While some expressed doubts, the overwhelming feeling is that even if Bioware doesn’t give up a new ending, the movement’s energy and time are spent in more constructive ways than flaming on Destructoid or Kotaku. The supporters of the Retake movement have made a real effort to channel their anger and disappointment into something good. To paraphrase many of the posts on the thread, “What’s the worst case scenario, we helped some kids out? What do we have to lose?” Many who don’t contribute due to age or financial restrictions are still tweeting the charity drive and encouraging others. This is the first time that I know of that fans of a game that have been disappointed so much, have turned around and done something this positive. Even if Bioware and EA don’t give them the new ending, they’ve done two things: contributed to a worthwhile cause, and started a trend wherein gamers of all stripes can do something other than flame and bomb reviews. Hell, a number of the voice actors have retweeted the charity drive.
