Please change graphics back to pre-patch state

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 9:33 pm

Ive definetly noticed a major change in textures (especially grassy areas), but the most noticable thing to me is that the DRAW DISTANCE, has been lowered DRASTICALLY.

I really dont know why some dont see this on their PS3, but for me ITS DEFINETLY CHANGED since installing the new update.

To me there is nothing worse than a company hiding behind falsehoods.

Yes always an excellent idea to personally attack mods.

If you've seen a difference in graphics or textures then something is goofy with your install in general and I'd recommend totally blowing away your install and all the patch data, and then re-installing. If they had done something to reduce the draw distance and texture quality absolutely everybody would be seeing it. Since not everyone is experiencing what you claim to be seeing, then it's something more specific to some systems and not deliberately caused by the patch.

I too have not noticed any change in the graphics. The game look exactly the same to me as it did pre-patch. Are the people that are experiencing the "low resolution" issue possibly now running in 720p, when before they (somehow) were able to get Skyrim to run in the advertised 1080i?

Just throwing out ideas. And believe me, I would be the first one to holler if I noticed a difference.

Anyone with a game resolution reduced to 10 pixels and a draw distance of 1 meter, could you upload a vid to youtube or something. If would be very fun to see how that looks. I'm guessing like minecraft played on a C64.

Your saying Gstaff is lying? Ffs he just told you they didn't do anything that would affect the visuals, what you are experiencing is something that was there pre-patch. Go back and reload a new saved game .

What I am experiencing is not that graphical glitch of textures not loading the high resolution version.
Yes Gstaff is misleading the people here although I do not know if he is lying as he may have been told nothing was changed that will effect the graphics of the game in any major way.
Overall most people will not notice the graphic changes, this is normal I notice this in my graphical design day job. However some of us will notice the changes and they are blatantly obvious.

FOV, field of view has changed. Pull out your weapons, that is not the same view you previously had.
AA, aa has been turned off completely. The jagged edges referred to as jaggies are blatantly obvious and glitter like no tomorrow. This did not happen before the patch.
Particle Count, smoke, fire all look to be toned way down. Mist is no longer thick and beautiful as it once was.
Shadows and lighting, The light number count appears to have been reduced, and the shadow quality has as well. Shadow count has been reduced and no longer behave the same, they jitter and jump with giant blocky edges. This was not existent before patch
Fog no longer exists, once you used to see a beautiful fog as you looked out from on top of a mountain now it is crystal clear revealing every jagged edge and lacks the nice beautiful effects that made the game sixy.

Telling me there have been no changes is a blatant lie.

And everything you're listing there still looks exactly the same to me post-patch. If you could actually post before and after screens of what you're describing that would help quite a lot (especially since plenty of others have posted before and after screens/videos showing no change to graphics at all).

My game was working and looking fine BEFORE this update though (except a little lag). Your telling me the ONLY ones who are not seeing any issues, are those who totally uninstalled the game and their saves, giving them a "clean install" if you will?.

According to that guy (forget his name maybe Peter something?) he said that we wont have to loose our progress to get the benefit of the new patch. I guess someone is lying somewhere, and i can honestly say, id even SWEAR on my dads grave that i am not the one LYING, or making anything up.

Something has changed graphically since this new update and i don't know why some have this issue, and then some don't. If it was on PC then yes that's much easier to explain, due to the varying components. But this is on a PS3 and not PC.

I had Minor framerate issues to begin with, the patch has fixed my problems, and there is no difference in textures or resolution.

I have seen one comparison in an area that does not illustrate the issue and a compressed youtube video that would HIDE the issue. Some high resolution 1.1 and 1.2 screenshots of the same location lets say inside the white run house after it has been upgraded.
There has been no comparisons of 1.1 and 1.2 posted at all. Give me a way to revert to 1.1 and I would attempt to give you the evidence you need granted you probably still wouldn't see it due to the fact you do not see it now.

It was for me. I wonder if somehow some people actually escaped this issue pre-patch?
There was a glitch before that would cause them to do that when you were playing for a while. However they were not always like that, and also there is now less dynamic lighting and less shadows.

No, for me they have always done (and continued to do) that, even when I have just started the game. I fear that perhaps you somehow escaped this pre-patch but now you're like everyone else (who has probably gotten used to it). This would account for the discrepency and some people really noticing the difference.

I work in computer design all day, and i do notice a major difference in how it looked before and after. I guess my eyes are trained to look for that kind of thing on a daily basis.

I really wish someone could explain why some get this graphical issue and some dont. Thats the confusing part.

That is the key man, people like you will notice the changes as you actually see details.
They figured no one would notice the changes, because it is true that most people will not notice details. However to people like myself there is a massive change and it now hurts my eyes to play.

Gstaff, what was done to improve performance then?
From playing the game I have noticed a smaller FOV as weapons cover the entire view, Used to be able to see my entire sword however now i only see the handle and part of the blade. Dual elven war axes cover my screen and no longer pulse just remain a constant purple glow.

To say nothing was done to change the graphical quality is a joke. Perhaps the xbox settings were accidently released with the ps3 patch, as that is what my game now looks like.
My dawnbreaker pulses.

Exactly.

Surely they know something must be up because they should be much better trained than myself. If not, then they really need to get better detail oriented persons working there. I can notice there is a change yet they cannot??.

Total BS.

That's correct. The edges are still very smooth and that's not possible without any AA.
What's even more strange with this claim: The FXAA in Skyrim for the PS3 is set too strong which causes the slight blur even on textures. If they had really disabled AA with the new patch probably everyone would cheer how much better the textures look and the sharpness of the game overall. But that's not the case.
So no, AA is certainly not disabled.

Playing a glitching game for a lengthy amount of time and saving the game after the glitches have happened causes the save file to become corrupted. Some users have more corrupted save files than others or files that are corrupted from different glitches.

This means that a multitude of problems can manifest themselves without it actually being a problem with the game and patch (though undoubtedly due to the game pre-patch).

I haven't installed the patch, so I can't really comment on it. But people are quick to call folk who say they have graphical reduction, liars over reacting, or stupid. Really? With all the bugs and BS wrong with this game has nobody thought, what if they are being truthful. It could be a bug or glitch that has affected their graphics, it could be random like many of the problems with this game, or it could have already been present but was not showing itself until after the patch. Whatever the case is really irrelevant, the point is people are having issues with their games. And at the same time their peers who should be understanding and potentially trying to help resolve a problem are too busy telling you that you don't know what the hell you're talking about.

It's a wonder anybody gets helped, any Bethesda personnel finds any prevalent information, or anything worthwhile gets done. If this patch is indeed garbage, it's no damn wonder. They have to wade through all this [censored] to find "problems" that may not even be problems because other people aren't experiencing them or they experienced it first so now it's no longer an issue. Seriously, do you even want the game "fixed" or do you just want to complain about how broke it is and how if other peoples games aren't broke or miraculously perfectly working like yours yours then they're lying or stupid?

Fact: The game has problems.
Fact: The patch did not fix all those problems.

Everything else is just an expression of your personal experience.

To follow up on Union's helpful remarks: I work in production and spend 5 of my 8-hour days, 5 days a week, poring over giant mock-ups of book cover designs in various formats, CGI illustrations, and ebook designs online, for the most miniscule of errors. There IS a difference in the texture quality, especially water texture quality, as well as in the fog effects, since downloading the patch. Whether this is universal, I obviously cannot say. But for me, it's there.

op, i think your mind is playing tricks on you, i bet you read that random article about the patch downgrading the graphics.. i know i did, and was very conscious of it when playing after the patch, and i thought i noticed the dynamic shadows to seem abit more glitchy.., but there really just the same...

put it like this, if you have to stop and stare at some texture in the game, and your thinking they might look abit downgraded, and you cant really tell and u keep checking them out.. just move the f*** along and play the game, nothings changed
