Meet the New Vegas Companions

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:41 am

So is enemy ai and difficulty going to scale depending on if you are alone, with one companion, or with one human and one non human companion? It would be pretty ridiculous if the difficulty and ai doesn't scale of I have two companions travelling with me.

There's no scaling in the wasteland. These companions don't look like unstoppable killing machines anyway.

On a side note, are we able to heal our companions? That was one thing I didnt like about F3 companions.

Really? I don't suppose theres a 'You don't shoot till I shoot' option?

That would be nice.

Dogmeat's rare random attacks on moody citizens of Megaton weren't pleasant.

And you can heal them, I imagine they're smarter about their stimpak use now but you can force them to heal using the wheel now.

YES!

I am extremely happy about this, as much for the background models shown as for the info about the characters. From that I can see the Fac-kit and OffHall kits made the cut, which means good things for my mod. I have not seen evidence yet of the Skaffold kit from the DLC the Pitt, I'm hoping that made it in too - the sckaffold kit is particularly well done and useful (hoping!).

As to the NPCs, what can I say but Wow... Already I can feel the depth of their characters more than what I felt from Fallout3, and I havn't played the darn game yet. Just from this backstory I can see Obsidian is good on their reputation for deep characters. :)

This interview was good Good GOOD! Now for 34 more days of hell waiting... :fallout: Now onto Jason Bergman's podcast - lets hope for more new bits! Jason is the Master of the handing out the Scoobie Snacks - but only when it's time. :P

Those perks are looking pretty damn enticing. Kudos to Obsidian on that, not a single one of them looks wasteful.

Whiskey Rose: best perk ever? Never used a single alochol beverage before in Fallout but turning myself into a bulletproof drunk sounds pretty tempting.

Ah well, we take what we can get, and what Obsidian is giving us is a pretty present so far. I can't wait to unwrap it :cryvaultboy:

I'm personally glad Marcus and Joshua Graham are not possible companions. One thing that detracted heavily from Fallout 3 was overpowered companions. It seems in this, companions are what they should be, highly specialized support characters.

To be fair there's nothing saying that either of those characters would have had to have been overpowered.

Rex sounds like quite the lil battle hardened badass.

It's gonna be hell trying to decide between ED-E and him.

(you only get to keep one non humanoid at one time)

Yea but not scaling the difficulty whether you are by yourself or have the help of two other companions is bizarre. If nothing will scale will more enemies at least spawn? That's it...more enemies have to spawn depending on companions or it would be unbalanced.

I'm pretty sure you can use stimpacks on them via the companion wheel.

I don't understand rex perk? When the camera is zoomed in you can spot unequipped items?

I like the looks of Boone and Raul the most. Raul is voiced by Danny Trejo..

If you zoom (even if you just tap zoom it for a second) any unequipped chems, ammo, or weapons pulse red in the environment. This can make scanning locations for valuable goodies (especially in the dark) a lot easier.

Awesome.

Out of them I am interested in Lily mostly because she came from Vault 17. I hope we learn of Vault 17

"Lily was once a Nightkin in The Master’s army. Before that, she was an elderly grandmother enjoying a simple life in Vault 17. Heavily medicated, Lily struggles with her dangerous schizophrenia and distant memories of her old life."

Also ReX because Cyber-Hound Mk. III. I wanted a robotic Dog like K-9 from FO2.

How do you zoom? Is it something you do with the camera in third person?

Nice.

Sounds pretty useful for third person too.

Yes but how do you zoom or "tap zoom"? Is this a first person mechanic?

:celebration: They look awesome! I'm looking forward to meeting them.

Can we have more than one companion at once? Based on what will they join us?
