Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Thread #4

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 7:27 am

Anyone know if the demo will be available on steam? Apparently KoA was spotted in the steam registry (although that's third hand knowledge) so I'm hopeful. Hopefully it won't require origin on top of steam as well.

One review nailed it on the head, plays a lot more like Fable and a lot less like Skyrim. I might give it a shot, probably pick it up at a slightly discounted price because I do want to offer some support to a team as great as this that is willing to put all this love into a project that could fail.

Third person..... Cartoony graphics.... Silly unrealistic combat... I'll wait for some reviews before i get it. As it is now it looks like an platform version of World of Warcraft.

Agreed. QTE's don't help the situation either, and it looks fairly railroaded.

Oh I hate QTE's didn't know they'd be using them  . What makes you think it's railroaded though?

I'm liking the look of all the variation in the world, kinda reminds a bit of Zelda in that aspect. Skyrim's world can be pretty samey...

Apparently there's going to be a demo for both Reckoning and Mass Effect 3, with cross gamerewards for the full game if you play them (space armor in Reckoning, some Reckoning armor in ME3)

In that case there is a Big chance Reckoning will require Origin since Mass Effect does.

It's on XBL now apparently and the steam/origin and PSN demos are supposed to be available later today.

So I'm assuming you need a gold account to get the demo 'cause I don't see it on xbl.

It's a long-shot. EA's not quite fond of Valve recently and ME3 is already an Origin exclusive. I have a feeling by all means it will. But if a demo really is coming to Steam you may have a point. Or it's just a leverage.

On another note the Skyrim comparisons should stop. In hindsight Reckoning seems to be even less of an RPG, not to mention I thought Skyrim was a step up for BGS. For what it represents in TES lore Skyrim was done well.

Reckoning leaves me wanting more though but with Ken Rolsten on board, who dumbed down Morrowind from DF's level, it's not quite a title that I see to be an RPG stand-out but a nice playthrough. Its mechanics are the same/less than Skyrim. So far the story/writing might be what to look towards.

Hate to say it but even a bare-RPG like ME3 has me looking more forward to it, or Rockstar's games.

I'm downloading it now. I heard someone say you need to log in to an Origin account to play the demo, even on Steam. Not sure if it's true.

Judging by the gameplay videos, the minimap appears to be fairly linear. At least not open world. It looks like Conan or Mage Night Apocalypse. Even if I'm slightly off, it can't be by much. I can promise that I'll sit this one out. I'm boycotting QTE releases anyways.

Just tried to play the demo on both Steam and Origin...
Steam:Crashes on first loadscreen every single time
Origin:Game starts, have a pitch black screen, can walk but not see a damn thing.

Good thing I didn't buy this.

I also crash on the first loading screen with the Steam demo, regardless of graphics settings. I hope they're fixing the demo. Not bothering with the Origin version.

Looks like the Steam servers were having some issues. Revalidating the files made the demo work for me.

Still had to turn post processing off though.

Downloading the demo, been looking forward to this game.

A lot of people seem to forget that some games are meant to be be you know... GAMES. Not gritty, realistic, simulations.

And what is post-processing?
