Prey 2 fake countdown site

Post » Sat Mar 02, 2013 2:12 am

I'm not saying it is or is not real.....just that if it is fake then I will be pissed that they allowed so much speculation for so long without correcting it. I agree that everything is pointing to it being legit. For every fan I hope it is real, we have been begging for this game for 2 year's.

I agree, if this is fake and it is just left alone to create false hope... then that is just wrong.

Wait, you mean you're going to be pissed at the people who made the website if it's not official? I'd be more pissed at Bethesda for not saying something earlier.

Actually no, I'm more upset at Bethesda's lackluster response about the website after hearing nothing about Prey 2 for months. If they secretly have something to do with it, then why lie and say they don't... just wait six more days before responding. If they don't have anything to do with it and they put effort to make a public statement about it... why they hell did they just mumble something about the website? Why not actually take the opportunity to tell everyone what's going on with Prey 2?

How hard is it to tell the public the game is still on hold, been canceled, actively being worked on with or without Human Head? If the game is floating dead in the water, then please... just sink it. Get rid of this forum, get rid of Facebook. They did make the effort to completely remove it from their main website. Why do that, but not get rid of this forum? That's bonkers!

The fact that they still have this forum up with the Human Head logo suggests they're still working on it with Human Head. If that's the case, say something to the fans that still support it. If that's not the case, then remove it. How difficult is it to be a market person at that company?

On a side note, I don't think having logos up suggest anything illegal if it's a fansite. The logos aren't saying this is a Bethesda website or even a Human Head website. It's only saying that they are related to the subject of the website. Can you picture all the fansites out there that would be sued because they have the logo to the people that make the thing they're excited about on their webpage if Bethesda made a move like that? Imagine a hardcoe fan of Batman and they want people to know the awesome companies that made Arkham Asylum were Warner Brothers and Rocksteady Games? Is it illegal to acknowledge that?

I'll be frustrated if this website has nothing officially to do with Prey 2 and direct that at Bethesda, not some fans who want to play the game.

I think I had too much caffiene this morning.

All good points. We still don't know what the site specifically concerns, only that it it's Prey 2 related. Official or not, as a Prey 2 fan I want to see what this is.

Why does this forum and the Facebook page even exist, especially with the Human Head logo, when Bethesda hasn't addressed any concerns the community has about the state of the game? The last media we received was in August 2011, the last press October 2011 and the last official update was April 2012. That's almost a full year without any kind of support. Maybe Bethesda want people to forget about the game?

The only way I'd forget about this game is if it is declared dead and even then I might watch the E3 gameplay every so often. I do remember from a while back someone said (I think it was a Human Head dev) if you want Prey 2 info that you should bug Bethesda about it. So... maybe it is time to bug them?

OK so I went and found where I saw that. http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/human-head-pester-bethesda-is-you-want-to-play-prey-2/
Basically the main deal is as follows...
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Human Head designer Nathan Cheever has been communicating with fans about the game on Twitter, hoping to build support for the game since Bethesda’s gone quiet on the title.

“Bethesda’s captain of that ship, so I can’t officially speak for it,” https://twitter.com/NathanCheever/status/276760309518196737 at the beginning of December, “I’m not implying anything, only that Bethesda Softworks owns the rights and are the only ones that can legally say anything about Prey 2’s status.” When one fan mentioned that the game seemed fairly far along in development when shown in 2011, Cheever said that was the case. “I agree! It’d be great to get some good news soon.”
“It’s up to Bethesda to decide what to do with it. The best you can do is ask them they’re thinking, like [Bethesda marketing VP] Peter Hines,” said the designer.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

So that part I bolded and underlined in that segment isn't the greatest of signs, if this site is to lead to Prey 2 information then that quote implies that Bethesda would have to have involvement in the site.

I'm with you, Lurk101.

Is it asking for an update too much, Bethesda? What's going on with Prey 2?

As someone else said in this thread: The site has been up since early February/late January, why would Bethesda say that they have nothing to do with it when it's only a week left until revealing what it really is, why not sooner if it's not them?
Letting the fans be excited for so long and have their dreams crushed when it's so little time left.

Bethesda is a great gaming developing company, they're better than that.

Remember there is a distinction between the game developer, Bethesda Game Studios, and the publisher branch, Bethesda Softworks. The development studio has no impact or influence over Prey 2. Those decisions are made by the publisher.

I'm not sure, but the last post they made was way back in September! I'm sure if they drop by they will only say that nothing has changed, and they'll update us when they can. As a fan that's pretty unacceptable. We need a real update. At the very least give us a rough estimate on when we can expect news. Like, 'we can't talk about it right now, but later this year we'll share some Prey 2 details.' Is that too much to ask? The games already been announced, what's with all the secrecy?

Just a small question... if Bethesda owns the rights to the "Prey2" title, couldn't Human Head just release the game through a different publisher under a different name? Just curious.

Not that I don't like Bethesda, nothing like that, I'm just wondering :P

Not even if they removed everything that looked too closely resembling of Prey 1? You know, like removing Tommy and aliens that might have appeared in Prey1. Pretty much going through the game and removing things that tie it to Prey1 "too much."
I mean after all, Prey2 doesn't look all that like Prey1 really. If it weren't for the title, I (and I'm sure others) would never know the games were related from seeing the Prey2 footage. "Aliennoire" could make a nice title.

I'm sure a lawsuit would follow though, lol.

Edit: Oh and like I said, it's not that I don't want the game to be as it is. I would love to see it pull through and if Bethesda's going to do it then great. It's just frustrating to see this be under secrecy like some other things lately :T

They couldn't do that because Bethesda own Id Software whose proprietary engine, ID Tech 4, forms the foundation the game was built on. However, Bethesda doesn't own all the tech involved in Prey 2 including Human Head's renderer, which was completely rewritten by Brian Karris and Paul MacArthur. I don't think Human Head would just hand over the source code for that stuff considering everything that went down.

It's not outrageous to think that's why we haven't heard about the game in long. Bethesda's quality concerns don't sound remotely genuine. Reading every write up about Prey 2 since the 20th April delay seems to address that. The game looked phenomenal. They probably have to rebuild the entire engine, which Human Head had modified for over a decade, or game from scratch. Human Head started working on Prey in May 2001. After Raven, they had incredibly early access to Id Tech 4. We don't even know how much legacy stuff is in there.

Norm Nazaroff, Human Head programmer, goes into some detail about the engine changes in this Angry Joe interview (who btw seems totally smitten with the game!)

It's pretty awesome, right? Imagine how much it would've svcked if Bethesda delayed Dishonored amid rumours of fallout between the developer and publisher. After showing it off throughout the year and getting everyone hyped, they took away one of the most promising games on the horizon. Dishonored was hands down my favourite game last year, but what if everything went silent in April last year? Imagine if they didn't mention again on their blog, Facebook page, dodging questions at press events, on twitter and forums. Seems crazy, right?

I think everyone will agree with me when I say we want Prey 2 to come out and be a huge success for Bethesda. This is a product people care about, how much is that worth? It seems priceless to me. Fans shouldn't have to ask for an update from companies they support through purchases. I think making demands is pretty obnoxious, but then again so ignoring your fans...

Me too believes that if it was a pretender who made this site, then Bethesda would just drop it down the moment the official logos where uploaded there.
They wouldn't let the average Joe to claim he works for them,do they ?
But then why do they say that they don't have anything to do with this site ?
It just doesn't make sense. Perhaps a red herring ?

Regardless of what the site reveals on March 1st, I would like to thank all of you, the loose cabal of awesome individuals that you are, for the level of effort that has been put into providing information on this rather obscure conundrum that we have all had to endure.

Mr. Tibbs, You sir, I thank the most for all the research you've put into finding out what is really going on. I've found you commenting on a lot of other sites related to Prey 2 and I must say you've helped me uncover some info that I would have not gathered otherwise.

It really has been an annoying 2 years since P2 came to surface and I'm hoping that we get some sort of closure when this site presents itself on March 1st.

Prey 2 has been my MOST anticipated title for release ever since I heard of its inception and I had better get to play it. There is no game out there that I would rather be playing.

Once again, thank you all for the info. This forum is the best I've ever been on.

We don't have enough details about that site to know what it's intentions are. We just know a Bethesda spokesperson, in a carefully worded statement (http://www.pcgamesn.com/prey-2-website-bethesda-say-its-not-something-were-doing) said "I don't know what that is or who is doing it. It's not something we're doing." That said, I'm sure Bethesda have big Prey 2 plans for 2013. I mean Prey 2 is listed for a 2013 release on their Wikipedia page, so that's worth something, right guys?

If you do an archive search you can check out when Prey 2 was listed under "in development," on Bethesda's official page. Here's a couple of snapshots from May last year.
http://web.archive.org/web/20120529005323/http://www.gamesas.com/eng/index.php
http://web.archive.org/web/20120603045519/http://www.gamesas.com/eng/games/games_main.html

Maybe they removed it from there upcoming products because they want to focus only on released games. Oh wait, The Elder Scrolls Online's there. Well there goes that theory.
http://gamesas.com/en-us/games

Edit: Thank you very much, Abus7d A7tisan. I'm just a fan like everyone else here and I'm totally with you. Prey 2 is my most anticipated game bar none. All the folks on the board are really positive and supportive. Prey 2 looks incredible, I just really hope we get to play it one day.

Yes, I will most definitely continue to use this forum if and after this game is released.

By the way, has anyone had a looksies at the Nathan Cheever's webpage on
http://www.curiousconstructs.com/games/prey2/ ?

I found the images from the Radiant Editor Redesign quite interesting and snagged those dev photos.

Also MrTibbs, Cheever posted a link on his twitter to your "what we know" thread, not sure if you were aware, but I thought that was cool.

I have a buddy who worked on another Id Tech 4 game and he said what Human Head pulled off with the engine is close to a miracle, especially that unlike other gameplay presentations, Prey 2 wasn't running on a high-end PC but a 360 Dev Kit!

Awesome find, Abus7d A7tisan. Whenever I see an wireframe level layout, I shudder and think back to when I've foolishly tried my hand at level design. It's bloody tough! The Prey 2 levels must've been incredibly complicated considering they're comparable in size to a city in Assassin's Creed, except they can seamlessly transition from interiors to enormous vertical cities. Also, we've only seen the seedy Bowery, there are two other hubs (that you can freely travel between) on Exodus that we haven't even had a glimpse of. One's an affluent suburb premenantly drenched in sunlight and the other is nocturnal industrial nightmare. After going through my old magazine articles on Prey 2 it's dawned on me, maybe Bethesda decided it had too many good ideas for a single game and are going to piecemeal them out through future releases. Doom 4 - agile combat. Wolfenstein - you can holster your gun. Dishonored 2 - a tiled-locked open world alien-noire detective story involving your native American co-conspirator Tommy and, I guess for the sake of continuity, Corvo, playing off the regime and the Ceros Collective against one another while you uncover what you were up to during those missing years.

@ Lurk101: Man, that's so nice of him. It's pretty awesome to see a developer who really cares about their work. I definitely get the impression that Prey 2 wasn't just a paycheck for Human Head. Did you guys know that Human Head are one of the only remaining independent AAA game studios out there? Can you guys think of many others? Obsidian, Remedy and Gearbox come to mind but they're pretty rare. Also, last year Tim Gerritsen left Irrational Games to return to his Human Head compatriots. He's, and I'm not exaggerating here, probably the best person in the world at that particular job. That certainly bodes well for Human Head.

Being a Wisconsin resident and about 2-3 hours away from where Human Head is located it is my hope that someday after my education I will be able to call myself a Human Head employee. It is incredible for a studio of their size to be able to make games as good as theirs. They certainly have a bunch of talented people.
