No Patch for the English version in Germany

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 2:50 pm

Nah, doesn't work unfortunately. If I click on 'buy', I'm automatically redirected to the German version of the DLC. Which is actually new because a while ago I always got an error message 'Not available in your country'

Give concrete informations

- retail disc version
- country

And such things that could help to resolve your problem in a concrete way - i'm from italy and here the situation is different as it seems, but i've to check it tonight

Peeps need to keep in mind that Germany has extremely strict laws on gaming. Gore in many games must be removed or changed as does certain other content. Thats almost certainly why you cant get US/UK dawnguard in Germany.
yeah but ive seen ppl playing the german version and as far as i noticed there were no changes at all, just the dubbing

True, however those strict laws don't apply to Austria and there the english DLC is also not available.

Yes but there may be other "behind the scenes" changes you would not readily be able to notice. As I said Germany has its own laws pertaining to games sales and DLC in the country, and Bethesda must abide by those laws.

It may simply be a case of Austria not having its own specific "region" as it were and tied in with Germany. I dont know just guessing here.

Also, Skyrim is rated 16+ in Germany and according to http://www.schnittberichte.com/news.php?ID=2984 it's completely uncensored and uncut over here. So there's no reason for the English version not to be available imo.

Honestly, Lexandro is 100% right. Germany is one of the worst countries to be in if you want to enjoy entertainment products in original without laughable cuts (unless you compare them to like China or North Korea)
This even affects Switzerland to some degree, since some of our shops buy their german versions from german retailers, so as a teen, I bought three german game with cuts in it on accident. Quake 4, some WW2 shooter and another shooter. Also another reason why I don't touch any movie/game that has been checked by the USK.

Actually i've been wondering about this... because of our censorship laws here, dead island wasn't published here in Germany, so i bought a copy from Austria through amazon... and funny enough i DO get patches and stuff from the german marketplace... soo yeah i've no idea of what the hell goes on there

I don't know for certain as well - the XBox-Live website for Austria does have "xbox.com/de-AT/" in the URL, but if that means it's its own region or tied-in with Germany, I don't know ...

yeah its ridiculous... imagin my surprise when i bought call of duty:BO almost exclusively because of nazi zombies... and lo and behold germans can ONLY play zombies with other germans because of censorship...

XBL Austria should be a different marketplace. Best example: When Gears 2 was still banned over here, you guys were able to buy the DLCs but we couldn't. Or maybe it's just a different section of the German marketplace? But that I don't know, sry.

Just signed in to point out that i would really like to see you (bethesda) trying to bring the english dawnguard version to the german (and austrian) marketplace. I guess this is what most people here would like to see and i hope this main request isn't hidden in all the spam and unrelated talk. If it's not possible, for whatever reason, it's sad but i have to accept it and i really appreaciate your efforts.

Kind regards

Nobody told me that it wouldn't work! That's the point. Why can't we just have the patch for our UK-Versions? I paid the same 1600 MS Points as everyone else, so why can't I play the game as everyone else? I'm realy pissed right now.
Even Bioware released a over 1GB free dlc for ME3 with the english dialogue. And on Marketplace I have the option to choose the language for my dlc from the same company. So when a soul less company as EA manages to release English versions to the FIGS countries, why can't you? I'm seriously asking you, no - I'm begging you to release the dlc in English or at least the patch for UK versions. Please with lots of sugar on top!

Okay, i tried several avenues now...and nothing worked.

I rented in a shop the german version of skyrim...the patch was immediately loaded for the DLC...if i play on the rented german disc...everything is fine, i can load my savegames BUT if i put in my own UK disk, they are nvde again. Even if i install the german disc, it does not work.

This is a no go.

I tried that code stated above...i only get the german version ..... This is a no go as well.

Okay, we Germans need to migrate ......

Hmm... I don't have a german disc of Skyrim at hand, but I guess it'd be the same for me. Problem is there's only one Dawnguard DLC in the austrian Marketplace and that is the german version. So if you download that, you'll get the german audio. Thing is, everything in my game is english - all the subtitles, all the text, the voices, even the Dawnguard-related text.

Just the voices, the speech pack that was added with Skyrim is in german, meaning the characters all talk in english, just when the talk is Dawnguard-related they speak in german.

Wait a sec, does that mean the German Dawnguard DLC is in English except the voice?

Seems like it. A guard was saying something to me about the Dawnguard in german, but the subtitles were in english.

Hmm, sounds like the German Dawnguard DLC isn't just bugged, it's incomplete.

I just talked to XBox live support on the phone.

they told me that they are sorry, no solution. I bought the UK version, the German version of dawnguard is unfortunately not compatible. I need to buy the german version of the game or forget it. They are NOT going to make a british UK version available to Germans due to the age restrictions on our market. I can get something working if i fly over to England and get it there.

He tried to word it politely, I give him that much but i was seriously pissed and he was tired of trying to tell me basically that it is my fault that i did something so stupid as to buy a foreign version of a game...what in impossiblity to buy a game that is not allowed in my region...I am a law breaker ....i deserve nothing better than to sit here and have not working software i payed good money for......okay, but i heard from his voice that he was sick of listening to my ...unreasonable...complaints.

Maybe they purposely didn't include the english audio with the german DLC to keep the file size smaller. The settings for my XBox are all set to english and the console itself was also bought in the UK (which shouldn't make a difference, really), so that might have something to do with the text/subtitles etc. being in english.

'... because of age restrictions...' I stopped taking him seriously after reading that. Sounds more like he just wanted to get rid of you fast. It seems the only thing we can do right now is wait and see what happens.

Unless Developers have to pay per Megabyte, I see no actual reason to. Iirc the maximum file size for DLC is 2 GB and Dawnguard with its 600 MB isn't even close to that.

True, but maybe they created these country specific DLCs and only included the necessary files for each one. Keeps the download smaller and isn't such a nuisance for customers if they have to download huge files while only needing half of them for the DLC to work. But that's just speculation on my part ...

Man and i was really looking forward to todays patch. Sad Story that it doesnt work / isnt starting. Btw: yes, iam another of those German gamers with an UK version of Skyrim. So here are the same problems which are already explained.

I tried several things btw too to get a way arround it. Like changing country specifics on the console, using alternative en-GB urls on the xbox web-presence etc. Sadly nothing worked and its always trying to download the german version of Dawnguard. Guys, am i doing something wrong? Is there really no way to download skyrim from the UK Site? I mean somehow it must work right? Maybe with a proxy to hide my ip, so that microsoft isnt redirecting me to the DE page? >_<
Man thats frustrating... and i cant really wait cause i need to write a review about the DLC >.>

The English disc you have -- is it a US disc or UK disc?

I got a UK version of Skyrim. Guess like a lot of other fellows here.

^^ Please help us out in our misery. XD

Sorry Guys for the disappointment I brought upon you. It didn't work out for me too, tough :S.

For my part I could download the english version, but seems not being compatible. Perhaps was the US release and since I've a UK this was mismatched? o.O

I lost ._. all simple logic in this...

Besides, isn't it hilarious that UK version users are penalized by such an issue, since we live in the EU and even though English should be the official European language? XDD

._. cause its quite [censored]. Especially when you live here in my country.

You got a choice of 3 different versions, since luxemburg is so "multicultural"

We've got the UK version, the german & the french version of Skyrim in our shops.

I usually pick always UK games because I love it the better, since translations mostly are bad and cheap done.

?_? this is the FIRST time I ever saw something like that. and hopefully, the last...
