Yep many talented modders or mod teams got hired by major video game development companies Arkane Studios, Bethesda, Epic Games, Obsidian, and Valve are some of the ones I know that hire if a mod becomes very well known and downloaded.

Um it makes it easier for modders to make mods or total conversion mods if they have some type of mod tools like Source (Software) Development Kit (SDK) if you get a video game without any of those for some modders it is extremely hard to make mods without mod tools they would have to use some kind of 3rd party tools such as TexMod which some modders use for Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3 I don't know yet.

Ok so you said this Where did this idea come from that a game requires developer-provided mod tools to have mods? :/ so why in the second part did you say I'm a Sims player/modder, and the Sims mod community has flourished with mod tools entirely produced by and for the modders you just said you use mod tools your self for The Sims or unless you meant to say you download mods off various mod websites and install them?

And of course as I said mod tools made by talented programmers in the mod community using 3rd party mod tools some make it easy some make it hard like I said in my first sentence TexMod lets you make mods for Mass Effect as it has no mod tools but it is extremely hard to make for modders since BioWare didn't release any :/.

Same thing goes for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim modders were able to make mods before it was released but it was extremely difficult for C, C++ coders to get actual stand alone items into The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim itself it was not easy.

If Arkane Studios does not release mod tools of any type then modders might use TexMod since Dishonored runs on Unreal Engine 3 and TexMod works for Unreal Engine 3 just much more difficult I hope Arkane Studios releases us a Source (Software) Development Kit (SDK) soon not to mention mods create jobs for talented modders or talented programmers who make good mods or mod teams.

That's what TexMod basically is a revers engineering type of mod tool I think.

You are correct mods make video games sales increase and go through the roof just look at ArmA II 1,000,000 people subscribed to DayZ because of it and it has been the top selling video game on Steam for 3 months I think maybe more.

On the more interesting quesiton of "should there be mods"? I have to say "of course". Play it once as the devs intended, but if you're gonna keep playing, you should be able to play how you want. The only time that should even be an issue is in the case of competitive games where you have to worry about a level playing field; for a single-player game, it's a no-brainer.

Here is some stuff to read about TexMod for Mass Effect. Read in the descriptions info what the modder says. If you have Mass Effect or Mass Effect 2 download TexMod and the mods and give it a try.

http://www.moddb.com/games/mass-effect-2/addons/garrus-high-resolution-texture-mod

Scroll down to Description and read it this is what it says.

This is a 4096x4096 texture mod for Garrus in Mass Effect 2. It requires Texmod to run, as Mass Effect 2 is not mod-friendly.

http://www.moddb.com/games/mass-effect-2/addons/jean-luc
http://www.moddb.com/games/mass-effect-2/addons/red-garrus1

In this one people are confused how to install the mods using TexMod.

http://www.moddb.com/games/mass-effect-2/addons/mass-effect-2-miranda-pack

Other types of mods don't say anything about TexMod meaning you just install them in the video games directory folder or where ever.

http://www.moddb.com/games/mass-effect-2 browse through the downloads, addons, and mods sections look for what you like.

I'm not getting my hopes up since this is a multi-platform game, but imagine if we could design our own maps with a mod kit. Awesome.

Sorry for the late comment been busy for 2 days.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a multi-platform video game and it still gets a mod tool called the Creation Kit on PC.

Dishonored runs on Unreal Engine 3 which also comes with Unreal Development Kit (UDK) which is a type of Source (Software) Development Kit (SDK) or mod tool if you want to call it that it just doesn't come with full Source Code unless you get Unreal Engine 3's licensing fee.

I am pretty sure Arkane Studios has the resources set up all they need to do is clean up code and talk to Epic Games about licensing fees to get it rolling I talked to Sarkyl a couple of months back in a private message and that's what he sent me back.

Bethesda Softworks and Arkane Studios please release mod tools for the PC version of Dishonored like actual mod tools that let modders create skins, textures, meshes, total conversion mods, missions/campaigns/quests, change/improve the graphics, and the last one ability to create levels/maps give us a level/map editor I would prefer the best one of all of them Source (Software) Development Kit (SDK) with full Source Code or in this case since Dishonored runs on Unreal Engine 3 Unreal Development Kit (UDK).

I was looking at various mod sites and i found this mod and here is what it does.

http://www.modsaholic.com/forums/index.php?/files/file/146-dismemberment-mod/
  • After fighting 30 guys in a corridor you expect to see bodies piled up to the roof. Now you do.
  • Max dead body count raised to 60
  • Gun bullets can destroy and rip off limbs
  • Gun blast can rip off limbs
  • Slightly reduced the chance of guns destroying limbs
  • Crossbows rip off arms and legs (Sometimes pins them to a wall as well)
  • Explosives blast enemys apart
  • Your sword fast swing is far more likely to sever limbs
  • Windblast can tear off limbs
  • Guards glance longer
  • You can't lean quiet as far. (Corvo used to lean 60 degrees around corners without being seen)
I know it is changed in the video games ini files anyone can do this but me as I support modders I would really like to have mod tools released.

Sarkayel told me in a private message they can get this to happen all they need to do is talk to Epic Games and clean up code (As in Source Code and bugs).

I really hope someone from Bethesda Softworks and Arkane Studios releases mod tools for us I wouldn't mind waiting another 5 months I just want one to be released :/.

Remember mods can have the possibility to create jobs for modders /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />.

So now that the last DLC released for Dishonored can Bethesda Softworks and Arkane Studios release mod tools for the PC version of Dishonored? I really want to make mods for this video game. There are already a few mods for Dishonored but not a lot and the modders had to use 3rd party software to make them which is no easy task when you don't have official mod tools provided from the video game developer themselves.

Arkane Studios please :/ talk with Epic Games clean up some code.
