Patch 1.4.19.0.4 is available!

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 10:34 am

Just as I thought -probably the patch works only if you start a new game.

Thought that might be the case. After 140 hours or so, sod that. I'll wait until the DLCs are all out and start over then. Hopefully everything else gets patched by then too.

. Its like getting penalized for playing an open world game.

Yes, Bethesda sold the game on being able to follow questlines or just go around exploring, or some combination thereof, but it seems what most commonly breaks quests is exploring an area on your own before you get a quest to go there.

This realization forced me to change my play style to try to do all the quests first before doing further exploration.

Having to read wikis before doing things and follow quests rather than natural exploration (all to prevent bugs) made me feel like I'm playing a game, instead of being immersed in the world of Nirn.

Did it affect your save game size after you installed the patch?
Thanks.
If you stand inside your house and let the game run for 10 hours and then save, your savegame size will decrease significantly.

I do that all the time, no broken quests from doing that yet. I am careful what I loot from trunks though. If it looks like a quest item (i.e. "Broken Amulet", "Little Fry's Sword of Flames") I leave the item alone, if it looks like a general item, i'll take it. I've emptied out entire area's before gettting a quest for them... i.e. like the cave the headsman sends you to, ug broken oar grotto or something like that... i've cleared that out before getting his quest, as well as the other side quest that takes you there, and no problems with them breaking.... i will note though, on both missions, the one your to kill isn't there unless the quest has started, but all the counterparts are. i've found over 200 areas exploring on the map, clearing them out as I find them, but all still seems to be going ok for me in that aspect.. lucky i guess?

10 hours real-time. I literally mean loading up your game, standing in your house, and then letting your character just stand there while your at work/school.

Can anyone tell me if it's sorted the Markarth guard issue and/or the Waking Nightmare quest bug? ... it's the last part of my last Skyrim achievement and I love the Daedra quests :'(

It fixed it for me. I entered Markarth, paid my fine and was able to carry on like normal.

I haven't downloaed the patch yet. I have went back to playing Oblivion right now, so i am going to take a wait and see approach. I never install patches right away because as it stands Bethesda has a history of breking more then they fix with their patches....and i am going to err on the side of caution...1.3 ran fine for me....so if its not broke don't fix it...right now 1.3 is acceptable for me and i encountered no bugs...then again...i am big on talking to everyone i see multiple times and perhaps i just got lucky in following the quests in seqential order, and i don't skip any dialogues at all..i let the charcaters talk and take my time.

I will however watch the forums over the next few days and see whats broke and whats fix...i guarantee something is broke....just what exactly is broke is the question and when its doscovered...

i only err on the side of caution because patch vetting is part of my job at work...i wouldn't dare push a patch that hasn't been tested in multiple scenarios....especailly Windows patches and Office patches..MS has done good so far this since the last quarter of last year...only 1 patch caused problems that was fix...Bethesda has no such track record.

all you folk who installed the patch today, I salute you for your bravery and being good beta testers for me lol j/k

I guess. Here's a few examples: 1) Picking up a copy of "The Legendary Scourge." Not sure how I would know that book was a quest item. 2) Killing the giant at Blizzard Rest 3) Running across Liefnarr's body.

I'm done with this game!!

They didn't fix the bug with the battle music that I'm experiencing. IT WON'T STOP PLAYING!!!

Done with this. Good riddance.

Really? Did you ever think to report this? Did you ever think to return to an earlier save? Or did you just blindly keep on playing for weeks expecting somebody to fix this issue which only you appear to have had but chose not to share with anybody?

? :)

I'm kind of glad that they've added a workaround. But seriously WHY would you sell the armour before completing the questline, anyway?

A. I've made threads about the bug on this forum and on other skyrim forums
B. I stopped playing a couple hours after it started

Simple. I play as a High Elf mage... The gear didnt mean anything to me at the time except 'free gold'.
I wasnt really caring about the skills it offered. So I sold it.
If it was a game breaker/Quest breaker to sell it... it should have been classed as a quest item and unsellable. (Like other thinks are).

The 'fix' items... are still sellable... so be careful. lol

Especially when us mages focus on Health/Magicka rather than stamina. We can't afford to carry armour we never use.

But you get free room and storage at the College, why wouldn't you store it there? It's the only armor in the game designed like it is... with a special name and everything.

That didn't seem important? ;)

*Not trying to flame, just poking some fun. The issue was beat to death 2 months ago. lmao*

Because people want to play the game like they want to play it. By Fixing it Bethesda basically admits that it was either a design flaw or a bug.. so they fixed it. Get over it...

Glitched bookshelves stay glitched, Beth have already stated the "fix" is not retroactive, its a preventative fix. It wont happen now with shelves, but previously bugged ones will stay bugged.
This may have been true for the previous patch (i.e. 1.3), it doesn't necessarily mean it applies to subsequent patches like 1.4. As long as the software is corrected, and any unexpected or 'broken' bookcase states are handled correctly, a retroactive fix should be perfectly feasible. And judging by the reports in the following link, the software has finally been corrected. Read the three posts in the following link, starting from 'ReuleHL's post, which is about halfway down.

Bethesda themselves stated that they were still working on a retroactive fix for previously bugged shelves. As noted in that very thread there is more than one way to bug out a shelf, which is probably what hampered attempts initially to rectify it with 1.3. And as Bethesda themselves have not come out and said in the patch notes or in the forum they have sorted it now and it is indeed been applied retroactively those posts are nothing more than anecdotal, and speculative reports.

Once I get the chance to patch the game and load up one of my characters I will find out. I have a massively bugged shelf in the backroom of breezehome. Its now only got space for 4 books, as the shelf effectively "ate" every other book that was on it previously.

Yet what happens when someone decides to sell the placed guild items then :P what then as they are still sellable according to one person

That sounds pretty bad. It will be interesting to see what happens with that bookshelf when you update. I wonder if it will 'regurgitate' your eaten books? If you see a pile of half-digested books in front of the bookcase when you enter Breezehome, you will know what has happened!

My broken bookshelves are still knackered after the 1.4 update. Some randomly "swallow" all the books after activating them.

This update only prevents bookcases from becoming broken in the first place, not fixing those already broken, iirc.

That is good to know. I've only seen reports of them working correctly, even previously broken bookcases. At least we can now confirm that it isn't a guaranteed fix for previously broken bookcases.

Well, I remember going to Breezehome and opening the bookshelf by the alchemy station so I could put some more books in it, but I found out that it was empty, even though the display clearly shows books on it. But when I closed the bookshelf, all of the books disappeared. Fortunately, this only happened to me ONCE, and it didn't happen to me ever since in my other houses. And it was during my first playthrough before the 1.4 patch, and the disappeared books were all either replacable or from quests I've long finished, so it didn't bother me very much.

I got the same bug after patching today. In Breezehome, the top bookshelf on the right from the entrance was full of books, but when activating the bookshelf it was empty! I reloaded my save and picked all the books from the shelf "by hand" to prevent loosing them.

The strange thing though is that previously I had 18 books in there. But activating the shelf now states that I can only have 10 books there. It looks kinda silly because with 10 books the shelf is only half full.

Existing bugs:

- "Visit the College of Winterhold" still not available if you used persuade from Faralda.
- "Bring dragon scale and dragon bone to Esbern" doesn't clear.
- Esbern's potion (Dragon Infusion) still doesn't work.
- Not getting the courier for "Repairing the Phial" to trigger.
- Quest items still stuck in inventory (Bards quest instruments, Lexicon, Gallus's Encoded Journal, etc.).

Everything looks great so far (I'm nearing the end of the game with all Factions completed).
