Planning your perks.

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:25 am

Hmm, haven't been putting much thought into my character yet. However, the perks that interests me for use for my character would be:

2 - Lady Killer

4 - Educated

6 - Lead Belly or Bloody Mess

8 - Strong Back

10 - Animal Friend

12 - Long Haul or Robotics Expert

14 - Admantium Skeleton or possibly Jury Rigging

16 - Tag! or maybe Better Criticals.

18 - Computer Whiz, maybe? (the level 18 skills doesn't look too attractive to me, but...)

20 - Grim Reaper's Sprint or Solar Powered?

Those above 20 doesn't look that tempting to me, expect maybe Rad Absorption. I may also change muy mindf as my character develops. This list of mine is, however just a list of the perks that I may be interested in choosing for my character, but they're not the final choice by any means. Also, I'm likely to take Intense Training once or twice as well...

Overall I guess my character will be a sort of survivor/trader/smooth talker kind of character.

I'm well aware of that, professor. I'm planning on getting those surgical upgrades that are supposed to be really expensive.

As long as its not faction controlled.

Wonder if if you can only get certain ones if you join certain sides and factions.

Okay so they changed fire-based weapons to Energy Weapons.
Then how come Pyromaniac requires 60 Explosives?
Makes no sense to me.

Anyone catch that Nerd Rage now offers +15 to Damage Threshold? I sense a x2 Toughness / Nerd Rage build in my future... shrugging off 21 damage + whatever power armor grants seems like it might make you pretty hard to finally put down.

Someone make a flash char planner like for F3 already. My mind can't wrap around this.
Why has this been moved to Fallout 3 Cheats, Hints, and Spoilers when it specifically discusses the perks and character creation in the upcoming New Vegas?

You wouldn't consider theoretical deductions for better playing experiences, well, hints? ^_^

Afaik you can't get an implant to boost STR (kinda makes sense too, given that you can get a Power Armor and the Weapon Handling perk for +2 STR for purposes of... handling weapons.)

From what I understand you can only have one implant at I time, I may be mistaken though.

Implants are the only way to boost your SPECIAL points (or use Intense Training perk). They are done by a faction (Followers of the Apocalypse) for anywhere from a 1000 caps to tens of thousands (this is what the guide says). They include a +1 boost to Agility, Charisma, Endurance, Intelligence, Luck, Perception. There are two additional ones too. One boosts your Damage Threshold by +4 and another regenerates health.

I'm guessing the price will vary depending on the amount of implants already installed.

I was messing around with what I would like for perks, and came to realize that for what I want, I'm very restricted to how I can distribute my special points. When I calculate what I would need, I'm only left with 10 points for Str, Chr, and Luck. Assuming I max out my Int at the start. I'm not sure what kind of effect having low Chr and Luck in New Vegas will have.

(2) Friend of the Night - I think its a great way to add a touch of reality to make it that we will have to adjust to lightning in this game. I will be superior in this regard.
(4) Cannibal - Better not come around my abandoned shack
(6) Lead Belly - Sometimes I might not have a corpse to gorge on so i need some thing to make the toilet water more palatable
(8) Terrifying Presence - With this I'm really gearing myself to be feared
(10) Animal Friend - I'll be the wild cannibal who doesn't have to worry about animals attacking
(12) Silent Running - Even better for me to sneak up on my drunken prey in the new vegas
(14) Animal Friend - Now I'll be the wild cannibal who has animals attacking with him (beware the desert!)
(16) Travel Light - ok going back to a level 4 perk at this point means that i can chase my victims down or outrun some crazy mutant on my tail
(18) Chemist - they say there are going to be new drugs in vegas? gotta double the pleasure with this one
(20) Ninja - Because i'm going to be real sneaky
(22) Solar Powered - to give me that extra bit of survivability in the wasteland
(24) Night Person - not many perks to choose from at this level, might as well go back and pick up this one... night or day i'll be vicious

i think i'll leave it at that for now... i think there are many more perks to be revealed. can we actually get a new perk every 2 levels... thats a lot of perks.

So apparently you have to have an unknown endurance score to get those medical implants. And knowing this game it's going to be a number above six. Well isn't that just FAN [censored] TASTIC? Thanks a lot, [censored]s. I was actually looking forward to playing this [censored] until now.

Calm down, all info points to there being a limit to the amount of implants you can get which is based on your endurance. Which is reasonable, if you are too frail, your body might not be able to handle the additions to it.

admittedly I only spent a few min on the plan so far but ...

I only need 35 points or so in unarmed to reach the 70 needed by 12th level.. and ill have 110 plus points by then

I only need around 45 into melee by level 20 and around 60 into sneak to get ninja and by then ill have 190 plus minus the 35 I needed in unarmed so I have room to spare.. not alot but room

And finaly by 24 I need anouther 20 in unarrmed and will have gotten anouther 40 plus...

And before the end ill have gotten 290 plus skill points and only need around 150 ish to max my tagged skills so have plnety for sneak and a bit of repair with room left over for other stuff. And thats without any books.
