Has anyone else been following this as much as I have? Not getting too hyped up on it, but it does show some considerable promise. What are your thoughts?

As Un-decaffinated(I butchered your name) asked in the last thread, does anyone have any info on the depth of factions, quests, ect? I've been digging around, but nothing solid yet.

I'm not sure what to think about it. Sometimes I look at a video and think it looks great and I'll definitely get it, and another time I'd think it looks like a generic fight-y game with not much opportunity for roleplaying or really making your mark on the world- a bit like fable 2 (never played the first unfortunately) or Dragon Age. Don't get me wrong, I liked Fable 2, but I never replayed it like I do with elder scrolls games, where I feel the opportunities are endless.

Perhaps it's wrong of me to try and compare them too much, but I just don't want to be disappointed. I hated whichever Dragon Age game my friend lent me.

Not sure how in depth it is as I haven't watched it my but I recall seeing an article on either RPS or GamesRadar about a new video they posted that I think that shows some character interaction and stuff. I'll try to find a link.

It was probably Dragon age 2 then, as the first had much different combat than anything like KoA;R.

I kind of get the same feeling from the game right now too. It could really go either way at this point. I hope it's a success, as there aren't a lot of "really good" RPGs released every year. Lets just hope it's at least decent.

I would really appreciate it. :)

Apparently there's going to be a demo for both Reckoning and Mass Effect 3, with cross game rewards for the full game if you play them (space armor in Reckoning, some Reckoning armor in ME3).

I really don't care for that stuff, but having a demo for Reckoning is definitely good news. As long as the demo is not Xbox exclusive, anyway.

Not many game demos these days, the only recent ones I can remember were indie games.

Heres the article http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/01/12/kingdoms-of-amalurs-non-combat-bits/
I watched the video and it wasn't what I thought, its a showcase of some of the non combat skills. There is a demo coming in a couple days though so we should get some more detailed info soon.
I have to say watching these videos, I'm really excited about this game it looks much more fun than skyrim was; can't wait to try it out.

Edit: Am I mistaken or is that Claudia Black doing the voice over? I hope shes a VA for it as well.

I read somewhere that there are six factions, but I've only seen descriptions of five of them: Travellers (stealth), Scholia Arcana (mages), Warsworn (warriors), and the two joinable fae clans, House of Sorrows and House of Ballads.

@br0ski Yes that is Claudia Black

The more I see the more I do not like the "Might" pillar. This may be the first game I start as a stealth character instead of a Tank.

Not sure what to think about this yet. It looks like a shallow hack'n'slash with graphics somewhere between Fable and WoW. I need to see more.

Can you jump in this game, by the way?

Always a good indication of just how open world a game is. :P

Shallow, not really. Reckoning is a pretty deep RPG with Action Elements, 9 non combat attributes, a unique class system that doesn't force you into choosing one of the 3 arch stereotypes, a diablo loot type system where there's a lot of items, the freedom that an Elder Scrolls game has, etc. Shallow would certainly not be the word I would describe Reckoning.

No you can't jump and I don't know if jumping would make sense in Reckoning but the world is still large.

I dont remember the name, but the last faction is an "arena" like one. Similar to Oblivion.

This may have been answered somewhere, but....

I'm pondering PC vs console. The combat system (what I've seen of it) seems like it would be better with a controller. But will the game have much ability to mod? If so, then PC would seem to be the way to go.

And yeah, you can use a controller on PC, but.... I'm a long-time Playstation player. The idea of a controller like the Xbox one, with the very weird offset anolog sticks, makes me really uncertain. (yes, there's apparently ways to use a PS3 controller on PC, but the instructions make it seem like you have to jump through alot of hoops to do it, whereas "plug in an XBox controller" looks pretty simple.)

As for modding, the devs have been talking about releasing a dev kit at a later date.

I think PC or console will be fine and with the PC Version if you attach a 360 controller it will have one specific UI but go with Keyboard and Mouse and it changes to more of a PC Type UI. As for modding, there isn't going to be a kit released at launch but you probably could still mod it if you have the skills and if enough people ask for it they may release a kit one day. That's one of the good things about BHG/38 Studios, they are very user friendly and listen to concerns that fans have and have weekly Q&A's about the game too.

At least with the race choices it's not just One Human, or One Elf.

At least there are race choices. Most games make you play a single race or even a specific character.

Third person.....

Cartoony graphics....

Silly unrealistic combat...

I'll wait for some reviews before i get it. As it is now it looks like an platform version of World of Warcraft.

I was thinking more of WoW meets Fable, but I agree with you.
