Patch 1.4.19.0.4 is available!

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 11:48 am

Try going around Windhelm and see if the NPC's don't give some of that ambient dialogue about how there is a killer on the loose, or "heard there was another one last night" or something to that effect. I know in the before-patch games, that's what always got the quest line dialogue options going for me. Maybe it's fixed, but it just needs to be triggered again...?
Yes they talk about murders, I've even talked with the Captain... followed Susanna/Calixto around... all to no avail! It will just not trigger... argggggg!

It should be noted (for anyone coming here to find out), that the "Illia" bug has been fixed - with a catch: If you haven't acquired her as a follower yet (she's the "good" witch you meet at Darklight Tower), she can be dismissed as a follower, and reacquired whenever you want (I verified this by loading an old game-save before I met her, and playing out her quest again). However... if she is currently your follower (before this latest patch, 1.4) or she has been dismissed... you still can't have her follow you again!

I am pretty far into the game now, so I don't know if I'm ready to fall back that far into one of my older game-saves, so I can have her as a "reuseable" follower. At least if you start a new game, now (or a game-save before meeting her)... you won't have to worry about being able to have her as a follower whenever you want!

Thank you for the info! This is an undocumented fix.

same thing happens to me. They talk about murders. I've talked to everyone in town. I've even tried leaving and coming back on 4 different occasions to try to trigger this quest from scratch. Nothing works. I have put in almost 200 hrs and am not about to start over like others have suggested.

I have started a dedicated thread for this problem http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1345027-14-patch-and-blood-in-the-ice/#entry20272590
So that anyone with this problem after 1.4 Or those for whom it has worked, can post their thoughts on how to fix it.

It been suggested that since 1.4 there is some Guild Armor in the training room.....
Cant 100% confirm this until I get home.

Either way... it sounds like they did not fix this, like the notes say they did.

Turns out that there is some thief's guild boots in the training room, so under new management is now complete and I have the achievement.

Had B0TI already triggered for you and glitched half way through?... or did it not trigger at all and then worked with 1.4?... if the later is true... how did you go about triggering it?

It never triggered for me before, but I have the "Buy house in Windhelm" quest activated. I thought that it wouldnt work this time because went to try to buy it, I still got the "... there's been some.....unpleasantries..." talk from the dude. Plus, ol Stonefist and his boss were still lying on the floor. I did the leave and return 3x and sure enough, when I entered again, the body (hot dead chick) was there in the cemetary.

Load a savegame, then press 'start' to bring up the journal. Then, select 'System' and you will see the version number on the bottom left of the screen (near the list of options). Note that the number is quite faint, but it is there.

i did not know you could do this. thx for the helpful tip. :)

No problem! I wish it was kept on the title page where it was more obvious (i.e. the unpatched version had it on the title page), but from patch 1.1 onwards, it seems like the developers wanted to hide the version number from view.

Forbidden Legend quest completed as the patch promised.

Markarth ash piles dd not cleanup as the patch seemed to indicate it would.

So far all other problems not on the patch list are still not fxed (follower, quest items stuck in inventory, Misc quests not completing properly, Some exterior enemies not respawning (Blizzard Rest, Valtheim Towers), glow stacking etc.

Are the treasure chests appearing now? (they disappeared for a lot of people back in 1.2/3 so I decided to stop playing until 1.4)

Just now I was selling some things to Eorlund Gray-Mane, and attempted to fast travel afterwards. I got the message "you cannot fast travel while a guard is pursuing you."

I thought I didn't have a bounty in Whiterun. Closed the map and found Vilkas there. Earlier, I had tried to talk to Farkas and someone else, and they both would only give the follow option and tell me I already had a follower.

It appears Vilkas has now half-realized he's supposed to be following me and is running around following me with his sword out and initiating dialogue wth the only option as "Follow me," to which he responds "I see you already have a follower."

So that's actually worse than before the 1.4 patch. I reloaded a previous save and I guess I'll have to avoid Jorrvasker and Eorland until (hopefully) the 1.5 patch in 2-3 months.

If you haven't started a quest, (one of the ones that this patch fixed) will the patch fix it, or do you have to start the game over there too?

If you haven't started a particular quest, then the patch fixes should allow you to start and complete that quest without encountering the specified problem. This means you won't need to start a new game.

Could not agree more about failing quests - it just seems like a basic requirement when there are hundreds (at a guess?) of quests available at any given time. I randomly run all over the map getting and completing quests so my stuff is WAY out of order. I am also a compulsive looter and now have a whole range of items that are locked in my inventory and won't trigger the quests properly. Really frustrating. If you pick up a quest item it should tell you to go and speak to the person who gives the quest in the first place, and if you fail it you shouldn't have it on the list anymore! The game is too large to play comfortably trying to remember which ones you actually CAN'T complete for whatever reason.

I have no idea how difficult it is for Beth to code this kind of stuff, but they made an amazing game, so I'm sure it's possible. The game could be just so much better than it is without bugs. I really had no interest in even being on a forum like this and wanted to play the game "as is" from the start, but then I ran into so many bugs (the biggest being all of my game files disappearing and having to start again) that the game was actually unplayable without seeking help online. That says a lot about where this game stands from an average consumer standpoint.

*sigh* The load times for my first character haven't improved at all. In fact, it feels like my load times have gotten longer.( keep in mind, I disabled autosaves indefinitely as well as erased them)

That along with my still occuring texture bug, is making me not want to play this game anymore.

I appreciate that Bethesda is trying to fix this game for us, but seriously long load times and textures issues shouldn't have been in the game in the first place. In fact, this should have been addressed before the game came out.

It makes this more sad when I've been anxiously waiting for this patch, hoping I could enjoy this game even more.....

When you first start the game, look at the top left corner of the screen for any messages regarding quests that get altered because of the patch. I found that when I first loaded my game after updating, I had a message regarding "Onmunds Request".

It appears that you will have to wait for the ash piles to clear up, sometime like 72 hours, or 31 days or whatever. I don't think theya re meant to dissappear immediately.

Indeed, it also depends upon what kind of ash-piles they are. Generic ash-piles will clean up after 30 days, but if the ash-pile is from a named NPC, then it wont clean up.

I ve had the game on xbox for a few days and have had literally zero problems with with 1.3 except that low quality sound which happened once(you'll know it when you hear). I'm 25 hours in and the game has ran perfect since day 1. It also looks much better than the ps3 version. I downloaded 1.4 and it was the first time the game ever froze my xbox. I havent noticed any differences from the patch except my first freeze ever. I have confidence it wont happen that often. I played the game at least a little even when it was running like total [censored] on my ps3. I have been thrilled with how this game is on xbox. All the fixes everyone was waiting for on ps3...i got em early by getting the xbox game. WIll I runi into problems wit 1.4? I dont know and at this point I dont care. Im accepting this game as is from now on. Glitchy mess or not I dont care anymore. My xbox experiance so far has been 99% perfect and i hope it stays that way after 1.4. WIth that said Im only 25 hours in but on the playstation version I started having problems at 15 hours. The lag, stuttering, and general sluggishness on ps3 from 40 to 150 hours makes me not care about any small glitches like overlapping battle music or a couple of broken quests.

Ive played this game for 150+20+25 hours and Id say about 120 of them were pure gaming magic. I understand the people who still have it on ps3 are furious and I hope in the next few days they post things like "runs perfect" and "I cant believe I was upset about lag and stuttering IM just having so much fun I cant remember it". Atthis point I just hope they dont say "way better than the xbox version anyone who traded ps3 for xbox before 1,4 is a boob!"

I am suspicious that this patch will solve problems for existing characters which is even more sad. I will not start a new game to be able to finish quests. This"patch" stuff is really disappointing. Why one would design a game that allows for free exploration but also results in busted quests is absurd. IT's obvious that an open world means people might be inclined to get quest items without following the bread crumbs of the diary. Sigh. Its like getting penalized for playing an open world game.

Its the frustration that patches won't fix multiple quest glitches on existing characters. I started over once after 150 hour son my first character. I will not start over again if I get glitched quests with my new one that has 50 hours. To play 50 hours of repeated stuff and have to avoid all quests so you don't break them is not fun and absurd.

Ive done everything there is to do in the game, I still plan on restarting (trying out new builds is fun). Restarting is not too big of a deal no matter how many hours Ive put into other characters. I find the game that fun and have that much replay value that it doesnt matter what I have/havent done, its what I can do with my characters that makes it exciting to play. My first char was a jack of all trades, my next will be a brawler and I want to punch dragons to death
