Mass Effect Thread #60

No. That's different. The... bug-eyed aliens created the krogan, so they, and everyone else on the council thing, are now responsible for them. Also, they can be reasoned with. The Rachni are different. They just travelled to the ME part of the universe and started killing everybody, with absolutely no justification.
You can't blame the rachni entirely for their actions though, given that it was the protheans who bred them to be so warlike in the first place.

No they didn't, they just gave them modern technology and brought them to figth the Rachni. As a result of giving them advanced technology the Krogan rebellions and ultimately the nuclear war on Tuchanka happened.

Actually, the krogan discovered how to split the atom on their own. The nuclear war that devastated Tuchanka took place 2000 years before the salarians made first contact with the krogan.

One thing that I like about the ME 'verse is that, although it is minor, all alien homeworlds follow our naming convention when it comes to our home planet in that it's named after something, or means something instead of being called Salaria Prime or Asara. Makes sense considering that Earth means "Ground", so one would imagine that other species wouldn't rename their planet after discovering space flight. Unlike seemingly every other sci-fi franchise in the history of existence.

It always weirded me out that in Star Trek humans and Klingons seemed to be the only ones that didn't name themselves after their planet or visa versa.

Exactly. If, by your actions, you alter someone's entire way of life, I'd say you're at least partly responsible for them (and their actions) thereafter. There are some interesting RL parallels... :whistling:

You can't blame the rachni entirely for their actions though, given that it was the protheans who bred them to be so warlike in the first place.

It's not about fault. It's just about doing what's best for the largest amount of living things.

ME's morality metre is sometimes contrary/unhelpful/useless.

I sacrificed Admiral Raanan (as tali died in ME2) to get the geth on my side, such a great scene when the geth obliterate the quarians.

Not a great ending, but to then go to credits then you esc out and it says go on your further adventures with shepard with our DLC's, maybe if they released the DLC's for purchase at game release rather than after the ending like they did the ME 2, how can you have and end to a trilogy only to have the further adventures of captain shepard and their plucky crew of space adventurers, what wacky and zany antics will our heroes get up to this week. Im trying to see the logic in DLC's now.

I was a little disappointed with the ending.

I played the "blank" playthrough where I don't have any save files.

It doesn't go into what happens after the end from what I can tell.....

End spoilers below!
Spoiler
Just the reapers destroyed or controlled and then goes to credits with a small epilogue generations later. Underwhelming to me

Who ever thought having the camera float one metre behind Shephard was a good design decision? The longer I play this game, the more I remember why I had such low expectations.

I had high expectations, and they were mostly met. Like, 99% met.

Then... the horrors.

Golden rule 3rd person games - the hardest enemy should always be the camera.
Also, low expectations are good, especially for this generation of gaming :)

Just a reminder that my Origin name is EmiW if anyone wants to add me and play some multiplayer. Maybe we could add peoples usernames and gamertags to the initial post so people don't have to sort through old threads to find other players? :)

Rumor has it that Bioware heard our pleas for a new ending. It could actually happen. Though this is just early rumors.
Of course Bioware heard the fan outrage. Even Helen Keller has heard the fans. Which is remarkable seeing as she has been stricken with disabilities that make it difficult to communicate. You know, being blind and deaf.... and dead. :P

Finished the game; Clocked just at 40:02. Not bad for an Insanity run. (Though about twenty hours was spent on the "Critical Mission Failure" screen)

Must say, the internet was working me up to believe the ending was the worst thing to come into the gaming world since the Super Mario Bro's movie.. Honestly, its not. That's my opinion on it though, and while changing them would make me a bit more satisfied with it, I know it'll never happen.

However, after I finally went back to the Bioware Social Network after weeks of departure, I found an interesting theory that, and hear me out, actually made a bit of sense. The guy claims he has "proof" but I see none; However, it makes a s*** ton of sense story wise, and made me think that it actually might have been from the original script.

Give it a look for yourself.

I got about halfway through A and had to stop. Why do you insist on rubbing the stupidity of the ending("s") into the wound?
