Playing from Disc or HDD (360)

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 1:25 am

Does that mean if I don't install the game on my 360 the graphics will look the same as the game installed ?
Because I still hesitate between my 360 and PS3...

360 will be better optimized, it's main development was on the 360 and then ported on the ps3

Well my main question is: if I don't install the game on the Hard drive, will the graphics look the same as Installed ?
Cause I have the old version of the 360 with only 4 gig.
Or can i install the game on a USB flash disk ?

They will, but it's very risky since dvd will be used continuously and accidents are happening quite easily . Let alone the fact you could scratch the disc because your sibling came in when you were playing and pushed your xbox for fun(just giving an example).

Then make sure no one touches your Xbox when you play Skyrim and BUY warranty!

Refurbished hard drives are cheap nowadays for the 360... buy yourself one.

I have not found anything about this on google. All I have read is that the xbox 360 version in general suffers from texture-loading issues.

"Multiple people have reported it"

Yeah, alright buddy!
Umm... you think I'm lying to you?

There is a topic on Gamefaqs in which multiple people say they have this problem. I did not use the word "reported". I said that multiple people claimed they had this issue... which they did.

Simmer down.

No... The Xbox 360 install is 3.8 gb, Now the PS3 is 5.5 gb (required install) as its Blu Ray drive reads slowly so a bigger install makes sense.
This has nothing to do with BluRay drive speed.

It would make sense, if both were partial installs and the one from the PS3 is larger to overcome the slow drive speed and the Xbox drive is fast enough to install less.
But that's not the case.
The install on the Xbox360 is 3.8GB for the full game, the 5.5 on the PS3 is only a partial install, not the full game.
The game is for whatever reasons vastly larger on the PS3 which is normally a very good sign for the PS3 version.

Even assuming it is actually a problem, they will likely have it fixed with the day 1 patch. So in the meantime, everything is speculation and a whole lot of blah blah blah. Move on.

ok so Ive looked at the comparison photos and the difference is quite scary. I would guess the crew over at bethesda know of it and will be fixing it on the day 1 patch..but any word on it from them confirming it will be fixed day 1?

No confirmation yet but you can guarantee they're going to be patching it. A day 1 patch has already been confirmed. No word on what it fixes yet but I assume that's one of the things. They said they'll announce what the patch fixes on the day of release.

Also N4G.com has an article on exactly this!

There is a difference but to me personally it's not a big deal. Graphics shouldn't be the reason why you get Skyrim, it should be one of the factors but not the main reason why you should've gotten the game.

You probably could get a 120GB harddrive for 50-60, I paid 60 last year for a used 120GB harddrive and I haven't had any problems with it.

Someone over on NEOGAF seems to have identified how to replicate the problem 100%.

Apparently according to him, it has nothing to do whether the game is installed or running off disk.

The cause is: the in game menu
When you bring up the in game menu, the game world goes blurred, while you have the menu up (for faster menu loading), then when you close the menu and return to game, the items you're wearing go low res.

So to sum it up

Good textures
Bring up the menu & close menu
Bad textures

This dude seems to have replicated it 100% both installed and not installed and clearing HD cache.

So looks like the problem lies with the ingame menu not restoring' some textures after it has been closed.

I could reproduce this exactly.
