Those crazy foresworn- trapping spiders in tents...... Yes, I blame them for putting the spider in there. Seriously, I don't know why the devs put a frostbite spider in the tent, or maybe she's a glitch.
I just did that quest yesterday and there was no spider in any of the tents (and I had no lagging problems), so it must be a glitch -- albeit, a relatively common one it appears.
However (you gotta love synchronicity), later in the play session, I was on my way to Swindler's Den and nearby, shortly after nightfall, I discovered a small alter out in the middle of nowhere (had a couple of gems and an Enchant skill book on it). I stood there for a bit, gazing at the incredible sky (northern lights aura, full moons, the altar shooting off cinders) in awe, but suddenly everytime I tried to turn the game went into the lag/freeze/lag/freeze mode. Wow, what a transition: from awe to panic at the turn of my head. Hah!
Anyway, I just moved away from the flame "bulb" out into the darkness and the lagging stopped; thus, I assumed the graphics engine was just struggling with all that beauty ... heh. But once I wandered a few yards further away from the altar, I saw what I thought were Lunar Moths in the distance and went chasing, only to discover those lights were mages battling bandits. And as I got closer still, wolves got into the mix and I noticed there were mammoths/giants nearby getting nervous.
I stayed far enough from the fray to not be noticed, but I realized that because of the Radiant AI, there can frequently be things happening within the cell that the player is not necessarily aware of. That is, things and events that the game is tracking outside of the obvious -- obvious from the player's point of view -- and occassionally this can get a bit out of control -- out of control from the hardware's perspective.
