The new skin, thread 2

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 3:24 am

Ah, I see they just now fixed the width issues. The forums are now using my whole screen. Bueno.
That's odd, they were filling my whole screen before, now its really narrow.

EDIT: And now it's good again!

I'd appreciate not having to click on the page # or # to then enter a number in a box just to skip to a thread page.

for individual threads that are only 7 (for some 11) pages long - just show every page number. It is not as if the amount would overwhelm the screen.

2 more questions:

- is the 60 second thing gone?

- are threads still being locked at 200 posts?

60 second post is gone.... at least for now. I tested it yesterday and was able to post 2 posts in about 10 seconds

As for the 200 post count, I guess we will find out soon enough as this has now reached over 200

Now is looking better. Yesterday it had a big ass wide empty space on the left. I like how they have your avatar displayed as to who was the last to post. Is interesting that they are using green colors for the pin topics. I've never seen Beth using green colors in their interface. Is this Microsoft influence?

Btw, I don't like how the edited notice at the bottom is glaringly yellow. Is as prominent as a signature. In my view, the color should be kept low key like faint grey as before.

It's not gone, it was just reduced from 60 seconds to 30 seconds.

I miss my pop up menu at the bottom of the page for quickly moving through sub-forums. Also, I can no longer see whos online! What is this madness!

Ah, that's great! they toned down the bright yellow of the "edited by.." I have one simple suggestion. I've noticed that they got rid of the date a member joined the forums. That's sad. I think you guys should display the date of join because that's like a earned badge sort to speak. Kudos for displaying the amount of posts but PLEASE bring the date of join back. Is our only true "badge" of being here in the good times and bad times. In fact, being a patriarch or have 10,000 post is not as powerful as the date of join. Thank you, the new layout is getting better and thank you for listening to our feedback.

Btw, just add the year and not necessarily "joined XX" if you guys think is too long.

If admins and people who can change things are listening to this ... which is cool ... here is a request. Not sure if it is possible.

Probably the most used form or formatting I and many others use in writing our posts is the spoiler tag.

Quotes not so much because we can simply hit quote on the post we are replying to ... or multi-quote - though I've never been able to figure that one out.

I'd really appreciate a button for just spoiler. I know there is a menu I can go through to get to it, but this would speed things up quite a bit.

thanks

You do know you can actually type the bbcodes out yourself? if you want speed, you can't beat typing, as lifting your hands off your keyboard to use the mouse is the single biggest impediment to speed that there is. just type

[ s p o i l e r ] stuff [ / s p o i l e r ]

yourself (without the spaces, obviously). I almost always end up typing my own bbcodes because it's so much faster than any button or menu will ever be.

If you want to be super-cool use a text expander (like http://lifehacker.com/238306/lifehacker-code-texter-windows or http://www.phraseexpress.com/ ) and you can have it automatically change some special key combo to the spoiler tags with your cursor in the middle of the spoiler tags

Umm yeah ... yeah I knew that.

I type fast but often what I'm doing is copying things in to then hide with spoilers. Not hiding some inane plot twist about the game I can't wait to geek on. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1313005-relz-wrye-bash/page__view__findpost__p__19854690

Still not as fast as copying in a bit of code or whatever I'm spoilering then highlighting and clicking a button.

If we had that next to the quote button that would be great.

So thanks for third party app suggestions, but this was directed at the admins who are apparently taking suggestions. Why go to the third party apps if you can get change at the source?

Any comments in support of the idea?

That's what I always do. :goodjob:

There is just one smiley I can't for the life of me remember and that's the one with the guy panicking. It's aaa or aah or ahh and I never know which one :ahhh:
