Playing from Disc or HDD (360)

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 1:59 am

I just wish Bethesda wasn't so quiet about these issues. I guess I shouldn't expect them to speak up seeing how the game isn't even released yet.

Any knowledge of whether this will affect the ps3 as well. I mean will the hdd have lower textures on the ps3 rather than playing the disk?

Multiple people have claimed that this is a problem and there are multiple pictures that seem to back up their claims.

It's definitely not just the picture quality. There is a very clear difference in texture quality in the comparison pictures.
Again, rumors spread fast enough. Put something like that on the net, and it spreads 1,000 fold. Throw in a couple of "Copy Cats", and it blows up. Is there an issue? Without anything official, I will say no. Not now, anyway.

I have not found anything about this on google. All I have read is that the xbox 360 version in general suffers from texture-loading issues.

"Multiple people have reported it"

Yeah, alright buddy!

Can someone describe the difference between non installed and installed photos without giving me a link or showing them. It's got me worried that the game might not be playable for me at launch and unfortuantely I'm stuck with version 1.0 due to no Xbox live.

Seems like even if it was a minor bug, its probably allready been wipped. I just hope all the people playing leaked copies or early (non-press) releases have their xbox explode. Teach them to [censored] about a game they shouldent be playing.

Ye i'd like some official word on that too. Are those issues really present? Are patch 1.1 fixes them?

Idk about textures, but yes, load times are much faster when installed, especially with big open games like skyrim. However theres also the fact that when the games installed, the disk doesn't spin and the lens doesn't move, resulting in about 95% less sound. Also the there is allot less heat produced by the xbox. The amount that I plan on playing skyrim, my xbox would probably melt if I didn't have it installed

This is a fail troll post, or the OP is just a fool.

Just found only ONE thread about this on google/yahoo. The guy who had the early version of the game says that it is only a 3.2gb download, then he posts screenshots of the differences. Considering it is a 5.5gb install on the 360, this is a complete joke and no one should listen to this.

Pretty sure there's more than one place where this is being discussed. I've searched and found a couple with multiple people stating the same thing, now this by no means confirms the issue but still, it could exist.

I've seen a few different comparison images, the HDD textures look blotchy in some areas, like weapons and a few placed objects From the disc the same objects/weapons look much better. Gamespot has a good discussion going on about it with a lot of screens from multiple people.

Saw one of the comparasion photos between disc and HDD, there is a slight texture problem on the HDD photo but to me personally I don't see it as a big deal. I mean it's still a 1000 times better then Oblivion and Graphics aren't 100% important (Points to Morrowind). If this doesn't cause any type of game issues where Glitches, Freezing and other related stuff occur then it's not a big deal. Is it annoying yes but it's not the end of the world. I'm relieved but still need to see it up close and personal before fully judging it.

Like I just said, how do you know with certainty. Have you personally sat down and investigated this issue with your own 360 and a copy of Skyrim? I doubt you have, so stating this is about as good as saying you're Santa Claus.

I'm not trying to lend any credit to the rumors here, but those who mindlessly defend things without any real knowledge aren't helping. I think it's fair to be concerned about such a possibility regarding the textures, but everyone here needs to stop taking the extreme of either side.
Why would installing a game to your hard drive hurt you? Please explain. Also, you need to take it easy. :spotted owl:

Installing the game on the HDD will make load times faster and textures will be better

Not installing it and just playing from the disc will be worse

Same thing with BF3, Xbox users have the option to install it, the install makes textures better
BF3 has a separate disc with high res textures on it and you have to install it to play the game with better textures, Skyrim is all on one disc... but playing from the HDD should allow 2-3x faster loading of all data, so textures should load quicker, maybe this issue is a glitch? (if its a real issue that is)

First play I'm not gonna want to wait for the install, so disk, after that, maybe install, depends on how much I want to play. :D

Please read the thread. It hurts you because of a bug with the HDD install that displays textures at lower res than running off the disc.

It could possibly be a bug that causes textures to not load correctly (not saying it's 100% however), that's why. Have you not read anything in the thread?

Also, I am taking it easy, but it is a little irritating when people say things without taking the time to read what the topic is actually about.

It's not 100% of the time but there are moments from what I've heard that the texture or textures don't look or load right. I don't think it's that big of a deal but I'll wait until I have Skyrim in my hands before I judge it as bad or good.
