Meet the New Vegas Companions

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:17 am

Well that's settled. My non humanoid companion shall be Rex. He just look's so awesome!

Now for a humanoid companion. This is tough cuz they all look so cool.

Arcade, Cass, Boone, and Raul are the top of my list but Veronica sounds cool too. I can't decide!!!!

Maybe Raul cuz he's handy with a gun and he has that repair perk? I dunno. *sigh*

Tap LT like in FO3?

In first person? Is that with an equipped weapon or you can zoom unarmed?

Disappointed that Joshua Graham isn't a companion.
...
If he's in the game and isn't a companion I will still [censored] about it until either a DLC or patch allow me to take him with me or until Fallout 4 comes out.
No, really.

On the others.

Yes! Boone has a nut loose up there! :D I so hope he snaps at some point. If he's a dramaqueen then I'll execute him though.
Raul isn't Enclave Mechanic? Well he just dropped a couple of points in coolness. (Might change when I actually play the game.)
Why the hell is Veronica wearing one of those ugly ass robes from fallout 3? I expected her in a true scribe robe.
Lily seems like a funny person, funny as in laughing at her, not with her.
Cass seems cool.
Arcade seem alright.
Rex... *sigh* another [censored] dog... I hope he can at least talk.
Eddy, so at what power level will this eyebot be? (Modified or not they were easy as hell to kill in fallout 3 so what does this one have? Titanium plates? How the hell does it keep afloat? Shouldn't it be so heavy that it just lies down on the ground?)

It all depends on how they actually are in-game and what their story is.
But as of now I'm kinda  about most of them.

Dogmeat was one of the most popular companions in FO3, not to mention the classics. No surprise we get the option again here. I would be pretty pissed if we hadn't gotten a canine companion.

Rex seems like an interesting twist on it without turning him into one of the soulless and annoying cyberdogs from FO2.

Don't know, didn't play it on a console. You could zoom in the pc version, however. Just clicked the right mouse button.

That's a good way to get shot by NCR troops.

Those scribe robes did not really seem all that practical for wasteland traveling and with the BoS attacks on the NCR its probably not a great idea to broadcast being a scribe

EDIT: too late!

Danny Trejo voicing him is every point of coolness and manliness possible without ANY chance of reducing.

Good point, but that rag still looks ugly as [censored].
We can change our companions outfits right?
Because I'm stealing a scribe robe and putting on her the first thing I do.

So instead they basically threw a carpet, a needle and some thread at her and said "we're giving you 10 minutes then you're off"?

Well he's still the most awesome of them all because of Trejo but he would have been even more awesome if he was the enclave mechanic.

Just be ready to throw down around the NCR to defend her honor once they start pumping her full of lead. ;)

I'm planning on joining up with them last anyway.

Btw, so, Josh, NCR will shoot BOS on sight. Thanks for the info. Well FO3 fans, you loved BOS, you seem to love NCR, now you gotta make a choice. :evil grin:

Well its very possible that she left in a scribe robe and then realized "oops! it turns out the brotherhood aren't viewed as saviors and everybody hates us cause we are trying to destroy their society"

As cool as it would have been I'm not sure it would have worked. Who in their right mind would fill their one humanoid companion slot with the very, very angry man who is just as likely to shoot you in the back as he is to help you? Graham would have been a great companion if you could have had a multi-person party as in Fallout 1/2, but it would have been more practical to pick one of the more stable individuals if he were in New Vegas seeing as how you can only have one humanoid companion. I do hope he plays some sort of role in the game though seeing as how he helped found the Caeser's Legion.

I like it when something unexpected happens. Would have loved Dr Graham even if he were to shoot me for one little mistake in his questline.

im kind of meh on the companions.

to be honest my first reaction was ok they took the most annoying part of Fallout 3, and "improved" them by tacking on the single most annoying type of quest in games (the Escort quest) and then furtherstraqed on "perks", some of which seem questionable at best

Why?

Better Healing – While Arcade is a companion, the player regains more health from all sources. unfortunatly its not to lickly that they would make the game that mutch harder than the base dificulty in FO 3

Spotter – While Boone is a companion, hostile targets are highlighted whenever the player is actively aiming. thus negating the need to glance at the comase for pips, or even look at the screen and see that oh yah, thoes legion types are what you need to shoot at. . .honestly is he suposed to be the companion for morons or something?

Perk: Whiskey Rose – While Cass is a companion, she and the player gain Damage Threshold when they drink Whiskey. Additionally, the player does not suffer intelligence loss from consuming alcohol and ignores the negative effects of alcohol addiction.AKA the companion that requires you to be in a drunken stupor during the more interesting parts of the game. . . I was wondering why MADD annouced a boycott of your game.

Perk: Stealth Girl – While Lily is a companion, the duration of Stealth Boys is increased by 200% and all Sneak Attack Critical Hits do an additional 10% damage.Ok a bat[censored] crazy senial supermutant is going to give stealth bonuses. and if shes even remotly like my experience with Falks (who tended to go bat[censored] crazy when I was trying to stealth) im suspecting that one will end up negating the other realy quickly,

Perk: Regular Maintenance – While Raul is a companion, the Condition of weapons and armor decays 50% slower.ok lets review, you can now get repair kits, surplus weapons can be used to repare weapons, and Weapons decay slower if you raise repair skill which you will be smart to raise just because (A) you cant guarantee this guy will stay alive unless you intend to reload every time he dies and (B) you may not get this companion in the second place. . . can someone explain why decay is even in the game?

Perk: Scribe Assistant – while Veronica is a companion, the player can craft Workbench items through Veronica’s dialogue. ok so now im required to lug around all the other parts that may not be found when I want to make something. . . or I can just fast travel to where my workbench and parts pile is. . . never mind that most playthroughs I just ignored the craft crap.

Perk: Enhanced Sensors – while ED-E is a companion, the player can detect enemies at an increased range. Additionally, enemies will appear on the player’s compass and can be targeted in V.A.T.S. even when cloaked why do I have the sneeking suspicion that this will only realy be needed in one place

Perk: Search and Mark – While Rex is a companion, unequipped chems, firearms, and ammunition within a short distance are highlighted when you zoom the camera. At first I was thinking ok a version of Dogmeats ability that does not result in him going running off through minefeilds or off the map and out of sight resulting in him getting stuck in terain, then I realised that bascialy its searching for things while in zoom mode. . . Im suspecting that in reality it will be faster to just look for things the old fasioned way?

I always wanted an Eyebot companion. In Fallout 3 I typically didn't pick up companions as they totally ruined any hope of being stealthy, and while controlling companions has been improved in New Vegas, I likely still wont pick up any companions right off the bat. Because they all have their own questlines now, I'll probably just wait until I've run out of quests to do before picking up any companions.

No Dogmeat? :( Don't get me wrong, a robot dog is cool and all, but I'd really prefer to atleast have the option of a regular dog. I just don't see myself exploring with a robo-dog. It just doesn't feel the same. Maybe it's a matter of style?

BOS and NCR factions are still actively hostile against each other and factions shoot at you if you are wearing opposing faction garb, hmmmmmm, fascinating... ;)

Also, I'm willing to bet that Rex's companion side quest involves saving his brain. That and based on his dual colored brain, it looks like about half of that gray matter is already brain dead... O.o

I understand where you're coming from. A couple of metal parts attached together and programmed to be a good dog just can't really compete with a true flesh and blood furry companion, even if he is made out of polygons.

If Rex doesn't talk though and acts more like a real dog than a robot, I'm definitely going to give him a shot. I think I would just feel naked walking around the wasteland without a small four legged sidekick with creepy near constant breathing behind me.
