The new skin, thread 2

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 7:35 am

Well as someone pushing patriarch status and joined in late 2008 - I see your point. but ultimately disagree.

I've earned most of my posts/stars in the mods forums of the game - pretty much exclusively. I see others with as many posts and I never see them in the mods forum, but they are all over the community threads.

Doesn't matter when they join as much because a person could still only sign up and post a few nonesense words in threads and do that every 6 months. Or they get a new username every year but are as old as daggerfall dirt.

This info is just not telling enough in that regard - and if you don't agree - post 5000 more then we can talk.
People who post nonsense word get banned, and I was exploiting a stereotype to prove a point.
I'm not sure where your posts were earned makes much of a difference, mine were in Elder Scrolls Series Discussion before the overhaul if I recall correctly (which is a pretty slow forum)\

Hell, back in 07 you could get to post limit on a "funny news article" thread and CD was one of the busiest areas of the forum, it seems quite dead nowadays.

This is disgusting.

Also there needs to be an option to hide the pinned threads. They take up so much room.

where a person posts to me is more telling than how many stars or how long a member.

El Joe-
One of the best suggestions I've read for these forums yet!

Forget all this status stuff that is a real option worth considering - have the pinned threads at least collapsible. Set to do so in a settings area of something.

LOL, just logged in and I thought I was in the wrong game forum. Oh boy, they changed the interface again. This new interface is a bit all over the place. I wonder if the same people who created the Skyrim pc UI had anything to do with this design. What's with the big ass empty space on the left? For future ads I suppose?

Yes, please. Or at least condense the pinned threads a bit.

He has had other accounts in the past, Crow.

As have I, as have I.

I know I complained a bit about the green on IP.Board earlier but it's better now. Maybe they changed it or maybe the sun getting all bright and whatnot made it less in my face. And on the issue of not being able to see who is browsing/posting, I think it'd be cool to see who is browsing a forum but not a thread.

Edit: Didn't notice before but you can't view a user's signature in their profile.

I'd just like to see a whole lot more functionality added to the forum. The ability to embed media and the removal of the post limit would be at the top of my list. -- yeah I've read the explanation as to why there is a post limit, but it itself states that the newer technologies could support it.

That would be nice. Some of them are quite stale now, or not really of interest to everyone (by which I don't mean the rules, though that's probably true as well!)

The ability to embed media

From what I've heard, there's a very good reason that feature was removed.

I swear Exorince mentioned once that he was able to hide the pinned threads. He needs to share his secrets with the rest of us.

I've removed all the stuff that I don't like, made the text a bit bigger, made the user bar follow the screen and stretched everything out a bit. Now I just need to get rid of the pinned threads and I'm all set.

It's next to impossible to police what media is embedded before it is posted, so all sorts of nasty images can be put straight into a post.

Yes, I've seen it abused before (on the Bioshock forum during its release). But it seems like an extreme solution to remove the functionality completely. Kind of like throwing the baby out with the bath water. If the forum had a high priority report button the community could help police undesirable content. I'm not saying that there is an easy solution to the type of abuse that you're referring, it's just that the loss of freedom and responsibility is a real shame.

Maybe he'll share in his UI tweak addon

I've no major issues with these new boards so far. That I can't remember what the old one's looked like worries me more.

No thanks on the media one. Not when I know what people here would embed.

btw, are they going to re-add the list of people viewing/replying in a forum/topic or is that gone for good? I haven't been able to follow the threads about the changes.

I really hate it. It looks sleek, but it functions relatively poorly (okay, but not great), or at least I can't figure out how it functions. I have to click additional things I've never had to before (it lacks more clearly presented information at times) and reading it can be somewhat irritating.

The new layout is and aesthetic is okay, but developers PLEASE re-widen the forum, I can learn to accept these new changes, but not this cramped text thing, it makes me feel slightly of a headache. Please stop trying to entice people with that 'NEW PEOPLE LIKE SLEEK FORUMS!' when it's caused more people than just myself discomfort physically.

I think they followed Todd's theme: "What would Apple do?"

The only thing missing that bothers me is the Forum Jump that was in the lower right hand corner of the old Forums. Other than that I really do not have any complaints.

it's now in the top-right corner and is a quick list. It's not nearly as useful in this form as the forum jump was IMO.

Well, since this is basically the "Unofficial New Skin Nitpicking Thread", I will add another annoyance: I dislike how it no longer says who posted last under the thread name. I have a large screen and it's rather annoying to need to look all the way to the right.
