Well, public shame can be a powerful motivator. I love Bethesda and Obsidian both, and they produce some of my favorite games, but there is no denying that those games have a habit of being more bug ridden than a dumpster. Up till now both companies have continued to release buggy games after they were gently called out on doing so in the past. Maybe an internet wide article frenzy on how poorly tested their games are is necessary to scare or shame them into alotting more time for bug fixing and testing on wider range of machines.
It isn't unfair to call them out at this point. Both of Bethesda's last two games had buggy launches, and this makes Obsidian's second very buggy launch of a game this year. Hell, they are REPEATING some of the same bugs.
It seems none of their 70+ testers were playing the PC version of the game on a 64bit system with a quad core - a huge majority of the PC users experiencing problems have high-end machines. Did they not test the game on the most recent gaming rigs? But here they get the only leeway they are going to get from me on the issue - there are a huge combination of PC hardware, software, and drivers where something can go wrong.
But for consoles? No excuse. Every console is identical hardware and software. It is a closed environment. Definitely no sympathy for them there.
I hope the next time Bethesda or Obsidian release a game, whether working together or not, they allocate several months devoted to nothing but bug testing. I WANT to see both companies succeed and do their best. And if being called "unfit" loudly and shamefully in public is what it takes for them to put on some running shoes and get themselves in shape, I'm all for it.
