Don't see why not, all I had played up until then were Populos: The Beginning, Baldurs Gate, Starcraft, Warcraft II and Little Big Adventure and others that didn't have enough of an imprint on my brain for me to remember.
Not like children of the past were any more geniuses than children of the present can be.
Though I find it hard to believe that a 12 year old would be able to stand the graphics of Fallout 2. :(

Yes but this generation amazes me. They watch to much jersey shore.

In the days of my youth it wasn't quite this bad. In the days of my youth I used to play Mario with my friends.

Yah i think now a days kids get stuff handed to them. IMO. I use to play my N64 back in the day which wasnt that long ago but long enough.
