[WIP] Pip-Boy 2500

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 5:34 am

Oh nice. I'd download it. I used the Readius for a time in Fallout 3 but it started causing crashes with my cloaking equipment so I switched to an Aperture Science reskin of the 3000A.

The Lil' Pip looks damn awesome. The main things on my mind, however, are the boundless possibilities for the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Pimp-Boy_3_Billion.

I may try my hand at modelling the Lil Pip-Boy 3000 this weekend. Though, I may take some liberties with the design -- I just don't like some of the aspects of the concept art. :P For example, the Pip-Boy doesn't even seem like it would close properly. Hmm!

Yeah, that's perfectly reasonable. It would need to be modified slightly to have the correct buttons/functions anyways, such as changing the 'radar' type screen to a geiger counter and include some visible buttons for navigating the menus. Awesome that you'll work on it - I'd love to see it in the game.

Would be great if the radar actually displayed the local map, so you have the default pipboy browser in the top monitor minus the local map

That would be awesome, yeah. But I'm thinking that it'd be pretty much impossible. If it's already extremely difficult to properly replace the Pip-Boy itself, I can't imagine what modifying the UI to that extent is like.

If it's possible, I could perhaps turn that radar into a compass or maybe have some kind of animated sonar texture for it to perhaps explain the compass and how it can detect other people on the HUD.

The PipBoy 3000 comes with an internal motion sensor (which was an external item in the original Fallouts). It was going to be activated by a 'module' in Van Buren, I believe, but it'd make sense for it to be included by default in the one you get and, yeah, it'd certainly help explain why you can detect people on your compass.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that motion sensor upgrade in FO1 and 2 -- probably because I barely ever used it. :P

Looks like a great mod! Can't wait to get this rigged out into my game and to have some classic fallout goodness.

This should have been in the classic pack, imho.

Alright, I've sent this one off to my friend Millenia for it to be UV mapped. Hopefully I'll hear back from him soon.

When it's back, I'll try my best to rig it as a replacement for the Pip-Boy Readius. Once that's done, I will begin skinning it. :)

That's great news. Finally a great replacement for the classic FO fans among us.

I can't wait for this release. Atfer your friend UV maps it, do you have a projected release date? Just curious. :foodndrink:

It really is fantastic work by the way. I feel it will fit more than the 3000. Some form of the 2000 like this should have been included in vanilla NV, I'm surprised it wasn't.

Hats off to you, sir. :celebration:

LOVE the model! Look forward to using it!

EDIT: Hopefully you will, not only release a version like the Readius, but also one that's strapped to the wrist

My friend Millenia came through for me with the http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v130/EdisLeado/Pip-Boy%202500/pipboy.jpg. I'm going to try to get the model to replace both the hand-held Pip-Boy Readius AND the arm-mounted Pip-Boy 3000.

It's been difficult to work on the vacuum tubes and the grate since I dunno how to use transparent textures, etc. However, I still spent all night working on the Pip-Boy 2500 skin, here are the results so far:

http://img717.imageshack.us/f/70590887.jpg/
http://img51.imageshack.us/i/68577788.jpg/
http://img40.imageshack.us/i/24444904.jpg/

Everything was made from scratch. :) Tell me what you guys think of the skin so far! And perhaps give me some suggestions on how to improve it and what I should replace the vacuum tube compartment with if it doesn't work out.

Thats looking really great! For the transparency either use a png with no background or use a texture with an alpha channel, usually works in any 3d program
I would like to see some renders with proper lighting as it is a little dark now, I would also add some real big dents like shown in http://www.razkun.com/DWIV/WIP_helmet.jpg

Keep up the great work!

This is going to be so damn sweet when its released. I've never really liked that clunky wrist thingy. But i got one humble request though. PLEASE make a optional texture with the real Pipoy 2000 Mascot for nostalgia's sake.

Well, I actually took the time to manually re-draw the current Vault-Boy to be in the same position as the old mascot. When this is released, I may take the time to put the original mascot in if someone else doesn't do it first. :P
