Sections that ruin good games for you ?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 9:12 pm

I recently lent BF3 to a guy I knew, he wasnt impressed by the SP, but said the thing that absolutely made him hate it was the rat QTE, he said it shouldnt have been a QTE.

I just got my hands on Okami, I liked the game. Then they force me to draw circles, in 5 damn seconds that dont even work 98% of the time. It gets better because there are sevaral you must do in a row, or fail and have an unskipable cutscene. I rage quit after one time I got to the second blossom, only to have the game think I drew the sun insted of using the bloom power.

So any gmes you enjoyed that were ruined by minor terrible sections ?

Hm.... I enjoy almost all games, but I can think of a few.

The intro to FO:NV really turns me away from playing it. It bores me to death.

The original Red Faction's vehicle sections really svcked, not enough to turn me off the game, but enough to quit playing for a while.

Tank missions on COD games. Jesus christ, who actually enjoys those?

I liked the Fade, if you wanted to it's a very easy place to get lots of free extra attribute points.

I liked the intro tbh... But still you can skip it, its not forced so its not too bad.

I dont remember tank missions, im assuming it means they were bland as hell. Cant be worse than BF3s jet mission, maybe its because of the atmosphere and I thought "[censored] yes! Jet mission." But it was horrible, give me a tank mission any day.

Also remembered Cortana from halo 3. I enjoy halo 3, but I ALWAYS skip that mission. Its like the devs came together and decided to put as many bad ideas into one level as possible.

Not a specific section but, the Runey system in the game Rune Factory: Frontier. It takes an excellent game, and makes it tedious to the point of unplayable.

Late chapter 1 in FFT didn't ruin the game, but I would have replayed it a LOT more if it didn't flip constantly between different party sizes. Makes keeping a crew all the same level irritating as hell, and not worth playing through. The game gets awesome later on, but I don't want to ever have to grit my teeth to like a game, that's just stupid.

Lets see, any airplane-related mission I am force to take on in GTA: San Andreas (controls for flying is horrid and flying an airplane in the airplane school is downright painful and time consuming) and "The Driver" Mission in GTA: Vice City (a race between a powerful muscle car vs ya in a slow sentinel; the police chase just make it worst).

Nearly any escort mission. And nearly any timed mission. I really wish games developers would get the hang of the idea that most gamers hate them (or at least seem to, based on the feedback I've seen).

It takes less effort to write origins than what you wrote in its place :P

Those who are truly committed to the art of idleness don't object to expending more effort than they would have done on the thing that they're avoiding. It's a deep and ancient philosophy comparable to... oh, I can't be bothered.

Basically. When you hit him. 8 dots shine on him briefly. You have to use the paint brush to mark each of those dots, in order, almost exactly where they showed up on him.

Most people use a recorder and playback the scene so they can tell. And even then it's easy to be off one of the marks by just a little and screw it up.(His pattern changes if you fail)

Missions where you have to defend someone while they do something, or shoot enemies out of a car window whilst someone else drives somewhere.

Saints Row 3 was full of missions like that.

Yes, and it was way too long, but otherwise not that bad.

Really any non-skippable tutorial area is annoying. And I'll echo the complaint about escorts.

Havent played KoToR2, how was it bad ?

lso in dark souls, gravelord nito. He has this attack, a scream warns you, then a spike thats insanely hard to dodge, hits you, sends you flying and causes toxin build up.

I really dislike those stupid side missions in Saints Row 3 were you defend people while hanging of a wall/on a helicopter etc. I see some of you allerady said that aswell.

Gravelord Nito was the easiest Boss fight ever to me lol. He was the last boss I defeated and I was heavily overpowered by that time. I just went mental on him and ignored every obstacle he was making. I think I did a good choice waiting for him as some find him very annoying

Quick-time events; I think the only game I own that has them is crysis 2, they totally made me rage (even though they were not implemented that badly). I'd finish a section and lean back during the cut-scene when some button would flash and wham: took a bus to the face. The QTE at the very end was the worst, left mouse button to move right arm forward, right mouse button to move the left arm (kind of like in skyrim), but apparently you had to move rather fast as I failed that thing 3 times and had to look online to see if I was doing anything wrong.

Another one is bad autosave locations combined with no quicksave/normal save at all times. I tried to do mass effect on the hardest difficulty, it would constantly be like: load > cutscene > bit of dialog > combat > game over > repeat. annoying as hell to constantly go through those cutscenes over and over again, especially when there was some interaction in the form of dialog before the battle.

Time based missions are a big turnoff as well. I'm rather slow and I like to take the time and go in prepared. One game I have (joint task force, an rts) was a decent game and I played through almost all of it.. Until I hit a mission where I was forced to move in quickly because combatants were killing a whole city. Problem was that there would be heavy casualties no matter what. I stopped 2 playthroughs on that mission, the first after seeing I could not penetrate the enemy lines without casualties and the second time because it turned out that once inside the city, the enemy would start artillery attacks, starting another time based mission to take those out.

Complete piece of [censored] menu interfaces make me want to kick a pregnant woman. Skyrim, Oblivion, I'm looking in your directions.

Nonsensical tank controls, like what we see in the Resident Evil games.

Boss rushes. Really, guys? Do we have to fight every single boss in the game again? Are you really that lazy to just come up with something new? Okay, I guess this doesn't ruin all good games for me, as I still enjoyed Okami, Viewtiful Joe, and Devil May Cry 3, but it's still annoying, and a good reason I won't be caught dead ever playing a non-Legends Megaman game ever again.
