Stupid question that i would really appreciate an answer for.

I am aware that there are bonuses for ME2 for completeing Mass Effect 2 itself. Do these only apply to a new game+ character, or am I safe to start a character from the import of ME1 so I can reap benefit of the +190 to paragon?

Over $10,000 in less than one day in donations for Child's Play.

I don't understand?

So they form a group to hate on Bioware and EA and get a new ending, then start a charity for sick kids? What was the point of starting the charity? I'm not saying it's bad, I'm a frequent charity giver, but wasn't the point of the group to get Bioware's and EA's attention? So why would they turn there attention to something completely different?

Technically, they started a charity drive, not a charity. They seem to be attempting to raise money for Child's play (the penny-arcade authors' charity) as a way of getting positive media coverage for their complaints.

Insulted by what -that they are selling random merchandise to anyone who feels like springing for it? Honestly, I get the beef about the DLC being in the CE only, but merchandising stuff. Meh, nothing there to get worked up over.

Right Enjoy your collector rifle, +1, +1, +1, +1, +1 ect. and saved 3 hours of time for 870 dollars. I love that no one EVER mentions the fact that it's not critical DLC. You can earn those items just playing multiplayer, and not in all that long of a time either.

Wow, people are so pissed off at the ending they're donating to charity to raise awareness of how bad it was. 24k and counting. I suspect with this gigantic backlash something will be done, Bioware would be insane not to take our money.

I only bring it up because the Collector Assault Rifle does not appear in the packs. This is literally the only way to recieve it.

Edit for clarification: I'm annoyed / insulted for the fact if I want a competent assault rifle I'd have to do this. It has the highest base damage of the full-auto assault rifles, and has a x1.25 damage bonus to armor / shields / barriers. Essentially a very useful gun for those who wish to brave the insanity of gold difficulty.

Edit for further clarification: I was originally going to post just the stuff for the C.A.R., but I figured that since it was there, why not add it. And IMO, unless those packs were all rare and above items, I wouldn't give any of them the time of day ('cept maybe for a Miranda or Femshep Figure....)

The difference between that rifle and the next best one can't possibly be worth any of that $. If someone has that much spare cash and is crazy enough to think it's worth it, more power to them. The rest of us can just point and laugh.

(seriously... in the case of things like that - blatant traps for the proverbial "fool and his money", I'm much more likely to place blame on the dude who fell for it, rather than the company offering it.)

Also

if I want a competent assault rifle

I have minor issues with the point of view that the only "competent" assault rifle is the theoretically "best" one. Yes, some of the AR's svck (Argus, for example), but at least several of them fall in the category of "competent".

edit: the "slightly randomized" MP unlock packs, I'd be willing to bet, are the exact same ones you can buy in-game, either for credits or for Bioware points (i.e, $$$).

Something will no doubt be done to fix the endings. But, if the PR guys at EA/Bioware are smart, they could use this to their advantage. Like tell the fans that Bioware is aware of the retake mass effect movement and would like to contribute to it by developing new ending DLC, charging x amount for it, and donate a portion of the profits to the charity.

It kind of depresses me that I could be feeding the monster with that idea... :(

Even if I was dumb enough to purchase these with real money, there would be no way I would, especially with the reset glitch possible, and you will receive no reimbursemant if it happens to you. I guess this was also another point towards my frustration.

It does some social good, EA will never partake. Now if you let them keep the profits to themselves greedily they would be more likely to listen.

Should see the [censored] storm just brewing, Casey Hudson came out and tried to deflect the issue of the terrible ending. The forum is beginning to turn into a wasps nest. It's only made people dig in harder and hold the line. /Mordin.

Yeah, I don't see any reason to spend $ on them. You get 15k credits a match, four matches -> 3x Veteran pack.

I just got the game today, was so excited, pop it in, import character, and... "OMG ERROR ERROR WE CANT IMPORT YOUR FACE YOU HAVE TO START OVER DURRR" seriously, what the heck? is bioware working on a fix? seems like an awful big thing to miss. <-- That's what she said...

"They're working on it" was the last I heard. Apparently it's due to a problem with the way ME2 imports ME1 games where it doesn't use all the facegen data, though I'm not sure why it couldn't just ask for the original ME1 savegame in addition...

At least those people are doing something good about it. They've raised well over $20000 for charity already. Would you rather the people angry about the ending use those resources to react the way the internet usually does?

Guess that makes sense. Out of curiouity, If I were to pick up the series for the PC, could I use a 360 controller, like Skyrim, or would I have to deal with normal mouse controls, which I am horrible with.

I use a gamepad - using a keyboard seems to hurt my hand but a gamepad is exactly the right shape. And I find my accuracy is much higher with the mouse.

Unfortunately I have full paragon and still wasn't able to reach a conclusion saving them both. It's more than just your reputation but factors in a LOT of decisions made from ME1 and ME2. Sadly I had to

As I understand if from my links on the Kaidanite board (don't judge me!!!) they're using the money they otherwise would have spent on DLC to make donations. Its not come out of nowhere, as well as it being for a good cause, it's to show Bioware 'this is how much money you could have had for DLC if you hadn't cocked up the ending'.

Am I being too cynical by suspecting that an alternative ending already exists and will be provided as a chargeable DLC when they deem it most profitable to do so...?
