Patch 1.7

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 11:59 pm

Once you are done mangling your native language, consider this. Beth can pull support at any time, and there is jack you can do about it. Any patch of any kind at this point is above and beyond what the vast majority of devs/publishers would bother with releasing. So not only is the patch welcomed, despite what it doesnt fix, but its bloody good news as it means continued support at this stage.

And yes I think its entirely pathetic to criticise the game being patched. Because its frankly moronic to do so. And dont bother calling me son pal, at my age Im old enough to be your dad.

for someone whos old enough to be a father you surely dont act it, its a game forum pal, grow up a little and chill out maybe?

my opinion on the matter is this, im glad we are finally getting a fix for the dawngaurd lag and kinect voice command improvements (im welsh so i find myself shouting, literally, at the damn kinnect to get it to work lol). although saying that, i have no problems using my kinnect for mass effect 3, works first time every time.

im sure beth will fix the dlc issues, there are quite a few of them, a month is nothing guys be patient, god it'll take a month for MS to bloody cert a patch, lol ;)

Your argument is basically....

If I agree to buy 10 computers for a fixed price, but upon delivery, only ~7 are there BUT Bethesda promises they'll fix the delivery and have the remaining three delivered over time, then the next two are delivered and they both have lower quality speculations than what was agreed upon....

Instead of complaining, I should be thankful they delivered any computers at all, and SHOULD thank them if I hope to see the 10th computer?
No no, I don't see it that way. We all buy this game in the hopes of it functioning properly, or if not immediately, in the hopes that it'll be fixed to the best of their ability. When a patch like this is released 8 months after release and fails to mention VERY obvious, prevelant bugs (Blood on the Ice), then I do believe people have a right to express dissatisfaction.

Games are not hardware, your example is flawed to say the least.

You have every right to complain about problems, and should do so in a clear and concise manner so that others know of them and they get looked in to. My game was bugged with Blood on the ice numerous times, I cant get the new Aetherium Wars quest to trigger, I cant get forsworn consipracy to work because it spawned the wrong character unit for the quest and a whole host of other problems.

And yet still I think its pathetic to criticise bethesda making the effort to resolve problems when they could very easily walk away and leave the title as is and you and I would have jack we could do about it. We should be appluading them for making the effort over and above what 90% of the marketplace would, so that they understand continued support is appreciated and that we would like more in the future.

Whinging that its been a month since the last patch, when the team have had a major flap on sorting out a major FIGS owners problem and have just released additional content that took months to make is what I call pathetic.

Wait another month then we might get a patch that fixes actual problems. Just be thankful they don't make us pay for them.

The games been out nearly a year, most developers would have dropped support by now. Its pathetic that your complaining about the game getting updated.

Think everybody in here will agree, there are no other games like Elderscrolls. People will still be playing this in a few years. Well games like cod get to be about a year old and get patched/updates and they are the biggest games.

All I can add is my support for them continuing to patch, the argument relating to if they should or not continue patching the original game so long after release is irreverent.

The argument IS relevant if the DLC is in need of patching, which I'm led to believe it does, or for that matter if the patch, as in 1.6 is required for the DLC and it breaks the original game (1.6 screwed my Xbox game so much I bought the PC version). Patching or lack of on the PC may not be such a big problem, the modding community will most likely come to the rescue in a lot of cases, a previous poster mentioned the surperiorty of the USkP in regard to the official ones and I have to agree with the assessment.

The problem is, with consoles, you get what they give you, if a preparation patch for DLC as in 1.6 screws your game up or the DLC is buggy then the developers have a responsibility to fix it, don't they?

In defence of the developers though, I have to say, there may not be a lot of manpower left working on a project after release, most of the programmers may be tied up in the next game. Less manpower equals more time fixing bugs and fewer bugs being fixed, millions of lines of code all interacting must be a real nightmare to sort through.

Well, this patch officially broke my Skyrim entirely.

All of my mods are in a wonderful cluster[censored] as i have no idea what is causing the crashes to desktop i get when trying to load a game. In the end i just deleted them all and after verifying the game cache and defragging; it still crashes.

Oh well.

Sorry but people complaining do have a point.

If the community could pull off something as complete and functional as the unofficial Skirim a patch three months after the game was out, at least the same level of support is expected from the developer. We're not talking about millions of lines of source code but about all those nasty in game bugs and glitches that can be fixed with the CS alone and a bit of scripting. There are some quest related bugs that are still around since release and that get ignored patch after patch. This is what makes people complaining.

That Bethesda releases new patches 8 months after release it's certainly appreciated but the quality of support is no doubt affecting Bethesda's image in eyes of the community.

If your on PC 1.7 has Dawnguard fixes in there, so if you don't have Dawngaurd that could make a mess.

I can see this thread being locked once a mod gets hold of it, but just as an aside...

[whispers]You might want to check your grammar and spelling before you have a go at someone else's ;)[/whispers]

I would bet that Bethesda continues actively supporting the game for at least another year.

They've been PHENOMENALLY successful with this game - it's on the order of $1B in sales. Furthermore, Bethesda bought the Fallout and Elder Scrolls franchises because these are the kinds of games it wants to DO.

I would bet with confidence that there will be more than 2 DLC's and that this game will be a powerful, well supported franchise for Bethesda for another decade. Think of Half Life and COunterstrike and how stunningly successful they've been. CS has been around since at least 1997!!!!! THAT WAS 15 YEARS AGO!!!!!!

Y'all need to be patient. This game is going to deliver TONS of enjoyment for many years.

That would be inane... Dawnguard isn't out for PC, but this patch is currently ONLY OUT FOR PC. It's in PC beta-testing... WHY would it require something the PC hasn't got? (unless DG comes out for PC tomorrow or something)

isn't it only like one portion though? Just a vampire lord fix?

Can that really completely screw up the game?

Not necessarily so. Modders can easily achieve such feats because they aren't limited by

1. Schedule
2. Juggling other projects in a studio
3. Deadlines

Its really a no-brainer how modders can achieve such a feat when they have no constraints other than their own time invested into the project. Which, when you have a group project with very dedicated and skilled members, is not all that surprising.

There are some quest related bugs that are still around since release and that get ignored patch after patch. This is what makes people complaining.

That is because Bethesda is picking their battles. If you take a look at the patch notes you will once again see memory optimizations present. This is likely due to the new game-crippling bug where interiors are vanishing for people.

So what should Bethesda prioritize for patching? Every single thing? Impossible, they are a studio. They have to plan it out more than that. So, they prioritize fixes. I don't know about you, but I'd rather they fix crashing/freezing and memory issues to solve these game crippling vanishing interiors before they go patching one of hundreds of the ingame quests. And guess what? It looks like that is what this patch focuses on.

snip

If every town winds up a ghost town due to getting slaughtered, who really cares about the interiors loading. There wouldn't be much to look at in a whole hell of alot of the interiors >_>

They didn't have to fix EVERYTHING, but they could have at LEAST fixed the idiotic implementation of the in-town vampire spawns (which some have claimed can't be fixed, in which case there needs to be an option for immortal NPCs at the very least) and the Serana/Vampire Lord glitch. Not to mention making Serana a marriage candidate would take what... changing a single flag? But of course who knows if they'd be nice enough to do that in the first place.

Perhaps if they're oh-so pressed for time/resources they should maybe consider recruiting those who work on the UKSP for help? Hell, perhaps even request that they be allowed to use the entire patch, seeing as it makes their game much better than they managed to do >_>

If money is an issue, they can just fire the current patching team and pay the UKSP team the same amount for a much better job

What they need to do is make games for PC and port them to consoles, instead of porting console games to PC. That would fix a few things even if they end up with a little bit less in there wallets

Is called Witcher 2.

Agree for Elder Scrolls though. I mean, ES games are already far superior on PC. Why not just make them properly there and be done with it?

Really? Considering all the problems people have been having and the state it was released. Also, bethesda said they would continue to support it. So,you think its pathetic he's complaining about the game being updated, yet we are getting DLC. Get a grip son.

I honestly can't believe what people say sometimes.

Can you believe this?.........

You are talking nonsense. Bethesda don't owe it to you to fix minor bug issues. I've had this game since release and i haven't had any game breaking issues. You sound like a petulant child.

And that would put them out of business.
Making games on consoles is the priority, because most sensible people do their gaming there. Most sales come from the consoles.
Do you have any idea of the costs these days in producing any game? Expectations are now so sky high, that they have scores of artists that cost a phenomenal amount of money. Gone are the days when people could put out slightly less shiny, but of a greater quality. Although many people like to think they'd buy quality over shiny graphics, it just isnt true in practice.
Games stop being produced purely on art costs alone that run too high.
So if Beth spent the colossal amount of cash they have done to produce Skyrim, and then put it out for crappy PC platform, they'd make a HUGE loss. That is why it was made for 360 first and foremost.

Art costs are also why MMOs CANNOT have awesome graphics and remain successful. The costs of all the art, and then the costs of the servers to keep all that running across several hundred thousand concurrent users is impossible. That is also why TES:O has been dumbed down on graphics.

These days, games cost BIG money. Entire studios go out of business just trying to make a single game.
So yeah, it's fairly obvious why Bethesda fully support the 360. It's where the money is, and that's how they stay afloat.

yeah, you wouldnt think so by reading these forums. Unfortunately though, what you have here is a VERY VOCAL minority. The amount of console hate here is insane, but it's like that on lots of specialist web fora.
The reality is though that most gamers will never even log into this forum, or others, or even be aware of their existence.

I was taking exception to your view that "most sensible people" do their gaming on consoles.
Which is a completely unsubstantiated and unprovable assertion.

True, but so is "ES games are already far superior on PC. Why not just make them properly there and be done with it? ", and "What they need to do is make games for PC and port them to consoles, instead of porting console games to PC", and that's just on this page in this thread alone.
This forum in general is rammed full of unsubstantiated pro-PC nonsense, and it's propagated by the vocal minority that resides here.
What I was trying to do in my post besides share some facts, is give an alternate opinion to the one that is usually present here.

I cant do anything about the reams of unsubstantiated posts that are present here, so I may as well join them. The part that you disagree with in my post is as reliable as the opinions that usually come from the other camp.
