PS3 Release for Dawnguard - Thread #25

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 4:47 am

Why? They aren't giving Bethesda money because they don't feel Bethesda is treating their customers right. How can you possibly find that insulting?
He said interesting, not "insulting"

Haha thank you for clearing that up Leydenne

Yes the last word was simply misread. Interesting is a vague word typically, can be either good or bad. But when I use it, typically it means I'm looking up on the situation. Negative things don't "interest" me xD

Pretty much; my group of friends and myself personally tend to see the world of gaming as a kindred community where things like platform fanboyism is petty and insignificant to gaming in general so we support all gamers no matter their preferences. In that light when we see other gamers having to suffer like this we tend to boycott a company until they show equal treatment of all of their costumer base. In truth there is no telling who is next in matters like this.

As a side note it goes a bit father than the fact that the PS3 has not gotten the DLC yet, it also mostly deals with the fact that the PS3 needs an exclusive patch to fix the current issues it suffers from and until the PS3 version is in adequate working order, myself personally will not invest in the DLC. If the issues are abandoned... well I do not think I will invest in games from this company again.

It's nice to see people who think like this honestly.

You're not refusing the product because it doesn't work for you, but you refuse to endorse a company that turns it's back on consumers.
A nice idea.

Maybe because it's a new engine since Oblivion now. Completely overhauled since Fallout:3 enough to call it a new engine? I imagine they are looking or using all resources available to get it working up to and including third party assistance. Though I have no way to state that for sure. Past practice has shown they are willing to do so however since they did so with Oblivion.

I don't know if anyone has responded to this yet, but it's simply not true. You can't find a single review of the Creation Engine that claims it's anything other than a minimally updated Gamebryo Engine.

In fact, most of the game development articles and IGDA postings I've read about it claim that the "Creation Engine" is little more than a marketing term. Which isn't necessary unethical or even "cheap". It's actually pretty brilliant.

Good morning everyone.

I haven't been around since roughly thread #15/16 I think.

I own the PS3 version of this game and, due to my illness, decided that waiting for Bethesda to release the games' DLC would be a wait too long. It's become very apparent that the game should never have been made for the PS3 as they didn't have any intention of coding it properly or passing it over to the same company that handled the Oblivion port. It was about making a quick cash-in with as little work as possible.

I am, very literally, on borrowed time and at 31 years old feel that I've wasted the many many hours that I put into my numerous Skyrim characters that I created.

I AM however happy to say that I've discovered the Mass Effect games for the PS3 and am playing them at home and from my hospital bed. I genuinely found myself talking to my chemo nurse about dragon shouts and Reapers. So funny.

Bethesda, I hope you read this and take it to heart. I played your game as an escape from the news of my condition and I'd like to thank you for giving me that much. I am very upset though to say that you have stolen a great many hours from me due to your lying and misrepresentation of your work on bringing the DLC's to my system. You would of been told b your coding personnel that there were going to be huge problems with bringing the whole thing to the PS3 and that there was little chance of the game running smoothly due to it not being actually coded specifically for Sony's system. Yes, I understand you're a business and I appreciate that you might have felt you'd fix these issues at a later date, but your track record of how you handle games for the PS3 in the past is that of a company that puts in the least amount of care as can be done and after the Oblivion issues where by you had to pass the game off to someone else to get it ported would of screamed at you that you needed to redesign the engine for the PS3. You didn't but what really makes me feel sick is that you didn't come out and still haven't, and told the fans that your game is riddled with flaws and that you wouldn't be devoting any significant time to fixing it. You've kept silent so as to not affect the sales of the game on Sony's console.

You have genuinely taken time away from someone who is already dying and has a limited amount if it left.

I want you to know that I have found a game series that has kept me focused from the pain and sickness in the form of EA's Mass Effect games though, so it's not a total loss.

Should you actually release the DLC's for my PS3 console, I will not buy them, nor will I purchase any further games from yourselves. This includes games just licensed by you as well. It's down to your lying and keeping the truth from us and making us believe something that you yourselves knew was never going to be the case.

I can live with bugged, slightly flawed games. That's acceptable as a game is incredibly complicated, but I can't accept your putting profit and 'grab as much as can be done before it's discoverd' mentality.

I hope for those that are left after me, you will please consider the following and really think about what's right.

Bethesda have had years to get PS3 programmers to build an engine for their games that would work first time. They have had years of mistakes and failings time and time again where the same issues of coding and working with PS3's engine showed them that they couldn't release an acceptable product as is without fixing their way of doing things. They have lied, misled and purposely kept silent about issues that they knew would be crippling to their released game and follow-up DLCs.

They released Skyrim, like its predecessor, knowing they weren't suitable but did so anyway to get as much money in with as little effort as possible. They duped us into believing there would be any DLC for the PS3 and they did it with a straight face.

If I get last the 3 months time frame I'm on then I will return to see if they've told the truth and given full refunds to owners of the game, though its unlikely on all counts.

Bethesda. You have lied to a dying man and did so by keeping silent and by taking as much money as you could.

I will never forgive you for the lost time and the heavily flawed and bugged game release.

Goodbye.

Samuel.

Well I genuinely have to say that I hope your condition can and will improve.
I'm sure it can't be easy and I'm sure the distractions are pretty helpful.

If you have a laptop, or a computer, not necessarily a powerful one, look up Knights of the Old Republic to help with distractions.

The mechanics of the game fit more like a strategy game though. But it's still fun regardless if you're into stories and/or star wars. The game is more focused on decisions you make throughout the story, and influencing others through decisions and seeing how these thing effect the world than the actual fighting. The second one did an even better job of doing all that as well. This is assuming you've never touched it. The graphics are dated, its an older game, so I don't think a computer would need any power to play it lol.

For PS3 there's always infamous for a game with decent story and fun gameplay.

Best of luck to ya Samuel

@SabastianLaputa

I'm truly sorry for your condition, but ...

You have genuinely taken time away from someone who is already dying and has a limited amount if it left.

Bethesda. You have lied to a dying man and did so by keeping silent and by taking as much money as you could.

I will never forgive you for the lost time and the heavily flawed and bugged game release.

... wtf?

Had you been an eight-year old I would have held my tongue. But you're not eight you're thirty-one so;

Bethesda didn't point a gun to your head and "take time away from you". You chose to buy and play Skyrim (which most would agree is an outstanding game by itself) and obviously enjoyed it enough to keep playing it. I fail to see how the lack of DLC detracts from this.

You're dying. That svcks, and I'm sorry. But using your situation as a tool to emotionally manipulate other people (especially someone who has no obligation to you.) is a really crappy thing to do regardless of how sick you are.

its depressing, but it looks like the ps3 version of skyrim really is going to get screwed over... no expansions at all, simply because they didnt get a good handle on the console before designing the game, apparently.

they focused COMPLETELY on the 360, and yet, somehow, despite it being about equal to the ps3, that thing can handle BOTH dawnguard and hearthfire... how? and why?

i personally think, just to keep things fair... if ONE console cant handle the expansions, then NO console should receive the expansions... the way things are now, its like giving christmas presents only to one child, while not giving your other child anything, and force them to watch the other one play with their new toys while outright telling them "you will NEVER receive any gifts, my unfavorite child".

thats honestly how it feels to me... i've supported bethesda for so long, i've stood up for them constantly, but im honestly losing all my hope and faith now.

i guess all i can do is hope i win the lottery a couple times so i can afford a decent enough computer to play skyrim on.

although, i cant help but think this has something to do with microsoft throwing some money around behind the scenes... i just find it hard to believe that the ps3 cant handle these expansions while the 360 has NO problems with them, at all.

hopefully my post wasnt too bad... i wasnt trying to sound "uncivil" at any point, though i suppose i tend to get carried away with my anologies, like the christmas thing... still very tame compared to what i usually say, though.

OMFG the ps magazine is just insulting they sent xbox copies to ps magazine and kept them in the dark when ps magazine was like wtf this an xbox copy were PLAYSTATION magazine. the reviewers had to review it on release and that really took a toll on his review because of this he knew about skylag and kept refrencing game breaking lag

In all honesty, I enjoyed Superman 64 more than Skyrim at this point. Started a new game just for the hell of it and it's already laggy and freezes very often. This game has no replay value, of course that could be my fault due to finishing every single quest first playthrough, but still.

At least Superman 64's bugs were humorous to some extent.

-In regards to the PS Magazine... I'm speechless at both it itself, and the sentence under the title that I assume says "Better than Oblivion."

It's a pity, Dishonored looks neat and I love the design, and I've HEARD that they are involved with D00M somehow, and it breaks my heart to tell myself to stay away from it.

If that is seriously what they put on the blog then it's disgusting, were they trying to be funny? Really?

They are all more detatched from reality than I thought, seems they think the PS3 situation is a big joke and have trolled the entire community.

Good to see our heroes over at Bethesda are hard at work preparing for halloween.

There have been confirmed reports that they burned that poster after the picture. After all, anything that says "Playstation" is not allowed anywhere a Bethesda employee.

sincerly steve042

i think if you paid for the game expecting DLC and havent recieved any you should get a refund for the whole price. Hit bethesda in the pocketbook its the only thing they will understand!
