[RELz]Midas Magic - Spells for Skyrim

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 1:33 pm

I have some more ideas.

Midas Arcane Tanning
Midas Arcane Forge
Midas Arcane Kitchen (cooking)
Midas Arcane Alchemy Bench
Midas Arcane Enchanter
Midas Arcane Smelter
Midas Arcane Grindstone
Midas Arcane Workbench

Basically they all summon an apparatus in front of you which has the same visual effects of a bound weapon (appears to be there, but at the same time isn't) which you can use to do your enchanting/smelting/cooking/forging on the spot. Disappears if you wander too far from it.

Because seriously how often have we grumbled when we've wanted to do some roasting/alchemy/enchanting/tanning/smelting (ESPECIALLY SMELTING)/Weapon or Armor Improvements, only to find that the nearest apparatus is days away? Especially with smelting and just how damn rare they are (No smelter in Solitude? Gods, no wonder the imperials are losing the war!)

New Release

0.06 http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3413

Added some of the basics that were requested frequently.

Midas Mass Reanimate
Midas Resurrect
Midas Open Lock (5 levels)
Midas Haste
Midas Feather
Midas Imagine Sabercat

I think I found the problem with the Reactor as well. It's the old autosave problem from oblivion. When entering areas with modded content, the game may crash. I'm recommending turning off "Save on Travel" for now.

Enjoy

Absolutely brilliant! The Mass Reanimate is a beast! A very fitting master spell for a conjurer! I had an entire band of wolves and vampires following me! Also, resurrect has been sorely needed, so thank you :)

Curious, but what is the sudden obsession with "lore friendly" mods? When I was making mods, people didn't really care. Now it seems like you can't find a mod thread without this term...
Far from sudden. Most big and popular mods are always lore friendly. People like lore friendly stuff because it merges into their game better for immersion.

I don't want a "star wars" mod because that would ruin the elder scrolls feel. So lore friendly stuff is typically good. Lore is like a cult following if you will. The longer you play ES games I think the more you begin to appreciate the lore.

Here's a couple of random ideas for you:

- A conical barrage of ice spikes (basically the ice spell from Magicka) - could work for any element or effect, but the ice seems like the most fun
- A fairly short-ranged, wide blast of tiny ice spikes - doesn't do a lot of damage, but can slow + stagger a group of enemies so you can get some distance
- Disguise as Bush - illusion spell, does what it says on the tin. Assuming nobody watches you do it, you don't get noticed until you de-bushify yourself.
- Conjure Flying Mammoth - sadly, you only get a regular mammoth, but it shows up a few hundred feet above your target. There is probably a way to make this do huge damage on impact.

Yay!! Thanks Gstaff!

What's really disappointing regarding lore, is that had I known more about it Midas for Oblivion could have had nearly all it's content and aligned alot better with the lore. For instance, the extra-planar travel in Midas Magic took place through the "astral plane". This time, I plan to have ways to travel to undiscovered or obscure planes in oblivion and the Aetherius http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Aetherius. I plan to reuse and bring back ideas all the way back to Arena :)

Fully agree! I always loved everything that had to do with different planes, so this sounds amazing. I always wished you could have your own "paradise", like the one of Mankar Camoran, a peaceful place to escape the world and all of its hustle and bustle.

Offhand, there's a realm of undead near Nocturnal's realm, and the Necromancer's Moon is the domain of Mannimarco. Midas entering any of those realms could work.

I do have a suggestion though: why not let Midas help translate whatever spellbook you get as a reward? Otherwise, you'd have to explain how the x book of y realm given to you by the Grand Poobah of z has all its spells named after Midas.

@LordofBones, good question. I don't want to spoil too much but the quest line this time will follow in the footsteps of Midas. To ultimately find out what became of him. Not unlike the adventure of Morian Zenas, Midas Aurumius left Mundus to explore and study other planes. He will leave behind a papertrail of spells and his personal notes in his travels. I think you'll get a kick out of the means left behind to travel with. That's my plan anyway.

xilver I have an idea of the familiar spell. Instead of summoning a ghost wolf only, it would summon a random unit. It could be any monster or humanoid. It would be a permament pet and it would be bound to you. This summon, will not be as a regular summon. More like a companion that can't die. And to summon the familiar, it should not be from learning in a book. In other words, I think that it could be part of a quest or something. Just a thought though. :) Tell me what you think of it.

In every game I've played, familiars are more-or-less companions (in the sense of being a pet or another pair of eyes and ears) which may provide certain fringe benefits to their masters.

@LordofBones Yeah, benefits would be nice as well. You mean like if you have a storm/fire/frost atronach, each of them will give you a specific bonus. For example the flame atronach could give you a boost in fire resistance, etc?

I was looking through the mod on SkyEdit, and it looks like most of them don't have descriptions. Are you planning on adding them, Xilver?

Keep in mind that most spells derive their descriptions from their Magic Effects. In-game I think all spells have a description.

Mods can't be released on consoles, Microsoft and Sony don't allow it.

Beth could make deals with the most popular mod authors and package them all as official dlc to console users.
