key to close it.

But this is just ridiculous, 1 to 8 on numpad don't work, but 9 does.

As some have stated in this thread, this problem is a deal breaker for me.
I suggest a quick fix to this from Bethesda.

(There was a problem in Brink, users couldn't bind KP_Enter, and it got fixed very quickly, hopefully we will see the same thing here)

Furthermore:

- In the map view, you must scroll the map using default WASD instead of new movement keys.
- In the favorites list, you must use WASD to scroll up and down instead of the new movement keys.

If I add a weapon to my favourites list, then bind a hot key to it, it will only work once if I have more than one copy of that weapon in my inventory. If I then swap to another item, then try to swap back to hot-keyed weapon it will not work.

Any way to workaround other than drop duplicate copies of the weapon?

Absolutely disappointed, was looking forward to getting into this and low and behold ... I cannot bind my numpad keys for movement rendering this unplayable currently. Probably take forever for them to sort this out so I'm just moving on to other games ... besides they'll probably need to patch other stuff 'sigh'

OK, i found another post that solved my problem some what, atleast now i can play.

POV button is the same as the key you set your favorites with in the menu, cant understand why they don't have the same key for favorite in the menu and when you bind your quick keys??

I support this pedition. I want to have the ability to rebind any key to any location I want. I'm used to arrow keys since over 25 years and I don't want to learn a new setting. It's specially annyoing inside inventorys and menus, where I'm forced to use A, R and D keys to exit menus and/or inventory. I know about a mod on FO and FONV that let?s you rebind any ingame key to any location, search for 'remap key' on the Nexus, maybe a modder can port this to Skyrim.

Yes I have this problem too, I have two long bows in my inventory and when I add to favorites, the assigned number always goes away when I choose another weapon.

This is just such a severe problem that it should be fixed by Bethesda, not by modders or 3d party programs.

Luckily I have a G13 and I can custom map every key. Still this is a major let down for PC users.

Another freshly registered user, but long time Elder Scrolls player voicing their frustration with lack of proper number pad support. I'm also left handed, and I always use the number pad for movement, item usage, and whatever else I need. RAGE was another game recently with horrid number pad support. Oversights like this really boggle my mind. It's such a straightforward thing to do, so how could it be forgotten or was it just deemed unimportant?

Sure, Skyrim supports the use of a controller, but if I wanted to use a controller, I'd have bought the game for my 360!

Sure, I could use this autohotkey thing (I may have no choice), but I shouldn't have to.

Lke i said, the F key works, just not in the "tab" menu, only in when i'm in enemy inventory. While i can favourite weapons and other items like that i can't favourite the magic as it doesn't appear in enemy inentory.

This is ridiculous, Oblivion let me bind keys to my numeric keypad and it's basically the same engine, I am disabled and have to use a small usb keypad to control games, Bethesda should be promoting accessibility like most other companies, this problem along with the Steam requirement is making me regret my purchase.

A lot of these other topics people are posting on here are simple, common sense fixes. All I want to do is assign a bow or an axe to the "Favorite Menu" (Which I've never been able to see) When I select an item in my inventory it says on the bottom of the screen " F - Favorite" So I push F and absolutely nothing happens. I went into the help section in the menu, and it says "To assign an item to the Favorites menu, select the item, and push T". That doesn't work either... I have no idea what to do, and its really bugging me to have to manually switch between items every time I want too.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Adding my voice to the complaint. Hard to believe any game is released at this time without having a fully configurable interface. Such a simple thing to include.

Signed up to the forums because of the numpad issue. I'm a lefty too, using numpad since forever in PC games. WASD keybinds don't cut it for me. Dropped a lot of money (CE edition!) for this game, I would appreciate full customizable settings.
