Playing from Disc or HDD (360)

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 6:18 pm

Will the patch be essential to be able to play the game? Becuase what about people who don't have ANY xbox live connection?
No you can play it out of the box, you might have some texture issues if you install it to the harddrive but Nole's post a page back might clear that issue. You may also have other beth issues since it's almost impossible to release a game bug free so you'll have to wait for the GOTY edition or get the patch from elsewhere like a USB thing.

Please forgive my technological ignorance, but I've got a question--

I recently switched internet providers (I used to access the internet with my 360 with a modem) and it's going to be well into December before I have my wireless adapter.

Is it possible to install Skyrim to my HDD, download a patch from the Bethesda site onto a CD/DVD disc, then install to X-Box ?
Yes you download the patch on a USB like device, (either USB, External Hard drive, Ipod, or other) from Xbox online, there should be an option for the patch, and then download onto the Xbox.

I saw another photo of a snowy area with the Tree having low textures. To me personally I don't it as a big deal, reminded me a lot about Oblivion in that shot. That game had a lot of problems with Textures but then again that was a new gen game at the time and new tech too. Regardless these next 76 hours will be a pain until I get to play and see how big of an issue this really is.

You have to re-download any patches for a game after doing it.
Well largest patch i ever downloaded on 360 was 8 MB for NV and that took less than 2 sec so i think it's worth it :P

Even on Dial Up connection it shouldnt take more than 15 minutes for that, and like i said that was largest patch ever.
Most patches are 2-4MB.

apparently there will be a day 1 patch but whether or not it will resolve this issue is still uncertain.

guys, you do realize that bug might be on PURPOSE to prevent leaked copies from functioning well and also to prevent people who get game early from enjoying it too much?I know it might seem unusual but they could call it punishment for others who don't respect their deadline. It's possibly doing that bug on purpose and will be fixed in day 1

If that's the case, they would have made it a bigger difference as the texture isn't at all dramatically different from what is seen in pictures. And they would not purposely put a glitch in a game that is easily avoidable as just playing it off the disk.

You should not add conspiracies to these forums :nono:

my god you must be dumb buddy Bethesda already announced at pax 2011 that it would run ALOT better while installed to the 360 HDD

just like being installed on a PC or a PS3 it works alot better

now you don't have to speculate

this thread should be closed for fear mongering !!!!!!!

Nah. Do they want to get bad reviews from every big game sites and magazines that play the game early for a review on release day? That would be nuts. Also why would you break your game in hopes of having a patch to fix it on release day... Just doesn't seem logical to me. You want perfection when you say "it's gold!"

Yea, only problem there is... wait for it... bugs happen. It's a regular part of game development and this very well may be one. Please, stop acting like know-it-all's and being condescending.

I don't think that's the big picture. They can always say it's a bug intended and with day 1 patch waiting for it.Don't forget reviewers can be sent a message before with ''This bug will specifically happen to prevent leaked copies so dont install the game''. I know it sounds crazy but to me it seems a decent way to make leaked copies seem wrong since the usual reflex for 360 games is to install right away. why? It doesn't require disc spinning except for checking if the game is legit so therefore everyone would assume installing on the hard would make sense.

Sounds complicated but I think I understood it though. It sounds similar to what New Vegas had, it dealt with something similar with caches and you had to deal with that every 3 hours. I don't think Skyrim is going to see a lag after 3 hours but it does sound similar. I blame all of this on Softworks notoriously bad debugging, they are really bad at it, although they are doing it right this time by getting a day one patch. I do agree though I can't believe they missed this one.
I wouldn't say "bad", with the monster games they build its hard to find and fix all the bugs. Bethesda does a good job of support after the games shipped though so im not worried

Well we can both agree on the fact that we want it fixed on 11-11 :)

Yep we both agree but I don't think that will be an issue considering the fact they said that will be fixed with the patch coming friday. The only worry is about people without internet connection and without silver account. They are the unlucky ones.

Someone should probably tweet Pete regarding this issue as to get some peace of mind whether it's being fixed in the day one patch.

I'd be curious to know if the day one patch will be ready for those playing the game after getting it at a midnight release. That is assuming this is a real issue, then further assuming that it will be fixed by the day one patch.

That sounds...odd to me. I would think installing would produce the better textures. I mean...yeah, that makes no sense. You have a link with screens for that?
No reason why a disk load should give better textures, just longer load times as the disk is way slower than an HDD.
If true it's an bug and will be patched.
And no an HDD install will not give better textures as they are limited by memory and GPU, even if you could add an extra disc with high resolution textures.

HDD install actually does 1 thing only: It avoids the use of the disc all the time.It only runs every time you start the game and that's it.I have an xbox 360, so I should know :D

Does that mean if I don't install the game on my 360 the graphics will look the same as the game installed ?
Because I still hesitate between my 360 and PS3...
