Pony Effect Thread #62

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 9:51 am

Good morning. In less than an hour, gamers from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest internet battle in the history of gaming.
Gaming -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today.
We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore.
We will be united in our common interests.

Perhaps its fate that today is the 17th of March, and you will once again be fighting for our games, not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution -- but from Bioware.
We're fighting for our right to game, to have our decisions matter.
And should we win the day, the 17th of March will no longer be known as the 17th of March, but as the day when gamers declared in one voice:

"We will not go quietly into the night!

We will not vanish without a fight!

We're going to live on!

We're going to survive!

We're going to have more than red, blue or green!

Our decisions are going to matter!"

Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!

+1 to you sir. My day is made.

Did BGS outwrite EA BioWare this time?

Not in my opinion. Aside from the ending, the writing in ME3 is fairly good. ME3 still features memorable characters and dialogue, something I cannot say about Skyrim. The scene with Garrus shooting bottles on the Citadel... fantastic.

I agree. Nearly everything else in Mass Effect 3 (singleplayer that is) is extremely well done. The game is fantastic right up to the last 2 minutes.

i must say, BioWare did a grand job with Thessia. Been playing games for over 20 years now and nothing has come close to the emotions i felt after completing that particular segment of the game. The sense of anger and utter dejection was like nothing else i have ever encountered whilst playing a game.

I agree. What is most annoying about the "boss" is that he survives only due to his plot armor. Hell, just did it again, and all the fight took was three headshots with Javelin  "Assassin" my ass

:lmao: Well, like i said in BSN: "Atleast ME3 has an ending. And a story. Skyrim has an excuse to kill dragons."

The sense of anger and utter dejection was like nothing else i have ever encountered whilst playing a game. It's the only time I've ever connected with a fictional character in a game. So much so, I had to switch the game off for an hour or so to calm down.
I hate it when game designers do that. Making the player lose due to cinematic incompetence is entirely unwarranted. If you want the player to lose as part of the plot, the opponent should really be unbeatable. The first fight against Desaan in Jedi outcast is a great example. He's got force powers, you don't, and he mops the floor with you.

Spoiler

Kai Leng is the opposite of that. He's a pansy you feel like you can easily crush under your hermetically sealed boot. Losing due to cutscene incompetence is a cheap cop-out.

When they put their mind to it - there was a sequence in ME3 that was an absolut e gaming highpoint for me.
Spoiler
(The three missions on Rannoch and the resolution I worked for across all three games, really. Well, mostly 2 and 3, but still. )
And yeah, EDI grew on me.
That and a sequence before the ending was incredible. Definitely some jawdropping moments within the game.

Did BGS outwrite EA BioWare this time?

Nope although I would argue that Fallout 3's ending is better then ME3's ending and Skyrim's journal is better then ME3's (Can't believe I'm saying that because Skyrim's journal is terrible).

Yeah, I do not like when devs have a boss that you can't hit. It's bs.

As for your gratuitous dig at Skyrim, let it go man. Two different styles of game.

Yeah, i suppose that was unnecesary. But Bethesda's game aren't ones i look for when i want a story, and i never fail mention that. In the vain hope they get the hint ;)

I had the Black Widow at that point, and was using fully spec'd armour-piercing and disruptor ammo.

Bang. Bang. Cutscene.

Wow, I finally seen the CNN mention. It goes beyond a few seconds. The guy goes into some detail as to why we're mad at the ending. Though he gets it wrong by stating we're getting downloadable content to fix the game. Oh well, despite that it's good press for the cause. This movement can only grow, and I look forward to seeing what Monday holds. Though the real day of judgment is PAX East.

I could also apply some to SOPA if you want.
Oh wow. That is awesome sauce.

:swear: It's so annoying when journalists who know nothing about a topic, cover that topic.

Oh wow. That is awesome sauce.

Uh huh...

I wonder if the community was able to achieve the 1,000,000 Brutes killed. I know I contributed with well over 100 myself.

Does Galactic Readiness really decrease over time or was it because I lost a few battles?
It was first at 97%, then dropped to 94% and then jumped to 98% when I beat a Gold reaper challenge.

It will automatically lower after sometime has passed. Bioware's way of forcing more MP playtime I guess.

Wow, that's just sad. What is it always - you make an already controversial element to your game and then ruin it even further by adding crap like this you KNOW people won't like.

IMO, adding an element like this isn't necessarily bad - it's only a bad move when it decreases as rapidly as they have it. Maybe every other day have it go down by, say 3-5%.....not the 5-8% I see every time I turn the game on.

Stupid Thessia plot device boss. I could have taken him out with four shots of my Geth shotgun. He didn't move one bit through the entire battle. Could have finished that bastard...

I don't think it should decrease at all since it's a strictly single-player element. There is absolutely no excuse to have it decrease except force users to play multiplayer more than they want.

Spoiler
And now Kai Leng even sent me e-mail gloating about how he beat me! Are you kidding me? Without that stupid gunship he would have been down in five seconds.

P.S. it was a good call to bring the Prothean dude to Thessia. Lots of interesting dialogue.

Spoiler
I killed him. He found about how I sabotaged Genophage cure and tried to kill me so I blew him out of a window. Got 3 Renegade interrupts to shoot the crap out of him :D

I can't blame you in regards to what I've said before in a past thread (or maybe it was this thread, idk) that "what happens when nobody is playing this online anymore down the road?".
