Do you guys like Agalloch? Just got their album The Mantle and it's really good, can't say I'm too much of a fan of the vocals but I still really like it.
Any specific song we should look for?

Not my cup of tea. There's nothing wrong with the beginning, but it just doesn't get enough tempo and depth to it later on either, especially with the vocals.

I like most of their stuff I've heard so far (including that song you posted). A good blend of black and doom elements. I don't think the vocals are any bad though.

I found out about them a while back from a random advert, or this thread, or something, I can't remember - anyway yeah they're pretty good, if occasionally repetitive... You know you can download their album for free?

Nah, I wasn't aware they had a legal download of it. I've been trying to acquire the tape version of it but it's sold out. I did just buy their split with Pilgrim a few days back, though.

Best black metal song ever http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhC0cKqHFOs&feature=related

(I'm being sarcastic, I realise it's meant to be silly)

More seriously can't believe I've only just heard of this album by Tank http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4N6juesxTw&feature=related, amazing.

Some classic Tank for those that like NWOBHM style of metal - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8XDIDjTNFY&feature=related

Well, he`s releasing consistently good material. I`d have no reason not to give his next a listen.

Although I`d wish he`d add just a few instrumentals here and there. I miss them.

But yeah I'll still listen.. It's friggin Burzum dognabbit. I also miss the intrumentals :(

To the above post. That intro was cool (:o) ... They've definitely got some snakey riffs from time to time. I have a hard time hearing the words masterpiece and Lamb of Gos in the same sentence though heheh

As long as you love the vocals, King me is a masterpiece :D I mean, you can't possibly like it if you don't like the vocals. (but I do)

Their whole album Resolution seems very good. One of their best, if not the best.

Yup.
Although it needs more than 240p to attain its full effect...

That's enough to get me excited.
And I like how he finally dares to venture into paganism again. How he retracted this "The White God" title was massively lame.

The musical idea behind it doesn't appear to be too bad and I enjoyed the majority of the riffs. However, I wasn't too fond of the vocals, the attempt at a solo was a total failure - don't add one in black metal if you don't pull it off properly - and the bridge should be rewritten imo.

Well its just a demo and I think the band is very promising overall. The vocals I like. But thats just me, I know some guys who think its terrible. Anyway, great to actually get a reply which doesnt normally happen from my experience on not-about-music sites. Heres another one I like.

It's Swedish? It's symphonic? Oh noes, double disaster!
I just felt obliged to say this.

More seriously, I didn't know them and that's some pretty decent work there. If this is the general style and level of the music you listen to, you and I are going to be good pals here.
Just don't double post, otherwise I'll fling my Mj?lner at you. But that post contains another great song to be honest.
*sigh* STOP IT!

You didn't expect replies to that in a metal thread, really?
To be honest, I like the attitude and taste of the people here better than on most of the (black) metal boards I've frequented so far.

I don't think I was that harsh on that demo, they should really improve it before they make a real full length out of it. Writing music is also about recognising when there's room for improvement and when you should discard material. I find it very noticeable when bands release songs that shouldn't have made it on the final release at all. And some just appear to get lazier all the time. I think I've discarded about 4/5 or quite possibly even more of the stuff I've written myself.

Be as harsh as you desire. The first one is indeed sloppy and amateurish and I do not know if I will still like them a month from now.

I only mean that these sorts of threads are usually full of links (bad ones too) and no conversation. Good to see this one works differently. Methinks I will be frequenting it.

Will remember the edit button in the future.

Do so if you wish. We're a bunch of friendly, like-minded souls. M?rker is a band I'll keep in mind so thanks for that.

Eh, what you mention there about a lack of conversation happens here too sometimes, although not too often at all. Like I said, this is one of the best places to discuss metal I've come across lately. I've even learnt about some of my favourite releases here I would have missed otherwise.

I feel like sharing some more of Sólstafir's Svartir Sandar. Here's Djákninn. It's the second disc Gola's closer.

Favourite riff after 04:38. It swings. It makes me think of '70s psychedelic hard rock.

Great! Noticed it.
Aha, what have we here, another bunch of Poles. That track is AAAAAAAAWESOME. That's my kind of black metal. Superrepetitive too.
Strange I didn't know them. I do recall Kriegsmaschine and these are the same fellows. I'm going to order this.

Good night then.

That wasn't shabby indeed. I'm equally glad you enjoyed mine.

If you really like Sólstafir and feel like discovering more (which you should, it ended up 3rd in my personal 2011 top 20), check out these songs:
Fjara
Ljós í Stormi
Melrakkablús
?ra
Sjúki Skugginn
Tín Ore
Kukl (for something that's seriously non-metal and dreamy)
Svartir Sandar

And off their previous release K?ld:
Love Is the Devil

That Svafnir of yours demands to be further explored. I think listening to the album as a whole may deliver a better experience than the songs seperately.
I like how the vocals aren't quite deep or high enough to be categorised as death or black metal vocals.
On the other hand, listen to this and you'll have to acknowledge with utter modesty that you'll never have a girl that'll scream like this (Helheim's Jormundgand).
