Sections that ruin good games for you ?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 7:26 am

I recently lent BF3 to a guy I knew, he wasnt impressed by the SP, but said the thing that absolutely made him hate it was the rat QTE, he said it shouldnt have been a QTE.

I just got my hands on Okami, I liked the game. Then they force me to draw circles, in 5 damn seconds that dont even work 98% of the time. It gets better because there are sevaral you must do in a row, or fail and have an unskipable cutscene. I rage quit after one time I got to the second blossom, only to have the game think I drew the sun insted of using the bloom power.

So any gmes you enjoyed that were ruined by minor terrible sections ?

really? the rat QTE ruined BF3?????

please.....

The opening for The Witcher Two turned me off the game for a good long while. Then the QTE got very annoying...at least there was an option for those though...I still have not gotten past that first village you make it too after the jailbreak in the beginning. Idk why. I loved the first game. Just guess it felt incredibly clumsy at first with mouse controls. Told myself I should get an Xbox controller that I can use as a gamepad on my PC. Still don't have one lol.

I recommend Razer Onza...

while it's 2 extra buttons doesn't make it a 12 button gamepad, I find remapping them to "Back" and "Start" quite useful for PC. I have 4 buttons next to each anolog stick, each anolog stick can be clicked, and I have 2 bumpers above my triggers on both sides.

I also find the onza has better tension response on the anolog sticks for better precision and control.

Downsides:
It IS more fragile. It uses mechanical buttons instead of membrane.... so they are more like mouse buttons. Typical button mashing people are used to (putting lots of force into button presses) is not good for the controller. It's best handled with a light touch. It's a precision piece of gaming gear and needs to be treated that way.... NOT for people who throw controllers or can't help but put all their force into the controller

Doesn't matter for PC.... but the rumbling causes a power leak through the mic jack, so every time the controller rumbles you and ppl in your party will hear a weird buzzing sound.... I just turn off vibration when in a party and there is no problem.

Lol I never had any trouble with Okami. Well, the annoying sound effects during the cutscenes made me want to leap out of a window. But yeah, unskippable cutscenes right before a difficult battle is a game ruiner. Lessee what else... There was a boss battle in metroid prime 2 that basically played like pinball and I never got passed it. Hate it when games suddenly require you to play pinball or control rc helicopters. If I wanted to do that then I wouldnt be playing GTA, now would I?

Unskipable cutscenes.

Like Guild Wars only when you are with a party. There were so many times that a cutscene I have seen countless times would not skip because one or two players did not press the 'skip' button.

what's more annoying is when you enter a high level dungeon to grind some levels... and you're running in circles looking for an encounter and... NOTHING! WTF?!?!?

It didn't ruin it, but I never liked the parts in KotOR where you had to wear a diving suit, or a space suit. The underwater levels on Manaan as a whole were awesome though.

Also, I never much liked the old sewer levels in Bloodlines, the ones just before you enter the Nosferatu territory. On my first character I got stuck there and quit, took me a while before I picked it up again. Started from scratch, with a different clan too. :P

The penultimate mission in the Dragon Knight Saga (the Zeppelin escort) svcked pretty badly. Seems most people hated it, and it was a shame to have such an inauspicious ending to such a good game.

It must have been a tough mission - escorting a drunk, stoned rock band while fending off hordes of groupies.

Golly.

Ok True crime streets of LA.
You go through all these great levels, has a system that allows you to progress the story even if you blow it.
What's more that its progression adds to the story, be a bad cop, a good one, a great one.. it was a vastly superior GTA game i every respect.

Then, then, then?? you start fighting demons and pumpkins close to the end of the game???
Shark jumped, no wait shark walks onto land sets up a shop selling knitware, gets rich buys a pent house and then that is jumped over.

DA;2, take DA:O then blow it up, good characters, some nice story. Just a boss battle, whacka npc game, don't bother with anything but damage game.

Oblivion: Finding out I could run the entire main quest with 1647487+ bounty.
That Martin looks really like a git when he hates you, and will attack you often.
That when saving the Imperials all your bounty magically disappears and can lead to broken save.

Baldurs gate SoA... ToB expansion.

Blood bowl, needing to roll anything but a one, then getting a one.
Having entire ogre and vampire count teams crippled with this, constant double ones followed by a re roll of double one.
I hate 1's.

These are the games I've liked..

I hate racing missions. I stopped playing GTA III because of this one racing mission where you basically had to memorize which streets to turn on because the marker only told you which direction the next check point was, but some blocks are longer than others have different shapes so if you turn down the wrong one fall behind the other cars. The other cars were near PERFECT drivers and if you hit another car or did anything that slowed you down for a second they would pass you up.

The save system in Dead Rising aggravated me to no end

This. I freaking love Dead Rising, but wow was that an archaic way to save your game. Why not just save wherever you want? WHY!?!?

Seconded. It just took a little practice to learn the helicopters. Once you get used to the controls, the helicopters fly like a dream.

EDIT: At least on the console version. I can see trying to control them with a keyboard and mouse being pretty awful.

Skyrim's opening sequence and dungeon.
You find me an interesting topic in the first page that I can comment on

Skyrim's start is what nearly ruined it for me but like I've said, I pushed on :toughninja:

Bug Trainers that had a Metapod or Kakuna at a decent level when you're near the beginning of the game.

Metapod used Harden.
Caterpie used Tackle
Repeat x35
Metapod Fainted

Bug Trainer sent out Kakuna
Kakuna used Harden.
Caterpie used Tackle
Repeat x5

Kakuna used Harden
Caterpie used String Shot
Repeat x30
Kakuna used Harden
Caterpie used Struggle

Anything that involves 100's attempts at either:

--jumping type "puzzles" or obstacles
-----especially if they involve figuring out a "safe path" and not figuring out the pattern in 2 seconds=instant death
------------------(I should note that I did love the first two Tombraiders, but the jumping around in those was generally not rage-inducing)

--timers. I don't care what it is, I hate timed/countdown events. 99.9% of the time a cheap, lazy, and boring (or rage-inducing) difficulty "stunt."
