People spelling names wrong

Post » Wed Jun 29, 2011 12:55 pm

Iunno, my first name is Sam(uel) which is rather easy, nobody's messed up either spelling or pronunciation yet. My last name is easy to pronounce, but if I someone only knows how to pronounce it there seems to be a 50/50 chance of the k becoming a ck.

I did some temporary work a few weeks ago and two people there called me 'Sam-well' every single day.

Doesn't annoy me because I'm used to it.

My name is Peyton. Pretty much everyone I meet for the first time spells it "Payton".

My name is "Kyle O'Cuilinn"

Never really had any problems with people misspelling my first name. The last name however has been a nightmare throughout my life. :cryvaultboy:

My last name is easy enough but my first which is Jamison gets butchered a lot. I get Jameson,Jamson,Jamisn and all other sorts.Even if I shorten my name to Jamie which I do sometimes it still gets misspelled.Jaime Jamae, Jayme and any other variations. Thats why I preferred just to be called by my last name.

The only thing that bothers me when people spell my name wrong, is when I spell it out for them, and they still get it wrong. :swear:

My name isn't that hard to spell, though I have had people spell a variation that I don't use. My name is Sean, and some people have written down Shaun or Shawn. What really gets to me is when people call me "seen" and then look confused.

I always pronounce your name "Seen". :/

People usually mispronounce my name, I am used to it. They also spell it wrong. Meh, worse things in life to worry about.

I'm surprised when people manage to spell my name right.

Name's дарья. I transcribe it Darya in English, but most people spell it Daria (likely due to the MTV cartoon and/or the fact that Daria is a slightly more common spelling). The Y looks cooler, though. No one, not even me, pronounces it in accordance with the original, Russian, spelling.

my name is lewis

i've been caled lois, louis , luis, lewes and some person even spelt it loowis

honestly i would've thought the way my name is spelt was common

although it mostly doesnt bother me now unless just stupid.

My last name ends with tt. Some people add an e at the end or spell it with one t. Happens so much tho, it doesn't really bother me anymore.

The only problems I've had were with people mishearing my last name. My first name, Michael ( I go by Mike ), is so common that it's very very rare for people to misspell or mispronounce it.

My name is Eli. My grandmother always, ALWAYS spells it Ely, no mater how many times we've told her.

But that's okay, because I  my grandmother. Besides, the bank still takes the checks with 'Ely' on them anyways! :D

With me it isn't so much that my name gets misspelled that annoys me, but the people it get's misspelled by.

Every year I get a birthday card from my sister to "Carl". My name is spelled with a K and my own sister gets it wrong.

I'm also Jonathan, with the same random misspellings as you.

A funnier story though, my grandma's name is Flora. She gets a bill from DirectTv that says Laura, then spends 20 minutes trying to explain to them there isn't a Laura living here and she is the person with the service.

I don't mind people misspelling my name, as there are a few ways to spell it, but it does annoy me a bit when I correct them if they mispronounce it and they continue to use what is essentially a completely different name.

My first name is rarely misspelled (Peter) but its often pronounced wrong (the pronunciation is Swedish not English or Finnish). My surname is another matter as it has 19th century spelling, is a compound word AND has two Scandinavian letters (?,?) in it. And my speech impediment makes it hard for me to pronounce it. FML

This. I have an A and not an E in the middle. It's not quite audible, but remember it.

People mispell my last name a lot, that's more due to my lazy pronounciation of it though so I don't really blame anyone.

Nobody I know in Norway has ever mispelled by first name, Sindre. But no english speaking person has ever managed to say it without utterly butchering it. One person has managed to figure out that the last E is not pronounced before the R. It is not Sinder, if it was, it would be written that way.
