Mod tools for PC version should come to Dishonored

Post » Wed Aug 14, 2013 8:08 pm

i'm going by UE3 license rules circa 2008, i don't know if they've changed anything since then. all i know is the license stuff is the big reason why Mirror's Edge never had mod tools, so if that's still in effect it's very much a detriment to Dishonored ever having (formal) mod tools.

if it's not though then it's up to Arkane/Bethesda i guess. certainly they'd be a nice thing to have eventually, but it's not something they should really give priority to before the game is even done.

You're a good man. Like I always say, I am NOT AGAINST the developers implementing anything that other people want (well I am but if it's a step towards progress I will swallow my pride and will support it) but only if that thing does not take away from development time. So basically implement a game within a game within a game in Dishonored, after release and I won't mind it and it won't hinder the final product's quality.

I agree I am not saying they should release mod tools or even better Source Development Kit (SDK) like right now after they release Dishonored all polished with all the bugs and glitches fixed then they can release mod tools I want a Source Development Kit (SDK) though it is much better.

Just like povuholo said I don't know how much they really have to pay to be on the workshop though. Dungeons of Dredmor has Workshop support and that's a fairly niche game from a small indie developer.

But maybe it depends on the size of the mods expected to be posted on there. Dredmor's mods are really small filesize-wise (< 1 MB) so that's nothing compared to the traffic the workshop gets from Skyrim mods on there.

I don't think they have to pay much to get Dishonored integrated with Steam Workshop Dungeons of Dredmor is a small Indie Development game company also sorry for this late comment I am very busy.

I still don't see Dishonored on there. The games that are on there are based a lot on items and Dishonored isn't. You have your set of gadgets, weapons and clothing that have been cleverly designed by the art team in order to fit with the world. Not saying people can't create anything similar (though it most certainly will be inferior in almost all cases) just saying the game doesn't fit the model. And aren't you asking for too much from a new IP? Am I the only one who is more than glad with every choice Arkane has made thus far (apart from the release date and the pre-order bonuses but that's Bethesda's doing)? Just be happy with everything we're getting and a new game will come that will actually complete most of its fanbase's demands.

You don't see Dishonored on there because the game is not released yet and only time will tell if Arkane Studios will come to an agreement with Valve and pay a certain amount of money to have Dishonored integrated with Steam Workshop we just have to wait and see what happens or if any information will be said about it.

So just because a game uses Steamworks is should be featured on the Steam Workshop? And what exactly will you make on there?

Too soon. Well it's hard to place it at a time where nothing of interest comes out.

And i believe/hope that Arkane will have a finished product by that time.

I won't make any mods because I either svck at it or don't know how to make good mods I can make simple mods like how The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Construction Set, Creation Kit and Fallout: 3 and Fallout: New Vegas had just launch the mod tool click the main .esm file and put items where ever in the land or inside buildings you want and make them respawn or not that is all I know how to do I don't know how to model and put new items or change textures just the simple things same goes for any game that runs on Unreal Engine that comes with a Source Development Kit (SDK) I will just download a bunch of mods from people.

There is no plan to release any kind of editor or SDK right now.

Don't get me wrong: I don't say it won't happen, I just say there's nothing planned at the moment, which means that nothing will be available for the release date.

So stop arguing with me I want mod tools I want a Source Development Kit (SDK) and many others do stop insulting the PC gamers that want them and stop arguing with me about this yes I agree I want the game released first all polished up and with all the bugs and glitches fixed please stop annoying the PC gamers that want it I don't care if you want it or not let there be the option for the PC gamers that want it to use it and the ones that don't want it don't have to use it mod tools Source Development Kit (SDK) is also what makes PC gaming great and does wonders you are making me very upset because you don't want mod tools Source Development Kit (SDK) for the game I am fed up with people like you just please accept it if you don't make mods don't use it but let modders who want to show their skills and talents and the people that want to download their mods have it at least.

First of all I am indifferent if there are or aren't added.

Second, there is no reason to add mod tools to this particular game. Just because it's a PC game doesn't justify it. Why not start these topics on every forums chanting "WE WANT MOD TOOLS!".

Gamers aren't entiteled to anything. Saying you want something won't get you anywhere. And it seems to me that you have missed the most vital points of my arguments. If you didn't you'd know I have nothing against mod tools. I am simply explaining why it won't happen.

Harvey just confirmed there will be no Steam Workshop for Dishonored.

Ok there might be no Steam Workshop but a Source Development Kit (SDK) can come at least.

It could. Then again it is a new IP and I think that all of us are asking to much out of it. Just be happy it's being made and if it turns out to be a great game be happy for that too.

Too bad there isn't gonna be a bright side for me if I stay on these forums. And nothing is set in stone they can still delay the release date or even remove members of the team. Which in my opinion would be a tragedy and everything should stay the way it is because it's more structured that way. Let's hope for the best and see if the game is great, good or meh.

I doubt it will get delayed, as we are quite close to release, but I won't jinx it.

I want it to be great. That's all I want. Although the things that I love about the game are not the gameplay elements. Funny how that works. Probably because I am used to demand quality from my games and am too spoiled.
