[WIPZ] Midas Magic for Skyrim

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 10:12 am

I've seen a number of requests for Mark/Recall and Midas Chest. Some of the "must haves" in Oblivion. I do want to do both of these differently this time so I thought I'd post the idea here and see what you think. First, Mark/Recall was a bit confusing in Midas (My fault) and slightly cumbersome. I plan to center the story, or at least start it around Midas' abandoned "Dwemer Tardis" but the idea is that you can travel inside it to places you have marked and summon it under certain conditions. As the story progresses, different rooms and abilities can be unlocked in it.

As for the Chest spell. I plan to replace it with a "Conjure Luggage" spell. Think Color of Magic. If you haven't read/seen it, it will be a mechanical conjuration that has some basic combat abilities and can carry loot.

If you're redoing mark/recall, can you take a look at some of the excellent mark/recall scripts available for Morrowind? There was one in particular that had a menu that allowed arbitrary #s of mark points, auto-naming and manual renaming of mark points, companion support, and a number of other extremely useful features. Can't find the link right now, but will try.

PS think it's this one: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8153

Ambitious and unknown if even doable with SKSE, but it's worth investigating.

I enjoy Midas Magic alot but there was always one thing that bugged me, I asked you about it a very long time ago, im sure others might of too, and that was the ability for all these awesome new spells to be used by current NPCs in the game. Im not entirely sure why it wasnt possible (Might of changed in the newer releases of Midas Magic)

But that would be my number 1 pet peeve so to speak. I mean comon, how awesome would it be for high level mages (named or just high level) casting some of those destructive spells.

I'd love a shield spell that I can cast not just over myself but over any companions currently in follow mode all at once.

Skyrim could also benefit from an enchanced, more combat-oriented telekinesis. It may come in two variaties:
1) on-target: point towards an object and you can retrieve it, then point towards an enemy and the object will be thrown at him. Depending on the weight of the object the enemy can be staggered/knocked down. Damage dealt could also depend on weight.
2) AOE-telekinesis: upon casting it, the spell checks if there are any throwable objects and enemies within its radius. If they exist, then each object is automatically thrown at the closest enemy.

Continuing on the idea that "more summons are needed" I had the following thought: what if, instead of creating x additional summons, you design a spell that traps the dead body of any creature inside of a dimensional pocket or magical container? Then, by using the spell again, the last trapped creature could be called back and it would fight for you as long as you have his soul also in your power (by using a soul gem). If the creature is defeated in combat, then the soul gem is destroyed and the body cannot be reused.
Uuuuuuhh
Those would be sweeeet... :goodjob:

I absolutely loved the "Summon Balrog" spell and quest in the OB mod, and since the world is much more LOTR scenery this time around, id love to see that again!

Would be nice to have a few more "elements" in the destruction school with unique proprieties that would make dual wielding different offensive magic's interesting

Air: Utility destruction element
push attacks like the shout with a low % chance to stagger, concentration spell [flames/sparks] that holds the enemy in the air
Rune is basically an enemy launcher

Light: bonus damage against "evil" [deadra, undead vampires etc]
magic's version of lasers

Dark: big Bonus damage against good [animals, town guards] , small bonus against neutral [towns people]
aoe and dot based [all spells have the same effect as the "walls" spells]

Water: Also utility, causes targets afflicted with it to take extra damage from shock and gives a % chance to freeze [ice form] with ice attacks

Would be nice to see some concentration spells that fire streams of bolts [fire/ice spikes] instead of just cones of damage...almost a magic machine gun.

Also some sort of homing magic...probably a creature that you can summon..higher levels allow you to maintain a larger number of them floating round you

Oh, wait, another suggestion, though this one would require some scripting.

Spells that add an OnHit damage bonus to your fists, something to make Hand to Hand more viable, hopefully viable enough without needing to get the Fists of Steel perk.

WOW. I'm very happy to know that there will be new refreshed Skyrim version of Mida Magic!

I very much liked the 'missile' kind of spell: you had to aim and guess the path of the landing missiles. I also loved all the visual effects that spells were bringing in the since Oblivion did not had a lot of variety. The runic ones made me believe that my caracter was a powerfull mage.
I would see a telekinesis spell that allow you to crush opponents against the walls.
Another thing that was making it is the way you had to create the spells by mixing differents objects and eat the magic residue.

For now, I think just porting the exact product to Skyrim would be outstanding...

idk if anyone has said it yet..but make ward spells not svck please. I'm playing a one handed + alteration + restoration hybrid mage-fighter and I was originally looking forward to using wards like a interesting off-hand block mechanic..but right now they svck b/c of the rediculous mana drain. I have these cool wards but its always more efficient to just let myself get shocked/frozen/burned then cast a heal spell. Frost is especially funny, b/c it damages my stamina..but then I heal my stamina...

I would like the wards to be able to shoot out a blast of air or something after absorbing enough damage..like unrelenting force...idk..something to make the wards interesting..and thus making the restoration field more interesting and intense than just spamming heals.

Very much enjoyed it for Oblivion, overjoyed you are going to do it again for Skyrim, thanks.

I had my favorites of course, and whatever you come up with will be amazing. But some that I think were useful were the ones that got rid of corpses. The one that changed one into a bunch of coins was very useful for that, and I did notice quite a few corpses strewn about Skyrim that were still there days and days afterwards. Something, if not necessarily the one that changes/transmutes them into a bunch of coins, to get rid of corpses would be very useful I think.

I really enjoyed creating Midas Magic Spells of Aurum for Oblivion and have been playing Skyrim. The Magic system is much more dynamic and interesting for sure. But, there's always room for mods and improvements :). Give me your thoughts on whether or not you'd like to see Midas for Oblivion. Which spells should I release first? What improvements should I make over the Oblivion mod? Or course we'll have to wait and see what the Creation Kit lets us do, and the no spellcrafting has me a bit worried but time will tell.

Hello all,
Xilver

Well I'm just SUPER excited you're interested in Skyrim spell development!!!! your work in Oblivion was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I have faith in your choices and magic effects.. therefor I have a small "wish list" :)

-Some sort of featherfall/levitation
-Portal spell something like old "diablos portals" same basic concept, however updated graphics and sound etc.. would be amazing to see and walk though!! :)
-Few master level "ultimate spells" for each element ie: for ice something like a "Ice comet" or "Finger of god" Lightning Strike with epic effects and power
-Darker/Evil spell effects such as Black smoke at the feet of a caster with skulls/and electricity, really tap into the necromancer side of spells if you could...
-Root/snare type of spells with vines coming out of the ground holding a target in place etc..

I cant wait to see what you're going to do... very excited!!!

I'm sure most of us have used and enjoyed your fine Midas Magic mod and I, for one would really enjoy some creative spells in Skyrim.

I would like to see some multi task spells. i.e. ones that would combine restore Magicka, restore health, with an AOE like soul trap, absorb magicka, etc. Ideally, these spells could be constructed to your personal taste, like we had during Spellmaking. (I do miss that!)

Summon creatures from Oblivion to fight for you.

Many thanks for your fine mod and I'll look forward to more in the future.

Hello all,
Xilver
I'm already drooling at the idea. Midas was probably my one most favorite mod for Oblivion and I never even played a fully mage character. Gold is already more plentiful in Skyrim than OB with the many mines all over the map, and NPCs that actually carry a restocking supply of the stuff. I loved the beam spells. But anything you can bring into Skyrim I'm sure would be awesome.

How about:

Darkness
Either making an area absent of light, creating a sort of shroud effect(similar to the black fog I've seen in certain undead areas and the smoke emitted when using the shadow warrior perk). Making all who enter the area blind. Expect for the caster.
OR simply making the target blind, perhaps just wrapping the targets head/body in black smoke.
This could give you a 100% of a sneak/critical hit.

I always liked the more subtle spells of midas magic myself. Such as the spell for freezing time (And thusly projectiles and would be attackers) in a small region, or creating a zone of nebulous darkness to provide visual concealment in an otherwise exposed location. I forget their names but you know the ones ;)
^this

Extinguish
This spell could be used to extinguish lights, either temporary or permanently. Again could have that same effect put on the light source(black smoke). This is assuming we'd be able to mess with light sources like that in game. I know there are certain torches that can be extinguished by activating them, but I'm guessing that that would not be doable to all light sources unless already set up that way.

Both spells could be the same spell and the effect would change depending on what your target is.

Turn a dragon into gold coins. How many coins would that be anyway?

Oh god yes, I loved your magic mod so much.

I'd love to see more variety in destruction magic spells: Maybe reintroduce touch spells, and just have spells that do different things other than "This is the bolt attack and this is the stream attack"

A spell I'd really love to see is one that heats up enemies weapons and makes them drop them (So, like the disarm dragon shout, but a magic spell instead of a shout. And it could make weapons glow red or something).

Edit: Also how about a damn cure disease spell? I find it very odd that there isn't a medium-high-level restoration spell that does that. Oh, and telekinetic powers are always cool (like weak FUS RO DAH that emanates in all directions or something)

Companion/NPC LOCATE and/or RECALL

This would be a spell that requires a ring to accompany it.

The player gives the ring to their companion (or can give it to anyone via pickpocket).

Casting LOCATE will mark the map with the location of the person carrying the ring.

Casting RECALL will teleport the player to the NPC/Companion carrying the ring.

Oh, maybe touch spells could have 2x sneak attack bonus damage in order to make sneaking mage more viable/interesting.

Also, if cloak spells could be made to scale. And if Mage Armor spells actually had a visual effect that reflected the spell (skin turns to stone or something other than just "shiny wet character"). Another idea is that you could make the mage armor spells just remove a certain portion of mana and make it unavailable, like in Dragon Age, but the armor spell remains active until you cast it again. So say it costs 100 mana, you would cast it and it would just reduce your max mana by 100 and stay active until you cast it again.

Also, combining spells is always fun.

And I don't know if the teleport spell that NPC mages use all the time is available to players already, but that would be awesome to have. It would really open up a new playstyle of dancing around the battlefield though short-range teleportations.

I'm a huge fan of the spell that causes corpses to explode in a shower of gold coins, both because it keeps the place clean and because I love scooping up huge mounds of gold coins.

i do hope u make it, battle mages need spells to temp enchant weapons so they dont have to just have a single element on a weapon u could just enchant before battle, also some area of effect spells would be awesome, kinda like runes but with u in the middle like 360 degree push or explosion.

also craftable staffs and unique spells for them (theres already a mod to craft already enchanted staffs but there isnt one that lets u craft an unenchanted staff to add ur own spell to it, that would make my game more inversive)
