Mass Effect thread #68

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 12:44 am

I tried Multiplayer first time in a long while and it was far more boring than I remembered. I don't really see the attraction in it. Same pointless 20 minute massacres over and over again for a pointless goal.

Every time I play a multiplayer game to ensure least crappy ending I feel I have only managed to waste time. It feels incredibly pointless.

That's what it feels like on Bronze. On Silver or Gold it actually takes a good amount of effort and is much more fun.

Now I only play Bronze if I want to level a character up for Silver, which isn't going to happen anytime soon unless Bioware has another weekend event where the requirement is to promote characters.

Meh, silver and gold aren't much fun. They are harder, but the point still is that you gun down endless hordes of mooks who attack you for reasons not explained.

I think the reasoning is because you are a galaxy at war. Now if they had actual battle fields instead of "fire bases" it would be a whole lot better. But I think the point they are trying to get across (besides selling online passes) is that in MP you are not Shep, you are an everyday grunt fighting the war.

You ran into the way they weighted the paragon/renegade system. One of the writers explained it. Then one of the mods posted a possible way around it.

http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/105/index/2907273

Its easier to get the paragon option if you do Jack's and MIranda's loyalty missions sooner rather than waiting.
Huh, go figure. Except, being on at least my fifth play through, there aren't really any paragon or renegade options I miss anywhere. But I actually, reading wiki talk stuff, found a work-around. I re-spec'd my adept and dropped the Nemesis specialty for the other one, which had a way bigger boost for paragon/renegade options. That basically filled the fifth bar except for a smidge, I did Miranda's mission and got the paragon convo option.

ME1 did NOT like my newer Nvidia card. Last time I played ME1 in the fall, I still had the ATI card. But replaying it a week or two ago and I had several bad crashes - and it was unique to ME1, rest of the time, my PC was working fine. I updated drivers and that seemed to stop the nasty hard shut down crash, but I still ctd a few times.

A question about a possible glitch in ME2: I have my paragon bar with four completed sections filled in and already filling in the fifth section. Renegage only has 1.5 sections filled in. My last two loyalty missions before going to get the Reaper IFF were for Samara and Miranda. To my surprise, with the Samara one, it would not give me the paragon option when Morinth tries to seduce Shepard. And since I have done that quest with slightly less paragon filled out, I was puzzled, but not too bothered, not like I wanted Morinth anyway. So I then went to do Miranda's loyalty quest - again, paragon filled four full bars, maybe started into the fifth one. And to my dismay, the fight between Jack and Miranda, I got no Paragon or renegad command that would allow me to keep their loyalty. So I'm pissed - I always leave either Jack or Amanda for last to make sure I have enough Paragon point to keep them both loyal.

So I reloaded a save from before I did the Morinth stuff in the VIP lounge. Same result, no paragon convo option. Anyone else hit this? I'm peeved.

I had a similar problem except for me the Jack/Miranda fight happened twice, and the second time I couldn't use paragon or renegade to diffuse the situation.

This is the most fun I've had with multiplayer this generation. I usually don't like playing shooters online, but this has captivated me. I love the cooperative side of it.

So.,.. replaying ME2 with a full biotic... am at Legion's loyalty mission (and why oh why couldn't they have brought Legion in earlier. I love the character.) So... for ME3 preparedness, or for the Quarian missions - does it make any difference, even slightly, if I choose to destroy the heretics or rewrite them?

Spoiler
If you rewrite, it becomes a bit more difficult to make peace between the Geth and Quarians during the Rannoch mission. You have to do both Rannoch sidequests, Tali can't have died or been exiled, and you have to have used Charm or Intimidate during Tali and Legion's argument on the Normandy.

Much obliged. Thanks. Guess i lucked out when I played ME3 initially then, because I got the resolution I wanted. :)

Weekly. I believe the Premium Spec. Pack marks the end of the cycle, and we will have the normal equip. pack next, followed by the premium vet. pack, then the jumbo equip. pack, then the prem. spec. pack again.

110 from destruction vs 150 preservation added from when you finish priority: Cerberus base to the crucible supplies.

Argh. This is the first time ever I chose to save the base. It feels wrong. And talking to the crew afterwards, they are all "WTF are you thinking Shepard!" And I feel weird about it. I am half tempted to reload and run the collector base mission again.

The only thing I have not yet done is Arrival. I was wondering though... you get that quest fairly early on in ME2 (well, around the mid-point maybe). Does that have any impact on how the rest of ME2 plays out if you just decide to go do it. What I have read about it, I thought it was intended to accounf for the time between the end of ME2 and beginning of ME3.

depending on when you do it you will either converse with harbinger speaking through his servant (pre-suicide mission), or harbinger himself (post suicide mission).

Finally beat the game...full 1050 gamerscore on 1st playthrough....and I really wish I had the optimism of Emz right about now because I'm not as aggravated as I thought I was going to be......I'm worse.

The free DLC that's coming out on tuesday. It'll make new classes and weapons available through the normal supply packs. I'm trying to save my credits so I can have a better shot at getting some of the new content as soon as possible. It's not working out well for me; I'm constantly low those two consumables because I don't want to buy supplies, and when I do I always get things like Thermal Clip Packs, and I have 140 of those.
