PS3 Release for Dawnguard - Thread #14

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 10:39 am

They do care now, but not about the customers. The Dawnguard debacle has gotten more coverage than their previous screw-ups, and now they're trying to save face. They don't want to loose out on all the 20 dollar purchases customers could make, or the future 60 dollar games they could sell to us completely broken. Bethesda wants us to think they care about us, but they really care about keeping our wallets open.

I think you have a point there. I saw that even USA Today had a piece on this whole situation up the other day. In the past Bethesda flubbing has stayed mostly in the videogame industry, but with Skyrim busting well into the mainstream, this current misstep was bound to see much more attention.

Also, i been thinking about something. Sony has said absolutely nothing about all this...to the public. I think Sony may have been more involved beyond what we outside of the industry know. In fact i've got the gut feeling this latest response from Bethesda was prolly given at Sony's urging. Of all of that is wild conjecture at best, but if any bit of it turns out to be true later on, i hope ANY involvement from Sony turns out to be a good thing.

I doubt Bethesda will release Dawnguard if they have to sell it at a loss. I think the longer it takes, the less likely we'll see Dawnguard.

The reason Dawnguard isn't working is because Skyrim is basically held together with bubblegum and band-aids on the PS3. And now that Dawnguard isn't working, they have to scraqe off all the jury-rigged fixes and actually fix Skyrim as well.

I think the root issue that's slowly coming to light is that Skyrim is being held together with spit and bailing wire on ALL platforms.

Originally I had thought the same, but someone told me that Bethesda was having similar issues with releasing DLC for Oblivion and were able to rectify the problem by having it released on the disc itself (Knights of the Nine on the standard edition, Knights of the Nine/Shivering Isles on the GOTY/5th Anniversary editions). I'm not sure if this is all true or not, but if it is, I hope Bethesda will at least be able to get the DLC available on the PS3 through the inevitable GOTY Edition of Skyrim.

That won't end well for Bethesda, because by then a lot of people will be too angry and not want to spend another 60 dollars. I know I won't.

I think Sony hasn't said anything is because I think they are not involed with Beth in the way we think they are.

I would hope that if this happens, Bethesda would offer some sort of trade in program where people could trade in their existing copies of Skyrim (provided they were purchased new and not used) for the GOTY Edition. Bethesda would be smart to do this, even if it meant selling at a loss as it would smoothed their rapidly straining relationship with the PS3 userbase and would likely keep many people from boycotting their products in the future.

I think Sony might be mad at Bethesda too, if Bethesda is trying to blame Sony. Bethesda seems to be the only company that has this big of a problem releasing anything on the PS3, and Sony may have realized this as well. If anything, Sony is making sure Bethesda is actually fixing and working on Dawnguard like they says they are. Sony cares about their customers, that's why they apologized for the hacking attack and gave out free stuff.

They won't. There would be no way of telling who bought what, and how many people even still have their receipts.

Not only did they aplogized and give out free stuff but they shut down PSN told the world what hit them rather than hide it(balls of steel right there) and rebuild PSN from sractch and it's a free service. That's costumer support right there.

This is true. Perhaps they could sell the PS3 GOTY Edition at a discounted price (the price of the 3+ DLCs combined, provided the total is less than $60 when it's all said and done).

It would be nice to hear from Sony on what their involvement with Bethesda actually is (if any). Some have speculated that Bethesda is lying about their involvement with Sony in order to buy themselves some more time to work on the issues effecting Dawnguard, but if this was the case, Sony would probably open their mouths and call out Bethesda so their name isn't being drug through the dirt too.

Or if they get it to work at a great level Sony just comes in and say they did help even if they didn't. Just a though.

Sony may wait until Bethesda completely makes a fool out of themselves, just to show up with evidence that they were never involved. Thus making Bethesda look even worse in gamers eyes, and hopefully force them to learn how to make a game properly. It'd be entertaining, at least, to watch Bethesda try to explain why they were lying.

They'd risk never being allowed to release a poorly made game on any future Sony consoles. I doubt Sony would allow them to get away with dirtying their name.

Complaining actually makes me feel better, and it puts my thoughts out on the table for a slight, slim chance it'll get noticed.

Just found the article again. Doesn't give any info on what's going on beyond what ppl already know if they have been keeping up. But that its an actual USA Today article and not some backwater paper from bumble-snog, nowhere speaks to how big of a snafu this is getting to be.

Essentially, Bethesda has tapped out saying that they don't have the skill to put Dawnguard on PS3. And that admission has lent some weight to the questions that have been repeatedly asked since this sorry business all began. If they are to be believed now, they have even come to the point that they've had to go to Sony for help at this point. Compound that with the fact that Beth. is STILL actively releasing/crafting other DLC during this whole thing is just adding more fuel to the firestorm.

That's the barebones of where we are at in a paragraph.

Bethesda doesn't know if they will be able to fix Dawnguard. If they can't, there's a good chance the ps3 won't see future dlc.
