Who wouldn't want mod tools that's a modder?

And those that wouldn't want them, probably don't because they aren't modders.

That gave me a Parappa the Rappa and Master Onion vibe, even though I've never played a Parappa game

I mod a lot, I don't want them because it's redundant even though I adore the art style and design. And if they are going for it let 'em do it after the game is released.

I feel that that would be fine. As long as they are released sometime, I will be happy.

Haha, that wasn't even me. :3 Honestly I was surprised as hell when I came in here and saw somebody with a Doctor Steel avatar. Makes me sad he's not around anymore.

Just like pvouholo said I don't know how much they really have to pay to be on the workshop though. Dungeons of Dredmor has Workshop support and that's a fairly niche game from a small indie developer.

But maybe it depends on the size of the mods expected to be posted on there. Dredmor's mods are really small filesize-wise (< 1 MB) so that's nothing compared to the traffic the workshop gets from Skyrim mods on there.

Then what Ambugaton said A fan mission editor for a truly ambitious game like this one would be absolutely wonderful. A genuine AAA stealth game coming out these days is rare enough as it is, and we're getting an even rarer 1st person stealth game.

Just look at all the hundreds if not thousands of hours worth of Thief fan missions that have been created over the years using DromEd. Many of these are as good or even better than the original missions. People are still making them 12 years after the release of Thief 2.

Plus, the best Dishonored fan mission authors would end up with job opportunities in the game industry, possibly even at Arkane. There was an extremely high quality fan mission series for Thief 2 called Calendra's Legacy that came out not long after the release Thief 2. The second mission in the series, Midnight at Murkbell, is probably my single favorite Thief mission ever. I'm pretty sure the guy that made it works at Arkane now.

Then Sarakyel confirming Ambugaton comment fact is if all the games came with mod tools Source Development Kit (SDK) and map/level editors what ever you want to call it it can create opportunities for people out there to put their skills and talents to the test and possibly get hired by a game developer yes I agree Dishonored should be released first and be polished and have all the bugs and glitches fixed after that a Source Development Kit (SDK) needs to be released not releasing one is just sad.

That's what happened with some of the modders using Garry's Mod. Now they are Valve employees. Nobody is arguing whether or not a Development Kit is good or not. We already know it does wonders, I just don't wanto delay the already small development time given to them. Don't rush this is all I am saying.

There is no plan to release any kind of editor or SDK right now.

Don't get me wrong: I don't say it won't happen, I just say there's nothing planned at the moment, which means that nothing will be available for the release date.

That's good news Sarakyel just take your time developing the game making sure it is polished with all the bugs and glitches fixed no need to hurry up and release editors and (SDK)'s upon release we can wait for that to come out later /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />.

Thanks for the update, Sarakyel. Not too worried about not having at release, that's fairly normal. But we do want to apply as much fan pressure as we can to get the powers that be to consider releasing one eventually. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I'm sure there are plenty of people at Arkane and Bethesda who's careers would look a lot different if it weren't for SDKs releases with the games they played...

That's the same thing that Eidos Montreal said about Deus Ex. So unless Arkane wants to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they're a more caring developer than EM, to me that means we won't get one.

The publisher would ultimately make that call, but we know Bethesda is VERY mod friendly, so I would hope that it wouldn't be too hard to talk them into it.

the problem with mod tools for Dishonored is that i'm fairly certain publishers/developers require a specific license to be allowed to release mod tools for UE3 games. it's not as simple as just going "oh okay it looks like enough people want it, let's toss one out" - they'd straight up have to pay more money to permit it.

this was one of the biggest reasons Mirror's Edge never got mod tools, despite being released at a time when EA was not in fact unequivocally [censored].

i'm totally for fan campaigns and [censored], it'd be great to see something on the level of Thief 2x or Ponterbee Station or something keeping Dishonored alive years after its release, but going into anything expecting mod tools is a mistake.

Wow, I am shocked. Somebody actually said something smart.

Also: https://twitter.com/Harvey1966 Is the team thinking of adding modding tools?https://twitter.com/StrifeCross we'd love that but i don't think it's possible for us.

Just FYI before you all start cheering.

Um I don't think the publishers/developers require a specific license to be allowed to release mod tools for Unreal Engine 3 games because they are already licensing Unreal Engine 3 to develop Dishonored on it Epic Games gives you the engine for free until you make $50,000 I don't think they need to pay more to permit it maybe Sarakyel can confirm this if it's true or not?

This is the same thing as the Steam Film maker. You can do what you want with it for free, but you can't make money off of it and you don't have any of Valve's assets. At least I think it worked like that.

No, you can't make any money off of it if you use any of Valve's assets. You can do whatever you want with it if you don't use any Valve assets, and you can use Valve's assets if you don't make money off them.
/frown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> I would throw money at the screen, but I don't think anything would happen.

A lot of people seem to be saying it would be bad to waste development time on making mod tools. Obviously if it would take time away that's needed for the basic game development then that's not good, but post release when there's only patching to do then creating mod tools for us to use to really expand upon the fantastic game the devs have made is really good for the community.

So I would absolutely love mod tools to be released for Dishonored, and with this sort of game there are so many possibilities that could be created.
